  1. Here's a question, how fast is the fiber connection going to be?
  2. Which codecs? I'll try it out for you, I've installed quite a few additions to my laptop with no ill effects yet. Kali is Offensive Security's version of Debian. Installing normal applications shouldn't break anything anymore like it did in Backtrack, which was a hacked together version of Ubuntu(I know, it's Debian too).
  3. Heh, I used to keep os9 installed on a usb thumb drive when I supported a school district.
  4. Usually they just set up as a standard nic.
  5. If Mr-Protocol says "soon" then yes. Version 3 os will be out first though, most likely.
  6. Download them all browser plugin might do it.
  7. Have fun guys! Don't forget the 3.2.1 rule!
  8. Heh, my instructor got pissed at me when I turned in my books for sec+. Still had the shrink wrap on them! My old job paid to get my certs as part of my severance package. Certs really help get past HR for job interviews. I'm bummed out that after 4 years Apple finally realized I don't work for a self service provider and won't let me reup my certs with them. So now I only carry a+, sec+, and ccent. Congrats on the new cert!
  9. I run Kali on my work laptop with a normal user. You get all the root menus. The biggest pain in the ass is changing out the lock screen background and login background.
  10. Yea, it's the first part of the howto the op is using. I'm still in the boat that Apple's internet connection sharing is too screwed up to use for the pineapple.
  11. The one that supports all the hardware on your host machine. After that it really doesn't matter.
  12. If you followed the first part to a T then your pineapple's address is now 192.168.2.254, so you should try going to 192.168.2.254:1471.
  13. USB stick model and size please.
  14. This is less hacky... http://fabhax.com/technology/change-wallpapers-in-gnome-3.4/
  15. My current work laptop is a Dell 6410 running Kali locally with full disk encryption and I have it's original windows install vm'd inside that. Works just fine. Haven't tried running more than one vm at a time with it yet though. Had a coworker's laptop walk on him so that's why I'm running linux as my main os with full disk encryption, that and I'm lazy and didn't want to have to compile a bunch of stuff. Pretty sure any newer i5 or better laptop will run a couple vm's just fine.
  16. Copy whatever image you want to use to /usr/share/images/desktop-base/ It has to be a png, I think. rename login-background.png to old-login-background.png, and rename your image.png to login-background.png Taa-Daa! Still working on the lock screen image...
  17. If you can get the access points on the roof, you shouldn't really need directionals for these distances. I connect to my home access point from inside my barn, and that's 80 to 100 feet away. The metal sides of your buildings is what's killing your signal. If I were to set them up, I'd get some wrt54gl's from a local store, then order a few of these. Set them up as wireless bridges and run the cat5 to your internal wireless or wired network.
  18. They locate with multiple ssid's. If they see more than three ssid's and one is way off location from the other two, they ignore the third. They'll update the new location the next time they discover it in it's new location. I'm pretty sure they buy that data as well as collect it on their own. There's no way they can do it all by themselves. I know on sites like wigle, I've got ssid's I've first discovered in states and countries I've never lived in, or been to. Living next to two military bases have them going all over the world. The next time a wardriver uploads his/her data to wigle the access point gets moved, but I still get the credit for it since I discovered that mac address first.
  19. No, it's not. U.FL has a pin in the center. These are usually used as test connectors at the factory. You'll see them inside mobile phones as well. They're not made for a permanent connection, just something for the robot(or underpaid asian kid) to connect to, while testing rf output. http://www.hirose.co.jp/cataloge_hp/e35801678.pdf
  20. Ah! I missed that part. My bad... :-)
  21. With what I'm talking about the /boot partition isn't encrypted, everything else is. Grub has the ability to mount encrypted file systems if it has the key/password. You can also tell it to use a file, which can be anything really. I've used randomly generated text files, to a picture of princess leia in her jabba slave bikini. If you wanted to get real fancy, you could use a file on your phone and as long as it's plugged in while booting, it will work. Pretty sure you can remove the drive once the computer is booted, never tried though.
  22. Get yourself one of these. Will allow you to just dump iso files onto it and then the computer you plug it into sees it as an external usb cdrom drive! Here's what's currently on mine. 23. Dmcrypt luks is an install option. That's what I use. If you really want to have fun with it, you can configure a boot file and point it to a thumb drive. If the drive is inserted before boot it will just boot, no questions asked. No drive, not boot!
