  1. ....and you completely missed my point... at what specific point in time should you start calling yourself a hacker? why do you need to? there's prolly a lot of people here who would admit to a lot of the same things as my previous post...but don't call themselves hackers.. as for the inspiration for an assclown of a movie like the one you mentioned?.....puhlease. i'm also a husband, a father to three kids, a martial arts instructor, a neighbour and a friend of many who don't share the same passion for tech that i do. please don't think to lecture me on how important and precious life, friends and family are.....i'm living it. pfft.
  2. What am I? I immerse myself in computers, technology, gadgets....pulling shit apart, rebuilding it. I game like a madman...i read as much as i can...i absorb all that i can, i never stop being inquisitive...i get excited when i learn something new. I war drive, war walk and walk chalk....heh... I never miss a documentary or a movie or an hak5 episode that has something new and cool to offer. Hell i even go dumpster diving and can spend hours at a waste transfer station scavaging 2nd hand hardware, i still get a thrill bolting a PII pc togther with a 2 gig quantum fireball hdd running linux or some such and putting it to good use. If i had the money and the means i'd love to come to the states for DefCon and would love to attend the meetups that hak5 has occasionally.....i only ever dream of being part of something like that. I love hanging out with my very few like minded friends that don't roll their eyes when the discussion shifts to tcp/ip...I've travelled 4hrs 30mins to LAN with one mate, just so i can leech off his TB Drive.... If i could afford it i'd rewire my whole house for rfid and home automation and build an epic central server with storage space that would rival google...but that will never happen.. I'm 38 yrs old....and thats no shit...i'm not a hacker and don't think i'd ever call myself one...i reckon i just wouldn't do the term justice.
  3. Unless someone has a cool hack for a console...i couldn't give a fat rats ass about this thread.
  4. Hey, I recently went through a dumpster and found one of these : http://www.barcodesinc.com/unitech/pt-805.htm It came with a "wand" for reading barcodes.... Have a quick look at the specs...would this be useful for anything? Any ideas on hacks/applications?
  5. I'm going to lose the weight i gained since my life got turned upside down. I'm going to train harder and set my sights firmly on my 2nd dan.

  9. Does he have an amazon wishlist or something "paypal" like, that we could all chip in for?
  10. Maybe we should elect an obama clone....surely things would change then....right?
  11. I know i'm going to sound like a stick in the mud.... Let this forum be the record of our well wishes and symphathy for Darren.. and maybe give the guy some privacy. I'm sure his closest mates will be there for the guy whilst he's in hospital.
  12. If your chasing AVISynth, verson 2.5 comes packaged into AUTOGK,(autogordianknot)...my fav divx conversion prog.
  13. an old linksys wrt54g would be sufficent for your needs i reckon. no need to go nuts with expense... particularly if you install some custom firmware like ddwrt or tomato...these will give you access to some really cool enterprise features..
  14. In all seriousness...i have a pdf of hacking for dummies if you want it. It might get you started, try here.... http://home.exetel.com.au/dunjen/

  16. Well it's official: http://www.whirlpool.net.au/news/?id=1852&show=replies It's not that the government is going to prevent access to sites that get into some sick and perverted shit, that aint the problem. I just don't particularly want the government paying undue attention at my surfing habits and flagging me for further analysis based simply on my curiosity. (and by that i don't mean pr0n) EDIT: This guy has a really good point - "Will we know when we try to access "prohibited", "banned" & "black listed" information? Say for instance that www.abcdef.com is black listed... what will show up on my browser if I try to look at it? Will it come up with an ACMA announcement, or will I get a 404 message? Will attempts to access banned information be logged and forwarded for "future attention" by law officials? What about when Google (or any other search engine) indexes a site that is OK for the rest of the world but prohibited to be viewed in Australia. Will there be a "special" Google for Australia that doesn't show links to things we aren't supposed to know about and doesn't show image thumbnails from banned pages? I really think this is the thin edge of the wedge, prepare to be split!" Thoughts?
  17. You're never going to get the best pc money can buy. The sooner that you realise that the hardware your spending money on today will be obsolete within three months, the sooner you'll be content in building a pc with a realistic budget, that will suit your needs instead of making silly statements like money is no object.
  18. It needs a website with a geographical pinpoint map...when u get the box...you log it in. That way ppl have an idea of where it is and where its gone and who has it.

I'm looking for a dirt cheap ibm thinkpad like a t40...
  20. ^^...it's all good buddy....it happens to the best of us :)
  21. This page is completely out of date. I'm at Stanford working on my PhD now. I'll get to updating it soon. I can appreciate the link tho...the manifesto has always been very cool. :)
  22. i'm sure if Darren didn't want to do the (Discovery) interview and in turn make it to their list, he would have politely declined the offer....seeing he didn't, i don't think your rant about Discovery bringing undue focus on this website holds any water. Darren's a pretty smart fella and i'm sure he would have carefully weighed the opportunity of some free exposure for Hak5 up with the chance of attracting some attention from some of the less scrupulous community members. As for Kevin, he's a business professional without the time or inclination to get involved with the everyday handling of his own servers. I'd be surprised if there still weren't some kind legalities regarding certain restrictions on what he can and can't do on a computer even when his own business is concerned. the guy did hard time for crimes that really didn't deserve that kind of punishment/attention/paranoia....maybe take a look at it this way...why the hell was Hak5 exploited with experienced Hacker Admins like Darren and Matt running the show?? ...shit happens no matter who or how "famous" you are. only difference being Kevin employs other people to handle that shit....Darren and Matt are kinda directly responsible. most good hackers know when to keep their mouths shut and not flap their jaws for the sake of boosting their own notoriety or ego. maybe you should kinda read into that a little more, coz you sound like a 6 year old having a hissy fit. peace.
  23. Off topic a little... I'm looking for an album called "Say Uncle" by a group called Uncle Slam. I used to own it years ago on cassette and I can't seem to find it anywhere online....
  24. I did manage to find an amusing filmclip. Indulge yourselves with sweet lemonade. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_RjMSWhGWak
