  4. Comparisons like this are all well and good, but they do ignore the fact that if you use win2k3 you are locked in to microsoft tech. The licensing is insane and i'm sure it won't be long before they start charging for updates. I use win2k, win2k3 and apache daily at work. If you are stuck with using IIS, i'd just stick with win2k and be done with it. You have to tweak it like a mo fo though... "mmc /s" is your friend :)

  11. talking about identifying a file. An interesting aside: I actually tried to do this a while back, found it quite difficult. I'm talking about identifying a file (*not* by its extension). It's quite difficult, there is a program that runs on UNIX/UNIX-LIKE platforms does it though, 'file'. I have a feeling it does something like reading the first few bytes or so. It's one of those thing where one would think it would be quite easy to do..but when you think about it.. must check the source code of that program. first post in a while

  14. Not sure I would class the 'pay-as-you-go' cult of Scientology with any of the abrahamic religions. The founder of the cult, El Ron, created this thing to make money. Yes, various sects of the abrahamic religions have been very cult-like- demanding money for salvation, advocating violence against anyone who critisises them etc.. But these problems are generally bastardisations of the main creed. With Scientology this does not seem to be the case. In order to be 'saved' or be free of those pesky theatons one has to give thousands of pounds.... but meh, it's not as if anyone important is part of this cult. :) ps. saw the irc 'debate'. The level of it was not my cup of tea :)
  15. Ive seen the southpark program and read a little about them. I just thought they were a joke, a bit of a celebrity fad. But after this program.. I think they are nuts! Following, digging up dirt on the journos, the fanaticism of the members... what a crazy cult. Anyone else see it? Thoughts? edit mcEdit: Watch it here- http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/programmes/panorama/default.stm

  18. If the path name is to a file or folder one just has to check whether it exists. So using the -x or -e, i forget, should do it.
