  1. Back up tapes are the way to go. No need to rely on an external source for back up of your info. In addition you can also keep the backup offsite just in case, something horribly goes wrong. But I do like the idea behind dropbox.
  2. Thats gonna be a bit tricky, due to the firewall ports being blocked. Are there any port already opened on the firewall, like port 80 or 443.

  6. Use a stronger password (letters, numbers, and characters) and always make sure HTTPS is turned on. Furthermore ensure that the digital certificate is actually from Gmail. If its not from Gmail, there is a big chance that someone may have altered the connection.
  7. To be honest, I've been using both VMware and Microsoft Virtual PC for quite sometime. But have to say that VMware is a lot better and faster than Microsoft Virtual PC. The only disadvantage that I can think of, is that VMware is only free for 30 days, whereas Microsoft Virtual PC is free.
  8. It sounds great, wished I lived in California but I am from another domain.

    Ics?

Who knows, may be you are right
  10. For home networks with no more than 5 or 8 pcs you can still use static ip address, but once you start going over that number using DHCP will make your life a lot easier. I personally find a lot easier to have a DHCP server and a DNS server running, as I don't have to worry about remembering ip address of individual machines and in addition all you need to know is the machine's hostname. Image having to remember something like this: 103.102.104.102.104.233.245.100 that IPV6 by the way.
  11. Have you consider using a router and then implementing some routing protocol like rip, to connect the two devices together. I think this implementation will have some limitations depending on whether your router supports rip protocol or not. If it does then it should not be a problem.

  17. Most cameras nowadays will allow you to download its contents via a USB, Firewire or even thorough its memory card. Though your computer will need to have a memory card reader to be able to read the card and then download its contents to your computer HDD. Interesting fact is that, some video cameras will already come with a USB cable attached to itself, so all you have to do is connect to your computer USB port.
