Wanted: Ad-laden sites

Recommended Posts

I'm in the process of tuning the ad blocking capabilities of my Squid proxy. I've turned off the ad-blocking in the browser and am now at the point where I can look for and download cracks at astalavista . box . sk without seeing any ads.

... which is good, but I want it BETTER! :D

So, if you know any sites that you know to carry lots of ads, or ads that tend to occasionally seep through your own ad blocking solution, please let me know.

If you're going to post sitenames, please make them non-clickable, and formatted in such a way that search engines won't see it as such either. Thank you!

Digg? I've been using Filterset.G for months now and I'm so surprised when I don't use it. I'd try a bunch of free adult TPG sites, they seem to have the most adverts and the most aggressive delivery policy's.

tomshardware - Clean

Anandtech - Clean (even de flash ads! :D)

muchosucko - Clean

stile - Clean

pornotube - Clean

Slashdot - Clean

digg - clean (wasn't it already?)

cdcovers - Clean

* box sk (astalavista and friends) - Clean, except for 1 self-hosted image that has nothing in the URL that reeks of ad.

Mininova - Clean

btjunkie - Clean, except for 1 self-hosted image that has nothing in the URL that reeks of ad.

Pirate bay - Clean

HotHardware - Clean

Handdrawngames - Clean

zdnet - Mostly clean, but I can't get some of the ads that are fetched through AJAX out as I can't figure out which of the BILLION includes has the ads. I mean... These assholes must have at least 5 separate AJAX framworks on their pages...

HardOCP - Clean

Geocities - Clean

So far I think it's working out pretty well. The main thing I can't combat are ads that are fetched via a POST as the postdata seems to be unavailable for filtering by Squid...

Does AJAX work with javascript turned off?

Does AJAX work with javascript turned off?

It stands for "Asynchronous Javascript And Xml", so no, it doesn't.

But most sites out there don't package all their javascript into a single file. So you have one javascript file _just_ for ads. And thankfully those files are typically named with something ad-related as well as hosted on servers with some advertising-related words in them, or better yet, hosted by the advertisement company.

Getting a transparent gif where some javascript was expected is turning out to be a rather effective way of dealing with this crap, and it leaves the page fairly intact to boot.

the hilarious thing is, you list all these sites with ads, and i have never noticed them before.
You just tune them out... like the conversation I was having in IRC... I bet you didn't even notice all the ads/pop-ups to adult websites on www.Hak5.org main page

hehhe

i knew this site would come to use some day

Please note to anyone about to do this

1) the site is NSFW (not safe for work, this also means you dont want your parents around)

2) potentially very harmful to computer, be ready to reset :P (dont try on a laptop if avoidable :P)

3) Disturbing

You need javascript open

Your window will be resized and start moving round, trying to open up any link it can on your computer

Have alt+f4 ready
