  2. I'd agree that the promise of full support for a system running windows when it shits itself is a very enticing and attractive marketing point. But honestly (and i'm probably going a little off topic here) do you really want a system like windows sitting behind your banks atm? http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/06/03/atm_trojans/ http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/03/17/tr...s_diebold_atms/ or your hospital machinery when yourself or a loved one is dependent upon it? http://www.smarthealthcare.com/sheffield-conficker I understand that linux doesn't have a support system like windows....but does it really need one?...maybe in the future when it becomes mainstream.... As for fischer price gui's ...simplicity appeals i guess, which is why xp is still so popular. Your arguements are definitely valid in some respects, but lets not rule out our options, is all i'm saying :)
  3. Here's a list of my current tools on my 2gb Toshiba U3: Obi Wan's SwitchBlade Baregrep Lanscanner Putty System Information for Windows Wireshark Utorrent Foxit reader for U3 VLC media player portable TmpEnc 4.0 Xpress PowerISO Alcohol 120% Opera portable personal edition Process Explorer I found that the U3 launchpad would not function in windows 7 until i had updated the U3 launchpad to 1.6, then things ran fine. Mind you my Toshiba drive now presents as a Sandisk launchpad...but hey it works.
  4. I think the development of Linux as a usable operating system for Joe Shmo is important, if for no other reason that it will give people a choice. I can see linux reaching a day where it will just "work" for everyday people just like windows does. The way I see it, it doesn't really come down to a debate on what's the better OS. It comes down to who wants to use it....and what their application is. I mean how many businesses are currently using windows for real world applications (and i don't mean software), such as ATM's, critical medical systems etc that just shouldn't be. I know from experience that a lot of particularly business people feel that they don't have a lot of choice but to use windows in these situations, whether it be because of the specialised software they're using or the support options they have when things go wrong. Ultimately though windows for these sytems (examples mentioned above) are simply the wrong choice. RTOS of course are what should be used, however these applications should have other options for a backbone OS such as linux available to them , which is why ongoing development and properganda for linux to become part of the mainstream is so important. I agree that most people use the OS that comes embedded with the machine they bought. I tend to think however that gaming is often one of the main issues that linux is facing when it comes to having a large slice of the mainstream user market. Probably the same way that pc gaming is now faced with issues with consoles.....it just works. Well i hope i haven't ranted on too much.
  5. "Five Pointed Palm Exploding Heart Technique" .......hmmf....who woulda thought that Uma could have actually pulled it off?

  7. Well I sat down and thought about how to answer this question for a good 10 seconds and came up with ... Piss off ya clown.
  8. Heya, Just wondering if anyone had used any other type of router for the interceptor project instead of a fon+ For example I had an idea to use a an old wrt54g. I know that there are many different firmwares out there particularly ones that enable a "twin" antenna'd wrt to be split into two different wireless networks. Ideally i guess one for snooping on network traffic, the other for regular wireless access. ANy merit in this idea?
  9. Sigh...no worries...as long as you realise Digininja you're now hacker royalty in my book and you have certain responsibilities to your fans...lol thanks guys..
  10. oh....so that's it? no more development for now? oh ok...maybe i'll just shelve the project for six months...
  11. Hey there..I've successfully flash Piranha to my fon. I've logged into openwrt and had a nice look around and seen some interesting packages that i'd like to start mucking about with. I've attempted to access Jasager on 192.168.1.1:1471 and was met by a login/password challenge screen. The openwrt login allows access to Jasager for those who panic...heh like me. I haven't yet tried Jasager actively with clients....but I'm waiting to see if the wpa issues are addressed, hopefully very soon. I'm excited. :)
  12. a wog is just slang for anyone from an italian or maltese background...prolly the equivalent to "wop" no racial slurs intended here ok...it's just a description of the word.
  13. Cool thanx dude...i have a couple of options now :)

  15. Hey, So im trying to flash my hacked FON with Piranha and i'm using win 7 rc1. Winpcap installs (seemingly) without a hitch. I start up Freifunk Ap51 EasyFlash and get an error that no devices can be found and to make sure that winpcap is installed. The laptop is stand alone and is not connected to a network....the fon is plugged into the laptop and I can browse to Jasager. After doing some searching, I've found a windows7 patch for winpcap....only its a 1kb .diff file. I don't have a clue on how to apply this patch. I also read that this file may need to be converted to an executable. OR...should i just partititon and install xp ..just to do the flash? Pleasegiveafonoobahand =]
  16. Bought mine off ebay...used paypal...cost me a shitload as im in Australia....but i neeeeedddedd it lol :)
  17. Noob question...(as always).. if you have a fon already hacked with jasager installed as per the original project, is piranha just flashed to the fon as per Darren's original instructions on getting openwrt running?? Is this it and alls well or...
  18. Thanks dude, sounds very interesting. I'm looking forward to trying those things out. What do you think of the idea of collating or creating a file of "walkthrough" guides and such?
  19. Hi, Having successfully hacked my fon and briefly connecting to the thing and thinking "this is so cool", I was at a bit of a loss how to put the little creature into good use. As a complete noob, once I had actually hacked the fon, I kinda sat back and thought ok...now what. I realise that there are forum topics covering off on connecting jasager through your internet connection and many other topics that deal with certain jasager issues that take ages to pour through. I decided at the time to shelf the pineapple until it (and me i guess) matured a little and people started to share more of their ideas on uses and ways they accomplished it. I came back to the project again this weekend and thought I'd take another look at it. Alas I'm still at a loss. I understand that experimentation is always part of the fun, but I'm a person who learns quickly through watching and doing. What I'm really looking to do is put together a collection of tutorials to show the complete jasager project from installation, upgrade, right through to putting it to use in a network/pentesting/interception scenario. Maybe some of you guys and gals out there have found some really great ideas and applications for the fon and perhaps thought about putting a tutorial together...or perhaps you've found a tutorial on an alternative site that you've found useful. I'm not only looking for people to write tutorials just to help me, but to conclusively put together a reliable archive of information. I know a wiki may be useful for this BUT...the wiki here has left a lot to be desired. I'm looking at storing all these guides on a web site and I will give full credit to the authors. I'm not looking to claim anyones work as my own....my motives are altruistic. I'm kinda surprised in a way that the project doesn't have such an archive. So....if you're inclined to help and share your knowledge, please submit your tutorials. There's a few ways you could do this and I'm completely open to suggestions. You can send these on to me via email, post your links or link to your tutorial on your own webspace. I hope you think this a worthwhile idea, because as a noob in the art of the FON, we need all the help we can get. duncan.r.ross@gmail.com
