    dell crap

nope, its all set to auto
  3. ok, you know what, i agree with vako and all the others stating that you should reinstall windows if youve been infected. because thats what i do. if it gets past my security software, i will reinstall windows. but for me this takes next to no time at all. but if he is in here asking this question (which makes me wonder how long he has owned a comp) then this solution isnt a response suited hto him. hes better off simply getting most of the crap out and letting it slowly build up till he cant use windows, then install it. he wasnt asking what we would do, he was asking what HE should do.

um i have set everything to CS and added one drive at a time till i had 4 in there, a 1.2 gig, a 3.8 gig, a 6.4 gig, and a 20 gig, all on Cs and nothing, i tried master/slave arrangement, nothing, i even swapped cables. the bios simply will NOT recoginze any hard drive
  5. im not sure, but im pretty sure that i will return it and wait to get a router compatible with dd-wrt

    freeze!

my comp suddenly startsfreezing under high loads..... could it be caused by the new RAM i put in?
  7. the thing here is that he knows he has malware on his machine because it has symptoms, so he can tell when it is gone
  8. no, sorry, by connecting to the second router by cat5 cable i was referring to getting my computer to edit the settings in it........ i cant seem to get my comp to connect to it. its one of those routers that doesnt like to work without something in the WAN port
  9. yes ther is ONLY one way to be absolutely sure that the malware is gone, but that is and allways should be a last resort, only if you KNOW all others have failed. if you scratched the paint on you care, would you buy a paint scratch repair kit and fix it, or take the whole car apart piece by peice to make sure you fixed all the damage that was done. yes this CAN be true, but isnt allways, you dont have to be paranoid about this as you will ALLWAYS find out if you are still infected. the truth is that you can go right off the wall the first time and wipe everything eveytime, this will work, everytime, so will buying a new car when you get in a fender-bender, but you can also try repairing it. if its still in there after you run spybot, adaware and avg antispyware as well as your antivirus of choice (i use avg, free and it works, but you use what you want, most programs do a decent job, but were not here to argue that) after that if it fails, you can try a sys restore IF that fails then try a windows reinstall over itself if ALL ELSE FAILS wipe and start anew. trust me, i have only once ever had toreach the windows reinstall stage. and ive been using XP for 6 years also MAKE SURE YOU UPDATE, if you dont update STAY THE HELL OFF THE NET!

oh dont worry, i was trying a 6.4 gig.... but that makes sense, thx... any more info i should be warned about, ive never worked with dells before hjardware is my passion, but dells push my limits
  11. thx for the help ill look to see if there is a bridge mode, client mode or access poitn mode....... now do both routers have to be able to do the client, bride mode, or AP mode? or just the one not running DHCP and the one that is NOT connected to the internet. the biggest question is i have been have problems connecting to the second router through a cat5 cable.....ive gotten it to work once, but would appreciate someone tellingme the steps i stumbled upon earlier edit: also, another thing, ive seen on a laptop a function that says ad-hoc network (pc to pc) i presume its saying a comp with internet access can jump through comps without if they all have wireless cards to give a comp without internet access access to the first comps (if it shares internet) ALSO: I CANT USE WIRES TO CONNECT EM if i coulda, i would have
  12. perhaps we will see some HD torrents............ (PLEASE)

    cat cam?

as kids we would go and assemple cardboard armor and attack eachother with broomsticks i was the smartest and knew how to design armo, so i designed flexible plate armor and was invicible.... we never used tinfoil, but a good peice of advice for flexability and resilience is strips of carboard duct-taped together (with a gap between that allows for flexibility) and if you need more you have plates of armor hang over top. study medieval armor.... itll teach ya some stuff.
  14. right now, someone has to remake the all your base song to match....... should be easy, just get a mac and use robot voice to redo voices...... get ashley witt and pronobozo on it! its a good idea right, make a great intro for season 3.......
  15. im only 17, and i started with an old 486 running DOS. (our school syucked ass) thenm we got a Pentium mmx 233 running 95 then a pIII 730mhz running 98 (which i rebuiolt and OC'ed and am now using as my main pc running XP) then a P4 1.7ghz running XP then a p4 3.09 ghz with HT and 1gb ram running XP then a series of comps running XP home, pro, MCE, and even an ibook at times. and now the pIII again. anyways, i started early (at the age of 8) playing computer games DOS gaming FTW

i got a coupla older dells, PII era. and one wont recognize any hard drive i put in, now i know that dells are proprietary, but a hard drive? and dont say dells suck, i got these for free. so ya, basically, i need to know just how proprietary the older dells are.
  17. Everything on your hard drive will be fine, the windows installer can replace windows in situ, without touching anything else. Even if for some reason you have your OS and data on the same partition you won't lose it, you will just need to update windows and reinstall your applications. If your machine has been compromised, its best just to replace it with something you can trust again. Call me paranoid if you want, i'll accept that, but if you read what I've said n00b is far from the mark. to be honest, yes you can reinstall windows over itself and not worry much, but it will cause some headaches, alot of headaches if you are unprepared and have a single partition, so im saying that anyone who suggests somone else do this right off the bat is a noob because we can know thier particular setup. and from experience i can say sometimes reinstalling windows in situ can be a cakewalk, sometimes it can be abitch and take a shitloard of time to get all your stuff up and running again, unlike a restore point or a good scrubbing. just because its quick and easy for you, doesnt mean it will be the same for him/her also, you lose (in XP) any access to any documents and settings folders for the first admin (root admin) as no other account can access it.... so it can be a very unforgiving move if you are not prepared. also: seriously, ditch symantec.

    cane & able

sorry, but im surprised there arent any people bitching about noobs wanting us to help them exploit something for other peoples misfortune.. but ya i think its ep 1 X 03 too.
  19. im sorry this is a duh moment, you can do a search of the comp (windows search will work for this) and leave it blank. then sort by modified when categary, then see when certain files were modified (which often means last used) i use this often to tell if my bro was skipping school and was on comp. it wont catch it all, but it catches a good chunk of the stuff
  20. one: its eqsy to tell if his malware is stille there as it has definate symptoms.... two: with adaware, spybot S & D, ccleaner, and avg spyware and avg antivir (or any good anti virus) you should be fine so long as you run them regularily, these 5 will get about 95-100% of the crap outta your system, if syuptoms persist, then try restore to previous point, if that fails, THEN reinstall anybody who says reinstall right off the bat is a noob or has nothing but an OS on thier hardrvie
  21. i have a wrt54g connected to internet, it broadcasts my internet to everything, it HAS TO REMAIN INTACT, now i cant run a wire to some of my comps dure to walls im n ot allowed to cut (not my house ATM) so what im going to do is take another wireless router (i believ its an airlink superG model) and disable dhcp on it and have it communicate with the first router so that i can plug my ethernet cables into the second router. how do i get them to communicate? edit: the airlink is an ar430w
  22. i was actually thinking about doing this, but having the comp brute force fermats last thereom, which has been proven impossible, but the comp doesnt know that and correct me if im wrong, but would the best way to use up as much sys resources as possible be to write a infinite loop style program, but at the lowest possible level of programming languages, it would be interesting to see if for example: C++ locks up a system faster than Python.
  23. i had an idea like this, similar to what you plan, it would involve a wireless network that would be extended by repeaters and people would sign up for accountws to access my internet, i basically wanted to thumb my nose at the ISPs who cant be bothered to get thier coverage into the boonies-type areas, where currently there is only 28k dial-up. the idea would be that there would be a repeater device (basically just has to recieve signals (all of them on the wireless network) and send them out again, but boosted from original signal strength, basically a series of amplifiers to increase system's coverage) at the edge of each repeaters range, and its antenna would be raised into the air. if done right there would be a large amount of redundancy as if one goses down, the signal can (and is) circumventing it by going around the hole. i have heard of people being able to easily boost thier wireless network signals to go to quite far distances using dipole antennas and signal amplifiers. and since they will be raised above most cover, the distace travellable from to the other will be quite great and since once it travells from one, iot will be prolly to weak to reach through cover in to your house by the time it reache the other, but the other will also be transmitting creating a double overlap
  24. a little off topic, but that is the most overkill NAS box i have ever seen. also you said hard drive boot didnt work, was that a sata harddrive that you tried to boot from, or an IDE? and seriously, if you actually bought this box, i can understand the needing a modern mobo for sata, but you dont need a pentium D, that is overkill, celeron would be better, also ram is a little high for what you need. if this is soley for storage, your money shouldnt go into proccessor and ram, it should go into storage subsystem.
  25. the hilarious thing is, you list all these sites with ads, and i have never noticed them before.
