Everybody GYPO! Um... wait, don't!

So "leet speak" was created to communicate covertly? Yeah right...

I do remember friends saying that they did it since the police wouldn't be able to understand them. But this was in the good old days of BBSes and hacking the local video store's computer system to give you free rentals. I thought it was as stupid then as it is now since it was so obvious.

Well either way it's not like it's used like that nowadays.

l33t was created to get around content filters on irc back in the day. Ie on a channel that banned the use of the word "porn", you could talk about "pron".

Every time I see this clip, I can kinda understand that the parents are worried, and yes parents should keep an eye on what there kids are doing online. But the FUD that the news company is spreading undermines there effort to a large degree.

I use leet from time to time as a joke. I don't know anyone who takes it seriously.

Apparently you don't know about the 1337 group of hackers that used to roam the user-created rooms on Yahoo Messenger then.... Many of them used 1337 speek.... or the ones that use it now in the rooms on Yahoo (which now records IP Addresses). They could probably like... you know, crack pr0n sites and stuff... becasue they're hardcore like that.

*stresses that the entire above paragraph was written as a joke and I don't deserve the banning I normally would for writing it as a serious post*
