  1. Moral of the story is no one can make you hacker but you can teacher yourself how to be one.
  2. How about Nokia 97 any good?

Another way to make a server more secure, is to install the server as a core server instead of a full installation. Only installing the services that are required and only managing the server through a shell command prompt instead of the GUI.
  4. 1. If you know the host ip address than you could ping it. 2. I think that alias you are trying to set up should be called something else. 3. http://ftp.gnumonks.org/pub/doc/chroot-howto.html
  5. I don't think such a tool exists. There are lots of things in Java that don't map to standard C at all, like threading, garbage collection, and a lot of library classes. I suggest you brush up on the differences and do it by hand.
  6. Apart from being very basic, I rather construct my own homepage using HTML and CSS to make it look more realistic. I will give it a 4 because I just tried it for the first time and will possible look into using it in the future. Besides I am not sure whether Google Sites links to your Gmail MailBox Storage or not but if it does its a hell of a lot better than Geocities used to be. Cause right now Gmail mailboxes are just over 7.4GB.
  7. You could set up a web server using Apache and implement GlypeProxy http://www.glype.com/ and then you could use the built in SSL_Module in Apache to encrypt the connection. You could also set up a dynamic dns using dyndns.com, so you don't have to remember your ADSL ip address and there you go, you will have your own proxy server.
  8. I kind of like your idea, and as a matter of fact I am also embarking on a similar project. But instead of having a client software connecting to a central server somewhere over the Atlantic. I am thinking in building my own distributed system. I am still in the process of investigating what tools to use in order to achieve my goal.
  9. After spending hours researching on the internet I stumbled across this software called BOINC Client. Which is not exactly what I was expecting. I wish to use my own clustered computers to do the work for me, not someone else computer or network. Has anyone got any ideas, as to how to generate rainbow tables, using your own distributed system.
  10. Configuring BIND via Webadmin: http://rimuhosting.com/support/bindviawebmin.jsp http://www.beer.org.uk/bsacdns/
  11. I think you will find this web link very useful http://www.iwebtool.com/link_extractor
  12. As long as they are MacBook and not Dells. Never liked them and they are so problematic.
  13. Subnetting can be quite confusing sometimes. I always use a Subnet calculator for doing the math.
  14. Oh man, it makes so much sense. And that thing he said about women always talks when they are stressed, reminds me of my mother.
  15. Yeap less electricity wasted and more manageable. It makes perfect sense.
  16. That's what I used to do before, adding entries to my hosts file. Now I just use a DNS server a lot simpler and easier to manage.
  17. Does anyone know of a software that can generate rainbow tables over a cluster of computers. I still can't find a software that is capable of doing that. I can generate rainbow tables using Winrtgen but I am not sure whether it will work with Cluster Knoppix though I hope anyone can help me, thank you and sorry for being a pain.
  18. I think I kind of know what you are asking, I use Avast 5 for protecting my PC against malware infections. The good think about Avast, is that it comes with a web shield, which basically blocks any infected file before it can get to my computer. I several times clicked on links which was not suppose to, and it simply aborted the connection and informed me that the file I was trying to download contained some sort of trojan or malware. So even if you are attempting to download a file, that you are not a 100% sure if its infected or not, avast will inform so and prevent it from fully downloading into your computer. Hope this answers your question.
  19. Hi Community, I am thinking in building a clustered environment system with over 10 pcs, using 4TB of storage in a raid 0 configuration, with a motherboard supporting dual processors that will give a total of 8 cores per node. Each node will have a total of 16GB of ram and they will be using Cluster Knoppix, but I am not sure what program to use for generating the rainbow tables in this kind of environment. I just need some kind of software that will split the workload among these nodes when generating the rainbow table. I have done hours of research on the internet but could not find any good solution. Can any one suggestion or recommend anything that would work for this kind of system. Your responses will be much appreciated and thank you all in advance.
  20. I swear my connection went slow when I started using OpenDNS servers, so when I switched over to my ISP dns servers I really noticed an increase in performance. That's weird.

I think you are right, maybe I should create another thread to talk about generating rainbow tables on clustered environment. And by the way, thank you for the effort you put into searching for this information I really appreciate.
