  1. That must be more than a terabyte, I have a terabyte and I only have 5 disks.
  2. That's a lot of disks.
  3. Or provide some information when trying to get help, instead of assuming everyone psychically knows what the problem is.
  4. No it isn't just you, Bittorrent doesn't actually let anyone download anything nor was it designed to. It's just a big joke everyone is participating in to make you look silly by believing that it's possible to download stuff with it.
  5. In G.142 if I'm not mistaken.
  6. Well I wasn't originally going to say lazy, I was going to say shitty, but I thought that sounded too harsh. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Abene Edit: What was the point in that edit?
  7. That isn't a real person. I wondered if you were a Iain Banks reader or a T.S. Elliot fan.
  8. Well I saw a documentary on TV a few days ago about people who are litterally addicted to food, so that could be one reason. There was one guy who ate so much who could no longer walk to the bathroom and had to wear a nappy (diaper for Americans). For a lot of people eating is a way of dealing with life, in the same way some people use drugs or alcohol (alcohol's not a drug, it's a drink!).
  9. You're not really Phiber Optik, are you (that is Mark Abene)? Stealing someone else's name is a bit lazy.

Yeah, I'd just like ot point out when you say "what's the best language to learn to be a hacker?" it's kind of hard to answer. To start with hacking is such a general term with several different meanings, and really each of those meanings still have no definite answer.
  11. Well I think there is a difference, but it's obviously the wrong way to go about it. I think intent is an issue here. Obviously the correct way to go about it is:

A script kiddie is a derogatory term for someone who doesn't really have any technical knowledge but just uses programs or scripts downloaded from the net to take advantage of exploits. GIMP is alright' date=' but I would say a bit harder to use and doesn't really match up to Photoshop in features yet. Unfortately there isn't really much as far as I know that is particularly cheap. There are some laptops designed with gaming in mind, but they won't get the performance of a proper PC built for the task. Issues like heat are a serious limiting factor in laptop deisgn which means you can't use the same level of graphics cards, etc. I don't really know much about specific brands and models of gaming laptops so I'll leave that to someone else. Yes
  13. The fact is he broke the law. If you don't agree with a law you don't get to just choose to ignore it. There is a process of appeals where, once convicted, he can appeal to the US Supreme Court if he wants to and then they'll decide if the law is constitutional. But the fact is that, when he broke into the systems, it was against the law and he should therefore be convicted. Ben Did you read the rest of my post? I never said he shouldn't be convicted, my post was about sentencing for this kind of case often being too severe. If someone was sentenced to being trampled to death by horses for speeding would you say "The fact is they broke the law"?
  14. I does scare me and that's another reason this country is crap. Also when was the last time the UK, or any other country for that matter successfully extradited a US citizen to their country for prosecution?
  15. Yep, I know what you mean - I've never taken either but from what I know it is easier to get addicted to those drugs (although at least you can't die from cocaine withdrawal). Of course that may be somewhat overexaggerated by the media, government, etc. I agee with you about hemp. Weed's a pretty safe drug. Alcohol and tobacco are certainly not on the list of drugs I would legalise if I was to legalise 2 drugs, I would legalise weed and magic mushrooms, far safer and don't cause physical dependence.
  16. Well yes, he broke the law, but he didn't really actually do anything evil did he? I mean he didn't cause any damage or anything. I'm sure we all know if he's found guilty in the US he's sure to get a ridiculous punishment. Some people say nonsensical things like "if you can't do the time don't do the crime", but the time has to be proportional to the severity of the crime and it usually isn't in cases like this.

    smtp server

Well if you are only sending email to yourself can't you just run your own SMTP server?
  18. Erm, alcohol is physically addictive. In fact you can die from alcohol withdrawal. It's far worse that a lot of other drugs, but people don't think of it like that because it's legal.
  19. AVI is a container format and MPEG4 is a compression format. It's not really good in any way except there is a widespread ability to play AVI files (since it's a Microsoft format their applications can understand them). If you want a more advanced container that can have multiple audio streams and subtitles you could use Ogg or Matroska. Matroska also supports menus like on DVDs. Using an MPEG4 implimentation is probably good advice, I use XviD but there are others. Ripping DVDs, not sure, I use mencoder, but since you didn't research this yourself and asked on a forum instead (I'm not downing you for that or anything, I'm just guessing you want somthing that's simple to use) I recommend something with a GUI.
  20. I wish I lived in Alaska.
  21. Well certain manufacturers really are crap. Packard Bell for one. Edit: Also PC World are crap, my friend bought a PC from them on the assurance that it had an AGP 8x slot (since he already had an AGP GFX card he wanted to use) I open up the case to install the card for him, and what do I see there? A PCI Express slot.
  22. Oh. That's what I would have assumed it must have meant, but since you made a point about asking Darren if he knew what it meant I thought it must be more interesting than that.
  23. There are plenty of other countries where they speak English: NZ, Oz, ROI, Canada, South Africa. Of course those aren't all great places to live either, but I would go with NZ or Canada or somewhere before England (or anywhere else in the UK). I don't know anything about New Zealand but I haven't heard about them doing anything bad like starting wars so they can't be that bad. Why not England? Well it's just crap. That TIA database they are building under the guide of ID cards is one reason. Ridiculous anti-terror laws. No freedom of speech. So much apathy and stupidity (of course every country has apathy, but in other places people care a lot more about privacy). Wishful thinking I think. What do you even mean by that? How will they go about bringing the economy to a stand still?
  24. If you are directly connected then that will work, but I would have thought AIM wouldn't use a direct connection (I don't know for sure since I don't use it). Maybe it would if you are transferring a file to or from them.
  25. What exactly do you want to do? Create an admin account on a server you don't already have an admin account (or an account that gives you the privilege that allows you to do that) on? Not taking into account any exploits you might be able to use you aren't going to be able to do that (and I can't imagine the kind of confused thinking that would lead anyone to think that is possible). Are you asking about any exploits that might allow you to create an admin account? Also what is the point in that poll?
