It really depends on your level of experience with Linux and what you are planning on using it for. If you just want to try it out I recommend using a live CD of ubuntu. this boots off the CD and allows you to play around with Linux without having to install it on your machine. If you want or need to install it and dual boot then ubuntu is good for basic desktop stuff like word processing and internet and games. if you are looking to play with the various servers like FTP or HTTP (web server) then I prefer the latest Fedora Core. if you are wanting to dabble with some hacking and other fun forensic tools then backtrack is the best... it comes on a live CD but their are some tutorials out their for installing it. There are alot of flavors out there You'll be lucky to find anyone that has tried them all and everyone has their own prefrence of what they like. I would start with the live cds and maybe a small VMware enviroment to test them in and see what you like. Also the test that Keiyentai mentioned is pretty accurate and can help you narrow your selection to a few options

A quick google search should net you a bunch of tutorials that will go into greater detail but basically... You need to have some unallocated space available for your linux install. since you already have vista installed you are halfway there so find a linux distro that you want to install. run the installation and it will ask you where you want to install linux... choose your unallocated space. next it should ask you about the boot loader... install that to the MBR of your master hard drive (probably the one you have vista installed on.) you can also create names for your different OS' but you might want to just leave them at default. make sure that there is enough time in the delay for you to be able to choose which one you want before the default is auto loaded. choose which one you want the default to be. finish the linux install and reboot. you should now be able to dual boot.

When I decided my website needed a face lift I did all kinds of searching on the net for html and css tags and what they do. I stumbled on w3schools and now they are the first place I go when I need to find a tag and its properties. But then again I'm not a web developer. It's more of a hobby so I just dabble.

No problem. Wordpress is brilliant... especially when you start using some of the plugins that are out their for it. I only wish I had found it sooner then I did.

insert this code in or before the <head></head> section of the page and it should load all your wordpress stuff. you can even use the functions. <?php /** Loads the WordPress Environment and Template */ require('./wp-blog-header.php'); ?> just make sure that './wp-blog-header.php' reflects the location of that file on your server. Example: './wordpress/wp-blog-header.php'

Yay Missouri!! the allergy capitol of the US. (sneezes) It's still home though! We have a business casual dress code at work but when I'm lounging around at home I am usually wearing some kind of geek shirt or christian shirt.

I have no idea what the make and model of the PC was but i remember some of the specs. it was a 286 with I think 32k memory. booted off of two 5 1/4" floppy drives (no hard drive) and ran MSDOS like a dream... well once you got past the 5 minuet boot time off of the floppy. all it was good for was learning basic and running word perfect. or maybe the occasional game of asteroids. The family also had a commodore 64 with the tape drive. and I think there was a brief moment when we had a commodore Vic 20 but I kinda view those as more gaming platforms. In college (long after I had a much better machine) I picked up an Atari 800XL with a 28 baud modem and a 5 1/4" floppy drive. Ahh the good old days.

When you add someone as a friend you are essentially messaging them a request to add and they reply back if they wish to accept. when You added him as a friend it sent that request from your client (packets contained your IP address) to his. If he was running wire shark while the friend add was happening then all he would have to do is filter out all the packets that come from Messenger and it would only take an experienced Wire shark user a few seconds to see what IP the packets came from. By the way this is kinda old news. I believe this was covered on the show a couple of seasons ago (season 2?) with cain & able and wire shark intercepting Instant messaging conversations. basically the same concept. Lesson: Don't add people you don't trust to any social network site or messenger service.

"Panera" is a chain of restaurants that offer a coffee shop (Think Starbucks) kind of feel but sell food as well (soups and sandwiches) and are mostly known for their wide variates of bread hence "Panera Bread Co. (Or Saint Louis Bread Co. If you live in St louis Mo.) the switch is "Napera" Darren just keeps pronouncing it wrong (On purpose?) in the episodes.

I have used both. It depends on what you are doing. If I'm just screwing around on an open network i usually use Cain but if I'm seriously trying to go after a specific target I would rather use ettercap. since I graduated I haven't had time to use either of them lately so I probably need a refresher on ettercap.

Where at on the Gulf Coast? My Wife was living in Waveland / Bay St. Louis when Katrina Hit. I met her a year later so I got to see a lot of the aftermath when we went back and visited her folks.

Unfortunately the Backup concept is still beyond my fathers grasp... Although hopefully this dead drive will help change that. Thanks for the reply's so far, I had heard about the freezing but wasn't quite sure if it was a serious option. I would prefer the platter replacement method but I am unsure if I can create a static free clean room in my apartment and i don't have access to any kind of clean room.
