  1. It's not a question of whether or not you're paranoid, it's if your paranoid ENOUGH.
  2. Very nice Tom! I am looking forward to seeing how the machine will run with XP.
  3. I just have to ask, what was the point? I've never heard of the show, so I'm not sure what the premise is. Did they really think that something would NOT happen, I mean c'mon, it's Alabama. Sorry for my ignorance if it's obvious, just curious.
  4. The guys over at Binrev actually have (or had, I dunno) a show just for user submitted content. Problem is, people stopped submitting if I remember correctly.
  5. Thanks for this, I am trying to talk my boss into letting me go now. :-)
  6. I am dual booting with XP now, I am pretty close to letting Vista go till SP1. It's just so damn pretty. Who knows, after a few months in the wild and some patches, it may be all good. My biggest complaint is still the fact that it won't work with Samba.
  7. I wonder if Droops will be bringing his wife .
  8. Congratulations to you, becoming a Dad has been one of the best things that has ever happened to me. I was a few years older than you when my son was born and he can run the old man down pretty fast :D . Be in the room when she is born, it will change your life.
  9. That's what I used when my box was soft-modded, I love it. One day I need to look into popping a bigger hard drive in. It still amazes me that 120GB drive fills up so fast.
  10. I'm going to have to play my resurrect a dead thread card rather than start a new one. I am fighting to get more centralized management going on the network at work. The problem that I have here is that I have no experience using WMI and very very limited GPO and vb scripting experience, by limited I should say worthless. I have been told that there will be very little money spent on any type of management software so if it more than a couple hundred bucks I am screwed. The point that I am trying to get to here is, what is a good resource to start using WMI? Let me reiterate that I have never used it before and would not know it if it walked up and kicked me in the coin purse. I need something to help me start from the ground up. If it helps at all I am looking at about 30 to 40 workstations all running XP at 2 sites connected via VPN on Sonicwall TZ170's. I have 3 servers 2 2000 servers doing AD duty and 1 2003 file server. Any information here would be much appreciated!
  11. Thanks for the links kickarse! Samba being able to access my shares was going to be a definite deal breaker as far as switching to Vista was concerned, I will try the fix when I get home tonight. Either way I need to get motivated and get the stuff off my PC and onto something the whole network can use.........
  12. I pulled down ultimate (64 bit version) when it was released to MSDN, I dual boot it now (with XP). It's okay, I did notice that when I installed WoW it was noticeably faster than when I installed it on XP. I have all the Aero Glass stuff turned on and it runs smooth for me. I am still trying to find ways to tweak certain things, a lot of things that I know how to get to in XP are either harder to get to or I haven't found them yet. It annoys the hell out of me when it asks you for permission to run certain programs, but doesn't ask for a root password. It still defaults to admin user rather than creating a root user and then creating an "everyday use" account. Other little things that I can't think of right off the top of my head that are mostly issues with getting used to it. I still haven't made the decision as to when and if I am going to switch to it. I guess technically I have since I have forced myself to do everything in it but my trusty XP (stop laughing) is still there. Oh yeah, I just remembered, somebody broke Samba. I stream stuff off my machine to my XBox and it stopped working when I installed Vista. I figured that I just needed to get off my lazy ass and set up a user (rather than using the guest account, I'm a bad boy) No matter what settings I used or security tweaks I tried I could not get access. I jumped on Google and found several forums of people with the same issue, turns out that Vista doesn't work with Samba. I sure hope someone gets this fixed soon because I can see a lot of people with NAS devices getting seriously pissed off when they suddenly can't get access. If I think of anything else I'll probably think about posting it and then forget. By-product of getting old.
  13. Well when my boss calls in sick and I have finished all the projects that I have for the week, things like this start to float through my head. I was more curious than worried, in fact I would say that my worry level was zero. Thanks for the information howr, I'll look into that.
