  3. Steveo , found these on Remote Exploits forums: http://forums.remote-exploit.org/backtrack...ktrack-usb.html http://forums.remote-exploit.org/tutorials...lash-drive.html if you want to put it on multi linux boot drive then grab billix and open the readme file in a wordpress and follow the instructions
  4. http://sourceforge.net/projects/billix/ If you can follow a readme and a use a notepad you can get this to work for you. Post here if you need any help.-
  5. 1x Leatherman Skelatool 1x Thinkpad T61 running ubuntu with XP and OSX vm 1x SL-C3000 Zaurus 6ft ethernet ethernet cord 2-3x 4GB usb sticks 1x 60GB ipod 1x notepad 1x sharpe 1x V5 pen 1x la fonera <- running karma and openwrt snacks and a couple beverages
  6. Linux System Administrator/ Web Programmer / DBA (offical title = IT/Marketing Associate) I have a degree in computer engineering. I got the job due to a lot of experience. If you want to work in IT I think a good place to start is to get basic desktop support down. If you don't know how to do that then why do you want to be in IT again? If you do then teach a class at your local community center for pay or for free to build cred. Also post flyers around your neighborhood and on bulletin boards around your area listing your skills and what you can do for them and steeply undercut the local repair shops. Get an LLC and you can say you owned your own company on your resume, looks great.
  7. I just wanted to tell everyone about Penguicon. It's a scifi and open source convention rolled into one. I have gone several times and it's awesome and you'll most likely not get any sleep or very little. It's May 1st-3rd in Romulus, MI in the Crowne Plaza hotel as it's now gotten so big that we need a new hotel to take over. - There are several talks covering a gauntlet of topics that can peak everyone's interest. - If your a Gamer we have a LAN room open 24x7 - Learn about open source software and programming - take part in hardware challenges such as the junkpile wars or anything but ethernet - Watch anime 24x7 - take part in masquerade - if your an experienced programmer or hacker take part in code sprint or start up your own talk. - Loads more and like any con your sure to learn a thing or two and have a great time. http://www.penguicon.org/ Maybe we can convince the hak5 crew to show up give a talk to two and have a meetup. Hope to see you there
  8. I have been a big fan of the Windows ultimate boot disk project. Currently you have both the live windows os and knoppix on a DVD or put it on a USB. I am pretty sure you could get any live distro to work if you didn't want knoppix. It seems to have been built off of BartsPE. Do really remember has been a couple months since I made mine. linky: http://www.ubcd4win.com/ you need to supply your own windows source and key so you can be legit if you want.
  9. I say go with a Thinkpad t61 (once you go black you never go back). I am pretty sure they are <$1000 last time I looked they were $700ish. I say spec the processor, graphics card, and screen how you like and go for the cheapest setting for the ram and HDD. Go to Newegg.com and buy your RAM and HDD requirements. This way you have an extra HDD and can sell the RAM. Thinkpads are solid machines and the case design is top notch, it will last a long time even if you treat it like crap. I had a A31p through college and then some. I had it for about 6 years and then gave it a new home. The majority of my developer and sys admin friends use thinkpads and love them.
  10. Console: PS3 (40 GB) Wii Xbox PS2 Gaming PC: ASUS A8N-E 2.8 Ghz Pentium D 2 GB RAM 3 x 400 GB HDD RAID 0 needs new graphics card yellow machine NAS 4 x 250 GB HDD RAID 5 laptop thinkpad t61 2 GB RAM core 2 dual ~ 2.7 GHz running ubuntu hardy
  11. I know that. I actually have it backing up to the NAS but wanted to see if there was a workaround. I have tried if conditions and it doesn't help. I think its a no go. Well that data backup works anyway.
  12. here is the plan copy all .doc on system to My documents expect the ones already in My documents. Just try and figure that out without get an error
  13. In movies there is rarley ever any really os usage or apps. The one time I saw something that wasn't complete bullshit was a unix prompt in anti-trust.
  14. I am pretty sure hamachi uses a ssh tunnel. so you could try sftp. get winscp.
