  1. I'd prefer giving some finacial help for things like webhosting costs but no for a software. There are nice open source solutions which can do the job.
  2. Is it possible to chat through a proxy ? I tried several clients and it didn't work. If you know a good client which could help me, it would be nice.
  3. You should find wich card can go in monitor mode first. Without this mode, you won't be able to capture IV flags. I can't find the website with the list of these WI-FI cards anymore. If I have time this afternoon, I'll try to find it again. If I remember well, you can find this list with the aircrack keyword on google.
  4. You should go with wireshark (It' how ethereal is named now). It is at least quite easy to sort by IP address of type of packet. It helps you read a packet too. You also can read packets in monitor mode, so you actually don't need to be connected to the wireless network. But you do need at least the key . You should give it a try. It's a nice tool.
  5. For music, I found the solution. I'm listening a web radio and i use streamripper to get their music in mp3 tracks. I don't need p2p anymore for music which isn't recommended in my country. This method remembers me the old time when I was making my own tapes in my old radio recorder.

    question

On linux you can easily change the mac address with the ifconfig. There also are some utilities to do it on windows. Anyway, even if they have your mac address, it will be a pain to hunt you with it. The MAC address is given by the Network card's manufacturer. The first three numbers are the manufacturer identity and the three last one are the card ID. 00:90:F5:4E:CE:A7 I don't think they will be able to find the serial number of your laptop with the mac address. And even if they have it, can they tell where it was selled and who bought it ? Especially if it's an old laptop..

    Linux

You could try Gentoo. There is a good documentation avaialable on the website and you have a good forum to help you out. The only problem for you would be the compile time. Would you be ready to wait for packages to be compiled ? If not, Debian, fedora could be some good choices. Yu talked about visual basic before. I don't think you can run it under linux but you can try vmware to virtualize a windows machine under your linux. It could be slow especially if you need a windoxs XP or more but if it's just for VB, it could be ok.
  8. I'm playing at enemy territory: True Combat Eite. It's a kind of counter strike. The interest is the linux version available. There's no need to play with a windows version to be able to play with.

    IT Jobs

I work for an Hospital as a technician but I do a lot of sysadmin on linux/unix servers, and a few windows servers. Actually, I do a lot of stuff that I coudn't do in a big company or big hospital. I worked in a big one before, I only did network tasks on cisco switchs. This is my third job and it is a pretty cool one and I don't have to code or anything like that (or just a bit, but that's really nothing)
  10. http://www.dealtime.com/xPC-Monster-Cable-...R-www.google.fr The cable you need is the first one in the list. Don't worry. it says it's for the AP 1200 but all cisco equipments uses the same serial cable. Once you're connected in, if there is an old configuration in it, and if you don't have the passwords, you can make a password recovery. You can find it with google. It's a easy procedure once you have the documentation. If I remember well, there's also the possibility to get the default configuration back by playing with the front little button (press it something like 10 seconds) and the power cable. You can try several combinations, there's no risk at all. It's a strong switch. (Really, I totrtured some cisco switchs and none of them died  ).
  11. As it's a gift, I'm not asking for anything. They give me what they want.
  12. I voted freeBSD. I use knoppix only for recovery, or backup tasks. I woudn't use it as my main distro.

    telnet

Because I got time, I'll try to give you a nice answer Telnet basically permits you to get control remotely to another machine with command line. Its port number is 23. It isn't used much anymore because telnet isn't secure at all. As there is not encryption during the telnet session, every data is seen in clear. When you connect via telnet, your password can be intercepted. That's why ssh appeared which makes the same thing but it is more secure. Normally telnet shoudn't be used anymore but there still are some equipments using telnet as some switchs, routers/modem ,...

    Mac Address

I live in an appartement. I only recieve 4 wireless signals and sometimes another one. The last one is Open :? but stays few minutes and it's quite rare. There is only one wireless network with WPA encryption. The rest uses WEP encryption. In this exemple, i guess the guy with WPA encryption is the one with less risks. if I had to hack one of them, I'll just waith for the first who makes a sufficient number of packets to get cracked. It is actually just a question of time and patience as I can't inject packets. That's a very important advice. There's another important advice. Change your admin password of your access-point/router ! I noticed a lot of people don't do it. In the cas of a wireless attack, the bad guy just have the complete control of your network. He can do whatever he wants. In the case of the ACLs, he could add a mac-address for himself or simply remove the acls. If your access point is the router, he could even open ports for his own needs.

    Mac Address

It sounds better :D . Actually, with the linksys router named WPC-54G (If I remember well the name), you can use linux firmwares. I tried dd-wrt once and I was amazed how good it was compared with the original linksys firmware. It manages vlans and it pertmits to easily check who's connected in via the MAC-ADRESS.

    Mac Address

I'm a bit disagreed with you. it's difficult to say how a wireless network is secured. It mainly depends of...the people living in your area. You could get no trouble at all during 10 years as you could be hacked after two weeks. The facts are : WEP is crackable, WPA is crackable. The way WEP is cracked (I actually didn't see how WPA works but it seems aircrack can beat it too), you get the client(s) MAC-ADRESS so the mac-address access list is useless. If a guy decided to crack your WEP key, changing his MAC-adress by yours is nothing. With linux, it takes one command. Because of this, I don't use wi-fi at home even if it could help me out. I prefer to have a 10 meters cable. it's not handy, but it's a lot more secured than wireless network. At least, I don't have to fear against potential threats in my neighbourhood. The guy who tries to get access to your network is not obligatory a guy who wants to harm your network. He may just want to have an internet connection for free (or maybe he's just an internet addict, he just moved and can't wait for his internet connection). My advice, if you use the WI-FI anyway, it's at least to use WPA, change your key regulary and monitor your network too..and don't use P2P. There's a chance the guy can't make injection of packets but p2p will help him a lot. In less than one day, he will get enough packets.
  19. I did one year of network studies (I could say 3rd degree but I'm really not sure), we had to follow cisco courses which were really nice and we had a few cisco routers and switchs to play with.
  20. The same for me but I'm still at work. What kind of show is it exactly ?
  21. Mouhahahahahaa !!!!! :D :D :D
  22. As the WG111T uses an atheros chipset, it may work with te madwifi drivers. http://sourceforge.net/projects/madwifi/
  23. Have you try to find on the web which is the default username/password. Here's a link which could help you (hoping your router is in the list). It's a french website but it won't be a problem to navigate trough the list. http://www.pccliniquenet.com/component/opt...ress/Itemid,65/
