Matir
What do you all like to listen to while you're working on your latest hack/mod/code/whatever? I'm looking for some new music, maybe something electronic or alternative... Indie artists are particularly nice.

armadaender
Good hacking music = anything that you like. Doesn't matter if it's a pulse-driven techno, acoustic-strumming country or a screaming-riff rock-out song. Music is music.
Darren Kitchen
I know I've posted a majority of my collection in an older thread, but I'll bite again. Off the top of my head in no particular order I'd say: The Killers, The Postal Service, Mono, Dido, Morcheeba, Fischerspooner, Jem, Air, Hooverphonic, Olive, Lamb, Massive Attack, Imogen Heap, Autour de Lucie, Frou Frou, BT, Bjork, Gus Gus, Blue States, Superior, Thievery Corporation, Everything but the girl, Poe, Portishead, and The Shins. That's all that I can think of off the top of my head. It's all good stuff.

mcvoid
Hatebreed always gets me going. With all the call-and-response they do it's like a hardcore punk singalong. They rocked at this year's ozzfest, too. Pantera's a classic - but sometimes i get too much headbanging going on that I get distracted from my hacks. My own stuff, too. I've been in and out of bands lately, but they've all had two things in common: They were all loud and obnoxious. The way music is meant to be. There's a lot I like to listen to other than hardcore/metal - Ska, trance, blues, even some Scott Joplin or some bagpipes (look up the Tartan Terrors some time - makes "Scotland the Brave" and "Amazing Grace" look like child's play), but when I'm getting my hack on, nothing softer than ear-splitting loud will do. Matir
My next question is: anyone know of a legitimate way for Linux user to obtain music? iTMS and the like are out becuase they are not Linux friendly... It doesn't HAVE to be open source, but it does have to be workable on Linux. ;)

mcvoid
Weird Al's a musical genius in my book, but I get distracted when I listen to him while I'm trying to hack. I alsways end up singing along. Especially the Pancreas song from the new album. "Insulin, glucagon, coming from those islets of langerhaans..." cooper
Well, you can see what I listen to on my Last.FM page, as detailed below in my signature. Half of the stuff I'm not aware of that I have it. I've got a 130gig collection of metal MP3's, neatly organised and all encoded at 192kb/s. 2000+ CDs, 22000+ tracks. I just set it to random play and only check what the player reads when something really good flies across the speaker. At work, I tend to listen to all sorts of fast metal, preferably with catchy guitar riffs and strong rythmic sections, combined with some brutal death and a bit of goth to make sure I don't grow tired of it. Here's a few bands that I really enjoy: Dimmu Borgir Crasle Of Filth Buchenwald Oven Walls Of Jericho XXX Maniak Serenade Of Darkness Horse The Band The Red Chord In Flames Autumn In Extremo (these guys are *AWESOME* and actually pretty mainstream) Opeth (just don't listen to the last one) The Old Dead Tree (just don't listen to the last one) Nemesea Nemesis (the singer owes me 10 euros) Strapping Young Lad Exodus Vader Textures Meshuggah Prostitute Disfigurement Poison The Well Otep Leng Tch'E Gojira Autumnal Reaper Between The Buried And Me Bishop Of Hexen Vital Remains Volbeat Ensiferum Northener Spawn Of Possession Gonna go see Thyne Eyes Bleed, Children Of Bodom, In Flames and Slayer this coming friday. Should be fun.
