  6. I expected to do well on this..... but not this well it's really scaring me. For Science/Math: 4% scored higher, 1% scored the same, and 95% scored lower. For Computers/Technology: 7% scored higher, 2% scored the same, and 91% scored lower. For Sci-Fi/Comic: 4% scored higher, 1% scored the same, and 95% scored lower. For History/Literature: 37% scored higher, 5% scored the same, and 58% scored lower. For Dumb/Dork/Awkwardness: 5% scored higher, 2% scored the same, and 93% scored lower. From this time forward, you'll hold the title: Uber-Dorky Nerd God just to use my forum code :P
  7. Are you trying to connect to a network that is encrypted or are you trying to log onto the router to change its settings? if your just trying to connect to an encrypted network see deveants post, if your trying to log onto a router, platform doesn't matter as most home routers have a web based interface so just use browser of your choice. If its a enterprise grade router like cisco you need to telnet into it. if you have physical access to it just hit the reset button and then use the default password.
  8. I've been thinking about doing the same thing and putting my USB WIFI stick on the roof and do some range checking and see what I can pick up. ;) is there any way to check/monitor your speed over USB?
  9. Why? Better to use Ubuntu! :-) Windows has never had a good OS until after SP1 I'd still consider it beta I'm testing http://arch.kimag.es/share/62925061.gif

  11. GP just go and play on any CS type game and ppl are always calling someone a haxor accusing them useing cheats and and being script kiddies. ;)
  12. the linksys is a good enough router for most people. If your using this for home a network and not an enterprise network then I think in the same ep darren talks about how to secure the linksys. Most of it is common sense stuff. you sound like your smart enough to protect yourself. ask yourself this how likely is it that someone is going to pull up outsie your house and leach your bandwith let alone hak into your network and do something? I have the wrt54g ver5 (bummed cant ddwrt or openwrt it) and its just fine for my needs :)
  13. Try G4U ghost for unix :) http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=G...G=Google+Search

  21. when things let out the magic smoke you cant always just replace one component, ask yourself why did it let out the magic smoke, and could it have damaged other components? if a resistor got a surge then its possible that the value changed slightly and that caused the transistor to go puff. when the transistor went bad could have caused damage down the line. If your capable of changing a transistor, then what you should be looking for is a complete board for that drive and replace that.

I'm back online and I just got my first vista machine a Toshiba Satellite A135. untill today I'd never touched vista I'll give you one good reason not to use vista. My old machine was a 1.6ghz and XP pro ran great. :) if it ain't borked don't fix it. :)
  23. I want one to mount on my work bench it be a great way to get rid of all that old crap ram from that 386 or modem :) Still need a place to put the hazardous waste afterwards... yes but you can save so much space this way ;)
  24. Is the cam built in? if so set it up as a web cam and have it post to your website every 5 min then you can just go to the website or ftp them. set it to autostart on start up, then when you are useing it just turn it off in like the sys tray ;) hey I like this idea would go good with like the Nokia n770 or Iphone.... wasn't there another thread about using GPS in your laptop? we could combine those 2 ideas on Iphone or Nokia phone:) someone steals your $400.00 phone you call it and click it sends you and e-mail with a jpg and latitude and longitude. Drop that lat and long into Google Earth… and hey parents go ahead give your 12 year old kid that Iphone you want to really know where he is @ 10:00 on a Friday night? ;) that’s sounding very 1984….. oh no don’t call the thought police ;) lol anyone know if you can remote into your Iphone? VNC type Nokia’s are linux base so they’re not a problem. ;)
