  1. Fuck me, IN SHORT DUKE A SHIT STORM! I swear to god what is up with Aussie weather these days, Melbourne is in drought with massive bush fires and the hot top end is flooded out. Not to mention us melb folk copped a 4.5 earth quake the other night, which freaked me the fuck out. Damn dude hopefully it doesn't head your way, you gonna stick a round or GTFO?

Nice Find MAC, its interesting to see the other work arounds you guys are slapping together. I will have to check out your method when I am back at school on Tuesday. Cheers for the post.
  3. In all honesty don't bother with ubuntu, you are only going to have to update your repo's and apt-get all the required programs. I would just get myself a copy of Backtrack which will cover your WEP cracking needs and then some. Bash can be a bit of a sod at first but I learnt alot of nix cli through learning how to use Back track (I am still a n00b though). In anycase use the tutorial I posted some time ago on WEP cracking. It was written from a beginner learning/explaining it point of view and should give you everything you need to know. Linkage to my Tut
  4. Well my understand is pretty much the same as yours however some work at a layer 3 level and are able to do routing much faster than a router can seeing as it just forward the packets. LOL yeah its a pretty big ass switch but I like the modular factor and the x3 PSU options among other things (not sure if it operates on the 3rd layer though but I am pretty sure the 4500+ series do). 6u is a resonable size for a SOHO setup, I swear I cant get over the price you guys pay for shit. A class mate was looking at a wall mount cabinet and I found a 6U at 200 aus dollars which was by far the cheapest I could find on the web. That 12u you had a link to isn't to bad however I want a proper encloser so it can be locked away and out of sight/out of mind. Cheers for the linkage I will check it out, hopefully postage aint a massive cost to the land down under and thanks again for your input its much appricated.
  5. ah cool thanks for the heads up hex I will keep it in mind, I can handle a somewhat drunken impulse buy on a switch but not the router seeing as its the core of any half deccent network. I will most certainly do my reading on that prior to purchase. XD By the way you neglected to mention your thoughts on my choice of switch, I am curious to know what exactly your thoughts are. XD I did some a lil research and it seemed ok for what I wanted, then again I am pretty drunk at the minute and oversights come with being well and truely tipsy. ^_^ *I have a craving for ramen, anime and saki*
  6. hahahah I remember watching this ep sometime ago, the way they fixed the internet reminds me of the curry tech support my ISP provide. =P I loved that scene where Randy got his pr0n fix BWahahahahahahaha fuck I laughed hard at that!
  7. Actually I was gonna get your verdict prior to purchase hex, but I had a few to many Jim Beams and got excited and clicked buy it now XD I am curious to know what you think about my choice of switch (I neglected to do my full research prior to buying) but meh I remember doing an assingment on the 4500 and it was pretty sweet, so I figured a model or so down can't be half bad. Hahaha I may have beaten you to the personal lab setup but you are more 1337R than me when it comes to the cisco shit and you could put it to better use. I like to jump in the deep end and learn things the hard way. XD Thanks for the suggestions guys, I will put it to costing and see how I fair. I must admit I am leaning more to the 2621 side. I was also thinking about getting a server but I think I will wait that one out seeing as space is a massive issue and I really want a cabinet for all my shit. I am thinking about a 27RU that I found for 600 bucks. PS: Hey hex did you end up getting that server that was for sale from one of the other members in here?

LOL Well at least you don't have to worry about your internets dring up at school just yet. Guess they did the smart thing and ran a test before implamentation and decided against it for whatever reason. My I.T teachers were bragging about the software prior to the install over the holiday period as it turns out they really shot themselves in the foot and gave more power to the students. NOW THAT IS FUNNY!
  9. I have been wanting to slowly put together my own cisco lab enviroment for sometime now seeing as I lack the motivation to do things in packet tracer. I don't like building something I can't really use. Anyways I purchased a slightly old cisco catylist 4006 switch today just to muck around with. pretty much the same as this one Now I am a bit of a n00b when it comes to all things cisco and was after suggestions for a good and resonable priced cisco router that I can muck around with and also use on my own home network. I was thinking something from the 1800 series but figured I would ask before I impulse buy something like the above switch (after all it is the most important part).
  10. Thats what my home VPN and NAS is for =P
  11. lol your home rig is pimped up nicely. XD
  12. ZOMG Vector if you buy a mac book you will be branded as one of them elitists MAC users who only buy their equipment because it looks fashinable with your furniture. =P Ah seriously I don't hate mac's they make some pretty kick ass gear however I do hate the vast majority of its standard home user's. OMG I have to have one it l00ks so purdy!

Yeah I noticed than LANschools broadcasting generates a fair amount of traffic when I was messing about with it and capturing it with a sniffer. Fucking hell 10mbps lan with that and all the other network traffic, must of been a bitch! Hey Hyde do any of these student monitoring software on the marke actually provide any security? From the hand full I researched a while back they all seem to operate in much the same way LAN school does. Yeah that is true Dingle but thankfully my school don't utilize the keylogging option. That would be about right sparda, the teachers come to you guys requesting the software yet complain when it starts slowing down the network. *shakes head* Don't you just love dealing with the dumb end user sometimes. XD Agreed Timmy but some students can't help themselves from visiting youtube and their facefuck profiles. If you ask me if you are doing this while a lecture is given you are only shooting yourself in the foot. WOW I never knew this joint had so many school sys/network admins, its great to have some input from the other side of the fence. This question may be a lil vague but whats it like being a admin for a school?
  14. 5 points for courage and an additional 5 for not fucking your mac book.
  15. I say get off ya ass and go mate, we don't get to much con-age down here in oz so you may as well lap it up. I have done a few meets with some local folk and I would class myself as the n00b out of the group. With that said the 1337 people refrain from flaming in a face to face enviroment and in all case's they are more than happy to show you the ropes an awnser any questions no matter how stupid they sound. Most people get a kick out of sharing shit with there fellow geeks and enjoy lending a helping hand. Plus you have the added bonus of Dingle's offer in which case I say go for it and hit the booze afterwoods. XD
  16. =0 Damnn I think Matt wins hands down. Thats some sweet ass gear you have. lmfao@Tim I don't think that cat is the type of shit you cable your network with, hoever that could be fun *mental image of someone plugging the tail into a RJ45 socket*
  17. lol nice fridge, I mean cabinet. I really want one of them too.
  18. Yeah generally the error is due to an unsatisfactory mount point, I did a search of my book marks and came across this really good tut, I used this along with the pdf for setting mine up. Just unmount your shit and start again following this tutorial. http://dailycupoftech.com/configuring-disks-in-freenas/ Fuck its a pitty I don't have my documentation for my NAS config, I unfortunately lost it all when the hdd died, I really need to buy a new one.
  19. Well all our shit is old ISS department hand me downs, we get so dicked. Speaking of saving I am considering doing that and purchasing a cisco router and a switch hopefully soon-ish *fingers crossed*. I am starting to get annoyed with this 4 students per router bullshit we have got going.

Well the VMware Idea was mentioned on the first page so that was nothing new, however your findings on killing LAN school are interesting. I tried to kill it with a few port listeners with no such luck, I still reckon the best way to remove LAN school is with the installer, way less piss farting around. Ah I never thought that setting the chan to 0 would yeild you all class rooms, that was a nice find. I cant see why the hex reg on the previous page wouldn't work in a VM, I never had an issue with it and it worked a treat. Yeap the Admins can track this down very easily, via a number of ways, TCP/IP address, MAC address, The Domain user account and the VLAN port you are on. To Combat this I would suggest loading lan school on a laptop and jacking it into the schools network and spoofing your MAC address either via the device manager network card option (thats if it allows you to) or by using a nice lil app call sMAC. Note you do NOT have to be logged into the domain with your student user account to use the Teacher viewer. By eliminating the above three it only leave's you traceable via your VLAN port. I know for a fact that all our IT rooms are a part of 1 VLAN which means they have 10 class rooms to sort through. XD I concur the key logging function should not be utilized without written consent, then again I am not stupid enough to use the schools network for checking emails or other private data so its not so much of an issue for me. I am actually glad I stumbled onto this little find, one of my classes has been broken up and I have a new teacher doing the IBM iseries shit and he is a dead set NAZI with over abusing his LAN school powers. He always feels the need to mention that he is locking everyone's desktops and I just can't help myself and crack up laughing. The fucking prick told me off the other day for using my own laptop (no I wasn't do anything wrong, it wasn't even jacked into the network). I was told to turn it off because I wouldn't need it which I replied with don't ya mean because you can't control it? Its my laptop so fuck off ya twit! I also read a few of the previous posts that I neglected to reply to. If you are after ways around content filters DO NOT bother with proxy's, pinging a web address to get the ip for a url and so forth it simply does NOT work on the vast majority of educational institutions. You sure fire way around it is to set up a VPN server at home (Win XP pro will allow for one VPN client) which is a piece of piss to do, configure your router to port forward to your local private IP address that points to your VPN server. If you have a dynamically assigned ISP TCP/IP number you may also wanna sign up for a DynDNS.org account. Once thats all done just create the client connection on your schools computer and connect to your VPN server at home and enjoy encrypted secure traffic and no more filters. XD
  21. Thats what happens when a geek has to much time and money on their hands. Yes I am saying that out of jealousy, now if you shall excuse me a box of tissue's and ice cream has my name on it. =P
  22. I lol'd, now THAT is disturbing, its times like this that I actually want spam filling up my inbox that is tring to flog off cheap viagra. These photo's are the direct opposite....... Niagara!!
  23. I personally like the fact the women of hak5 get in on the cast side of things. No offense to guys or anything but if I wanted a sausagefest I would sell my p.c gear on Ebay and take up a sport. WOW that really makes me sound like one of them basement dweling geeks with buffy posters all over the wall. For the record props goes out to snubs for her segment on irongeeks osfuscate, even though it was brief I enjoyed it and found it interesting. My only minor gripe was the lack of displaying the directory you had to back up the reg keys prior to using the tool. But that was all sorted out from a visit to iron geeks website. What can I say I am male and am lazy by nature, typing in a url and reading classes as extra work. =P Uh huh surreee..... Darren isn't on a leash, I have seen who does the cooking in those kitchen in the kitchen segments. ^_~
  24. Yeah you are right about Windows 7, one of the boys was messing around with it in a VM in class today. I was like holy fuck all they did was photoshop a new logo and prepackage Vista. =P
  25. Bloody stupid EEE and my busted keyboard, makes me double post. In any case I hope the above helps.
