Machstorm
This was the most scariest yet awesome moments of my life. I heard the air raid sirens and looked outside and saw a white cigar shaped cloud flying horizontally over my house. For a moment I was like a deer in headlights. After a few second I shouted at my roommate we are going to need to take cover. And what was he doing! Playing left for dead what kind of moron plays video game when you about to be hit by (Count'em) 4 tornado's. You may argue that I was the one outside taking pictures, but atleast I knew when to take cover. Anyway here is one of the pictures I took as it was about to touch down, it was about 5 block away from me when it touched down. In the picture I am almost looking up almost through the bottom. It was still forming so you cannot see inside (The white cloud in the center)

Machstorm
Well, I did have a funny thought. If the tornado did hit near the house he would have been Left 4 Dead.
Keiyentai
Awesome pick man. We don't get tornado's where I live. Although I do live with in 100 of 3 active/sleeping Valcano's...and if anyone of them decided to go boom...I would be screwed more then likely lol

Machstorm
Yah, I watched it roll for a few minutes when it was horizontal. It was the scary kinda roll that had little stings of cloud sticking out because it was rolling so fast. Kind of like one of those rolling explosion clouds you see in a movie only it was cigar shaped.
gcninja
We get one in about every decade, last one was about 30miles, BUT a few years back, one did come out of the Grand canyon, about 2miles away from my house, no joke, it formed in it and came out and died on the rim
stingwray
Its a cloud. Americans really should stop worrying about mother nature and the weather, if you gave up building most of your houses out of wood and plasterboard and moved to brick, like we did hundreds of years ago, you really wouldn't have any problems with the wolf. h3%5kr3w
oh and btw, I dont much have to worry about tornadoes, I have to worry about HURRICANES! I live on the MS gulf coast, and it sucked balls when katrina hit. Even houses made with iron pillars were f'd.

That is so true brick houses do not fair much better against a tornado. Reinforced concrete does prevent flying debris, but not much can help against a direct hit As for it's a could statement I'll show you what that "cloud" did tomorrow when the police open up the roads. I can post more pictures if you want but there is not much to see other than dark gray clouds. My Sony DSC - H1 can only do so much. I 'll have to wait until tomorrow to get better pictures. If you guy want to look it up on kfor.com in Oklahoma. I am a few blocks away from where it hit in Oklahoma City. Looks to me like the house which has been destroyed was made of wood, and the two building made of brick are still standing.

Seshan
The problem with houses is the roof, once the roof gets ripped off there's to much pressure inside and just destroys the house, if you can keep the roof on you would be fine. Keiyentai
Yep just a cloud...that can reach speeds of 300+MPH, be a mile wide and send a blade of grass threw 2x4's...but it's just a cloud.

Just make the roof and the building out of rebar and contreate in a dome shape, then you would stand a better chance..... On seconded thought, I wouldn't want to live like that; Bring ON THE TORNADOS :D!

My Wife was living in Waveland / Bay St. Louis when Katrina Hit. I met her a year later so I got to see a lot of the aftermath when we went back and visited her folks. This is because the wall has been re-built at some point in its life (you can tell this because the fault line is vertical, changing bricks in construction would result in a horizontal line). The reason for being rebuilt is because the house probably has a foundation problem causing structural weakness, you need to actually build a house correctly, not just use good materials for it to be secure. Whedgit
who cares wut the house was made of. if a tornado is bad enough its gonna take everything in its path and turn it upside down. i believe h3%5kr3w said it best ..."unless your underground"
