  1. I don't post a rebuttal in every one of my posts (oh, the irony!). It's all part of my curmudgeonly affectation really... I just can't stop affecting it. I'm not really sure what you are asking about what I'm really trying to say; there was no intended subtext in my previous post.
  2. Yes, that bug was fixed in 2005, what version of PHP is this server running?
  3. I don't really like the idea of a collective name for us, and I think all of the suggestions so far are pretty awful anyway. Also, not WOG please. Edit: Also are people forgetting Hackling was only a post rank for newish posters? There are really 2 different discussions going on here.
  4. I approve of changing The Projects to The Labs, the current name sounds like those boards are occupied by The Wire-esque drug dealers.

    Windows Crash

Well since Microsoft lists one of the causes at that URL I posted several days ago as: "The file system is damaged and cannot be mounted.", I'd say yes.
  6. I'm fairly certain Japanese is Japanisch, and I don't think that's the correct translation of "a very little bit" either.
  7. Or perhaps he was congratulating Comcast on buying something, as in "good buy, Comcast".

    cat cam?

I have seen part of it, and it's an absolutely awful movie.
  9. It resolves to the correct IP, it's not a DNS error.
  10. Well, there might be if he was actually in DBZ.

    Gabbly.com

Well in that case you're right, but if it doesn't actually look at the traffic I wouldn't call it filtering.
  12. Well, technically it's illegal, but pretty much all Linux/BSD DVD playing software (I doubt stuff on OS X does, though) uses a variation of it or a brute force attack, so you don't really need to compile it yourself.

    Windows Crash

Yes, well it's possible running chkdsk /r as that Microsoft support pages says to might fix the volume.

    Windows Crash

If it was a damaged MBR I don't think it would even get as far as attempting to mount the boot volume.

    Gabbly.com

You're wrong. Stuff in iframes is retrieved with a separate request and it will still be blocked, it makes no difference.
  16. I'm a bit confused by that comment (especially the part about masturbation). They've been doing this for years, in fact the exact same thing happened with DeCSS which others have alluded to or explicitly pointed out. They don't seem to realise attempting to suppress something on the Internet tends to make it appear in more places as freedom of speech advocates mirror it.
  17. Yes, it would be a big improvement if each individual post had its own rating in addition to the overall user rating.
  18. You know lithium ion batteries (which all modern laptop batteries are) don't have a memory effect, right? Their battery life in fact constantly deteriorates regardless of if you even use them or charge them.
  19. I think maybe mods/admins are getting disproportionately plus-voted compared to how often they say or do something good. Not that I'm jealous with my measly +2/-1, oh no. Edit: For example, moonlit (I don't have anything against moonlit, I tend to agree with his posts most of the time, but that's not the point) has made a total of 9 post since the switch to this forum 8 days ago, with an average of 14 words per post, and yet has gained a +7/-0 rating.

    Gabbly.com

Yeah, that won't work, Gabbly doesn't act like a proxy, it just puts the site in an iframe.
  21. What do you mean? VNC has can do reverse connections. So can SSH.

    over the internet

He couldn't get any useful info from that really though, like session IDs or anything. In what situation would you want to just check if someone had been to a webpage?
