  1. HI have an Alienware m17 with a dual boot with parrotsec and windows 10. There were no clear problems before and I just went to turn on my computer just like any other time. For some reason it will not turn on. Anyone have any advice? Edit: My charger seems to be working fine. Also my laptop shows no lights and nothing on screen. It won’t turn on at all. I also looked at some troubleshooting guides online and none have worked so far.
  2. Hi guys, Apologies if this is a bit of a simple question, I've not come across it before and a Google search yielded a lot of irrelevant results. Is there a simple way to tell if a PC was Restarted or Shut Down on it's last power down? As in, tell if the user selected 'Restart' or selected 'Shut Down' within Windows 7? Thank you.
  3. Does anyone know if there is anything simple inside that I could use to tell if WiFi is on or off? I'm looking at situation where I absolutely, positively cannot do any emissions. Was thinking perhaps hooking a small LED indicator. The display LEDs seem to have a mind of their own..
  4. As the title says, I often have to reboot the nano due to power outage or swapping power supplies, this causes me to have to log in again via the web GUI, but this causes a loss of all the Recon data, which is a pain if its been going for >10min. Does anyone know how to keep a persistent log of the recon data so that only a new recon would wipe it? Cheers
  5. So I was reading around and I read that you should use a powered USB hub for the Wifi Pineapple. However, the post I found was in 2012 so I am unsure if this is still needed. I would like to know if I should get a powered USB Hub, or if it even matters with the Wifi Pineapple Nano. If I should, would the item from Amazon okay? Link to 2012 Post: https://forums.hak5.org/index.php?/topic/27549-usb-hub-powered-by-wifi-pineapple/ Link to product: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0192LPK5M/ref=psdc_281413_t2_B00DQFGH80
  6. Hi, So I am testing out how to maximize the power and range of the tetra. I bought 4 wireless power boosters from the hakshop and tried them on all 4 antennas , for some reason, epic failure because I did not notice that the tetra antennas inputs are female and so are the power boosters.... so that does not work. I got 9dbi antennas from atheros .... another epic fail, its as if there are no antennas.. soooooooooo my question is, how to maximize the power on this beast.
  7. I'm new to the Nano, so pls forgive the basic question, but.... do both of the USB plugs that I plug into my PC provide power to the unit? Or does one provide power and the other provide comms, for example? I think it's the former, but I just want to be sure. Thanks!
  8. Hey all I've been playing around with my new USB power meter, and I wanted to run my math past you to see if I am thinking right. Attached are some pictures, but in general, my NANO seems to draw .50 amps or less. Usually its in the .40 range with a dongle plugged into WLAN2. if my math is right, .40 amp converts to 400milliamps. if we take a 15000mAh battery, we would get appx 26 hours of runtime? (15000 / 350 x 0.7* = 26.25) Does this sound about right? The pineapple juice battery is rated at 4000mAh which is good for about 7 hours. Overall I've been shocked at how little the NANO consumes. I have run PineAP, DNSspood, and evilportal with clients connected and it was consuming around .70amps (700 milliamps) I did notice it goes way up depending on the dongle your using for WLAN2 obviously. If my math is wrong let me know!
  9. Hi everyone, I'm the happy owner of a MKV which I use (when I take it out with me) with an Anker Astro E7 USB battery. When I connect the MKV to my home power supply, I'm perfectly able to use my Galaxy S6 as a 4G modem ( using the USB port on the MKV and enabling USB tethering ), but when I'm not home and I try to use the same exact configuration with the battery, the phone simply doesn't detect the USB connection thus doesn't allow me to enable tethering ( basically it's just like the phone's connected to absolutely nothing ). I guess this is due to some power requirements of the phone? Any chance to fix this? I vaguely remember I used tethering with my old phone ( a LG Nexus 5 ) and it worked, so the Galaxy S6 is probably draining more power than the battery is actually able to give? Thanks.
  10. Hi all, How would you go about setting up a stand-alone Raspberry Pi, which would; Be powered by solar, battery, or any other method. At least a few days power, if possible. Have some sort of internet connection available, so one can SSH / NetCat to it. (Dongle?) Be as small and discreet as possible, so it doesn't get stolen. *edit* Think weather monitoring station, but too far away to connect to the same WiFi network as your home PC, and not in range of any free WiFi hotspots.
  11. Newbie so didn't know but someone said not to and that you cant use a battery pack connected to the usb on the pineapple. I have a powergen powerbank used for charging phones etc, the output has 5v/2a I've plugged in the usb in the battery to the usb of the pineapple and it powered it no problem. Will this damage the pineapple then.
  12. Hi there, First Let me say that this is a kick @ss device and still learning it. Thanks Hak5 team for making this lil booger. So I've had this pineapple for about a week now and I've run into a few issues. I'm posting each issue so they can be address individually. So randomly the device will reboot and them turn off and reboot over and over. Once this cycle starts, nothing can stop it other then doing a factory reset with the dip switches, so no logs. This is the third time this has happen and I decided to record the device doing its thing. ( ) You will see me plug it in and start the boot process blinking the blue light. after a good minute the device seems to power cycle and start booting up again. this will continue until I pull the plug.I'm also having issue with a TPlink TL-WN722N but I'll get to that in another post. Any Ideas?
  13. Hey guys, New to the forum, recently purchased a Pineapple and I was hoping to get some advice on batteries. Which of the below would work best with the Pineapple MKV: http://www.amazon.co.uk/6400mAh-Portable-External-Technology-Motorola-Black/dp/B005NFOA0S/ref=sr_1_16?ie=UTF8&qid=1427133901&sr=8-16&keywords=Anker http://www.amazon.co.uk/16000mAh-Portable-External-Technology-Motorola-Black/dp/B00D5T3QK4/ref=sr_1_4?s=telephone&ie=UTF8&qid=1427134169&sr=1-4&keywords=Anker http://www.amazon.co.uk/10000mAh-Portable-PowerIQTM-Technology-USB-charged-Black/dp/B0063AAIRG/ref=sr_1_9?s=telephone&ie=UTF8&qid=1427134169&sr=1-9&keywords=Anker I'm also going to get this cable with it as I've read it's not wise to use USB to USB: http://www.amazon.co.uk/StarTech-Type-Barrel-Power-Cable/dp/B009JXJITS/ref=pd_sim_computers_1?ie=UTF8&refRID=0FYPV9KN9CW1DR9YTB4N Please note I have gone through other threads on this forum in regards to this and the batteries recommended are either no longer available or not sold in the UK. Feel free to recommend anything else besdies the above. Thanks in advance.
  14. Hello! I have recently bought the basic version of the MK5 Wifi Pineapple. I'm new to The Pineapple and am having some confusion. The Wifi Pineapple works great when plugged into the PSU that came in the kit. When I try to use any other cable and wall adapter the green L.E.D. is dimly lit and it seems to not be getting enough power. I am using an iPad wall adapter and the output is 10w (5v * 2a). I run into the same issue with using a power bank, which is also 10w (5v * 2a port): USB cable and power bank: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MRD3UE6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00304DZ7I/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!
  15. Hey all! Ok so I've come up with a crazy contraption concept that I'm getting ready to try and solder together. Wanted to colaboate with you all. I'm not sure if this exists: But I'm wanting to make a tiny little circuit the size of ones Thumb that basically enables constant circuit from a USB Pineapple Juice, then when you get home and notice your Pineapple Juice is almost dead, plug in the Mark V wall adapter and flip a switch to switch from USB Battery to the Wall AC outlet. Basically a constant flow from ether a DC or AC power source to have your Pineapple. I know it's intense voltage regulation, but I wanted to post this into the wild and see if anyone experienced can chime in on if this is completely doable or I'm just a dope and shouldn't bother.
  16. Hi , i bought two sets of pineapples , one for me and the other for a friend. We got the elite package because we expected all the hardware would work well together. But we have both found that when using the Pineapple with the juice battery pack there isn't enough power to keep the SanDisk USB working. After looking around on the forums we have found many people complaining about this and recommending the Anker instead. If i had known there was a problem I would have just bought the basic unit and put the extra towards an Anker.
  17. After reflashing my ap121u a few times, I bricked it pretty good. I connected my handy serial cable (yes, I left the power line off) and repaired the firmware. Not sure what I did wrong next, but after I replaced the 5v power line from my usb port with the 12v power brick (standard one that ships with the Mark IV) the unit won't power up. No lights turn on. When the power line is disconnected, all LEDs flash for a millisecond. The unit does not boot up, the unit shows nothing on the serial port. I'm certain I blew an IC somewhere on the board, but no idea which one. Any suggestions which IC I need to replace to fix the power issue? Thx.
  18. Hey all, I got the 9 dBi pole antenna from the hak shop and my question is whether i need to do anything other than substitute the new antenna on a device. Specifically do i need to set power options to optimize signal etc? The reason I ask is that i dont notice a significant increase in the area that I can observe traffic say with an external wireless card in monitor mode or something. Thanks, -SM
  19. I'm just wondering why a device expecting 12v is routinely being ran from a 5v supply? Is this a good idea? What does that do to the hardware? Has anyone noticed weird things happening while running on 5v opposed to 12v? How does this effect wireless power/range? I run mine from a 12v battery pack but they are much less common, just curious about this.
  20. I was recently given a USB battery (it can power the raspberry pi or arduino) from a friend who thought I can use it more than him and I found the usb to barrel wire on amazon. Before I plug it into the Pineapple I just wanted to check with some smarter people than me so I don't damage it(I suck with all matters electricity). The battery outputs 5V at 1A is this ok to power the pineapple mark IV? (If you need more info on the battery its on amazon http://www.amazon.com/PowerGen-External-Blackberry-Sensation-Thunderbolt/dp/B005VBNYDS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1363982136&sr=8-1&keywords=power+gen+5200 ) Also I don't want to pollute the board with my dumb power questions so I'll ask it here, I just a found a few wallplugs that fit and don't remember what one is for the pineapple so what is the power output volts and current they are all different?
  21. Anker Astro3 10 000mAh 5V/9V/12V or Catclaw 5V/9V/12V mAh depends on capacity Annd, does Anker Astro 3 have 10 000mAh at 9V capacity?
  22. it appears to be a kickstarter for a solar powered phone/tablet recharger. is it too small/not powerful enough? or something to kick around as a possible idea http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/wakawakalight/wakawaka-power-the-best-compact-solar-power-statio
  23. Hi guys i was trying to change the txpower on an external alfa wireless card (to get a better transmittion) via ssh on the pineapple but was not able to do so, has anybody tried to change it? the commands i run are iw reg set BO < this command runs fine > iwconfig wlan1 txpower 30 < here i get the following error > Error for wireless request "Set Tx Power" (8B26) : SET failed on device wlan1 ; invalid argument. maybe i should have a look on the openwrt forum but figured id ask on here also..
  24. Very disappointed to report my brand new Mk IV just released its magic smoke and is dead. I used a PoE Adaptor (working fine on my Cisco 7940) into the PoE port and within seconds there was a "crack" and a puff of smoke. It had previpusly been working perfectly via the power connector. I opened the box hoping it was a simple diode or cap - but unfortunately it destroyed a small IC. So it's now in the bin. 8-( Super-disappointed as I didn't do anything cowboyish. Please be very careful if you're looking to use PoE. If you're like me, you can't afford to just go and buy another one. 8( Cheers, Jason
