Can someone tell me how to preform a dos attack in detail,toolz n such. :P

If you are running Windows XP, your in luck. There is a tool built in to test DoS attacks on the network.

Open Notepad, enter the following

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\i8042prt\Parameters]
"PollingIterations"=dword:00002ee0
"PollingIterationsMaximum"=dword:00002ee0
"ResendIterations"=dword:00000003
"LayerDriver JPN"="kbd101.dll"
"LayerDriver KOR"="kbd101a.dll"
"CrashOnCtrlScroll"=dword:00000001

Or right click, save this link: http://www.twistedpairrecords.com/digip/DoS.reg

Save the file as DoS.reg and double click it to unlock the program. Then reboot. Login, and hold down the right most control key and click the Scroll Lock key twice to launch the test program. Enter the IP address or site name into the box that comes up. Good luck!

On large networks try the below.

ping ***.***.***.255

or

ping ***.***.***.*** -l 65535 -n NUMBER OF PACKETS

Note: windows wont allow you to do this anymore, you will need a third party app to send packets of that 65535 size but I am guessing thats what digip's regediting fixes. Thanks digi I shall check that out.

Finally: DONT BE A TWAT!

P.S: We covered DoS very briefly in my security class and I have to say it was interesting stuff, oh if any of you have some good links on the subject for further reading I would be most interested.

I just searched on google dos. The first thing that came up was how to do it. Everyone is being like this because stop being lazy and at least google it. Just saying how to do it with no effort is going to get you no where.

cheers,

Destro
