  1. Yep. Ldap would be the best solution. NIS is also a good solution for network authentification but only works on Unix/Linux machines. It's not to hard to configure.
  2. I use a dlink usb adapter with kismac but I still can't reinject packets it yet. If it's the same one I bought few weeks ago for kismac, the chipset is probably ralink...I

    Mac Hacking

If you want to install linux on it, you have to use a bootloader like refit (open source) or bootcamp. I personnaly use refit and had no problem to use it.
  4. Sure, feel free to use it! I've started working on the animation, currently got 13 secs or so of it done which you can download here: http://rapidshare.com/files/25688876/part1_test.AVI Its only 5MB, rapidshare should work fine for all those without a premium account =) 3D work by Moi Music is of course by Ashley Witt The show intro by the Hak5 guys Nice video !
  5. you mac problems are easily fixed just put linux on the mac :) lol I couldn't resist. I'm installing a gentoo right now on it in dual boot.
  6. Until two weeks ago, I was almost a full time linux user and I received my macbook. So now, i'm playing a lot with macosX :P So now, I'm 50 % under linux (work), let's say 10% windows (Damn users and proprietary based softwares  ) and 40% on MacOSX...the rest of the day at home.
  7. Well, with a wifi network, a card allowing you to go in monitor mode and a linux distro with aircrack tools, it isn't hard to get the mac-address of users and to change your own mac-address.
  8. Hi. Ok, I feel using a mac-filter address or WEP encryption key isn't really the solution for you. It's quite easy to crack your key and to change the mac-address to one of your neighbors.. If you want to find who he is, you could try simples tools like : - wireshark : You can snif packets of the guy and maybe, you'll find pieces of information about his identity. - nbtscan : it will try to gather netbios informations of the computer and who knows, yu could find a name :)
  9. Look at this doc : http://www.cs.auckland.ac.nz/~pgut001/pubs/vista_cost.txt I took the time to read and if it's true, i definitely won't use vista.
  10. I'm the one who authorize websites at work (white list) so, no problem for me

    Jobs

I don't want to make a linux pub here (oh...juste a little bit ) but for unemployed guys who want to work in sysadmin stuff linux is a good choice. You can study yourself and try to find a new job in the same time. The last time I was unemployed, I did that and found a job after three months with some linux stuff to do in this job.

  15. The first hak5 episode for me was the seven one on yutube. it was in may 2006 I think. Hopefully, during this episode, there was the url and I was able to watch the other episodes in two nights.
  16. I'm confused. I thought these firwares could only be used by the Linksys WRTG-54G.... I got one of these routers/switchs/AP but it sleeps inside its box. There is dd-wrt in it. I think I coudn't use open-wrt because of my original firmware so I had to use dd-wrt which was really easy to install. Assuming you can use tese firmwares, you should try to go to open-wrt first. I think it's more powerful than dd-wrt. If you can't use open-wrt, dd-wrt is still a good firmware, much more better than the linksys firmware. There are much more possibilities. For me it was like having a new equipment in my hands.
  17. I don't know about dell...but thinkpads are good laptops. HP has some goods too. I have an history with acer. The internal cd-rom drive died after one year and sony (5 years ago). The laptop was instable with windows...and linux...I really had some hardware troubles with this one. Medion is not so good too. The processor has to run slower now otherwise it's overheating.
  18. Look at this link. There are some articles about the laptops running on gentoo. It might help you.
  19. I'm not an expert of forums at all but this forum seems to work fine and has a pretty high activity. Edit: Fixed URL. Moonlit.
  20. I love gentoo too. The installation isn't so hard but could be long because of the compilation of all packets. The most difficult part is the compilation of the kernel if you want to make your own. It was a pain for my new laptop at work. I spent few hours during the evenning to get the perfect config for my kernel. After the installation, the O/S works like a charm. knoppix is fine for what you want to do.
