HELP! My roommates is sniffing my packets.

I have noticed that some of my connections aren't secure for over a few months now. My antivirus also keeps saying there are some network vulnerabilities. (Something about DHCP and it wants me to update the router firmware) I suspected that it has been monitored for a while now but, last night confirmed it. I was watching porn on my phone and I heard them laughing in the room next to mine. I wasn't sure if it was related and I heard one of them saying "He keeps on pausing and screenshotting it". I wanted to test to see if what I did on my phone would cause more laughter so I started looking up weird fetishes and they laughed even harder. I'm so embarrassed and I also feel very angry. Should I feel entitled to internet security when he owns the router? We all contribute to the internet bill so I would think that I'm entitled to some network privacy but, it would seem that they view it as "anything goes".  I don't know what to do and I need your help. I really want to get back at them but, I don't know what to do. I thought of downloading a virus on a virtual machine so that it also downloads on their machine too (if they're downloading all my packets). If you have any questions for me, feel free to ask. I'm not very experienced in networking but, I'm willing to learn.

P.S. I do have a VPN but only on my Windows PC

Don't use the Wi-Fi and stop paying for it.

Or

Get another wireless interface (e.g. USB Wi-Fi dongle) for your Windows PC. Use that to create your own Wi-Fi AP on your Windows PC. Connect all devices to your new windows AP, Configure Windows PC to route all your AP traffic through your VPN. Delete his AP from your known networks from all devices other than the windows PC.

I don't condone revenge... it usually ends in trouble that isn't worth the short term satisfaction. But you do currently have the upper hand for mischief. Currently he does not know you know he's watching... Get creative.

I sounds like they’ve got a direct view of your screen. To see pauses and whatnot. Could there be a remote screen viewing program on your computer that they’ve installed on your computer?

I feel for you, brother. Every man has the right to watch his porn undisturbed. I wouldn't worry too much about your traffic being watched. Most internet traffic is now encrypted especially if you have a VPN so make sure you use it. You can use the same VPN settings on your phone. Check with your VPN provider website, they may even have an app to automate it for you. Some websites don't encrypt pictures or you room mates might be stripping ssl off from your connections. Either way, once you connect through a VPN, you should be ok.

As for revenge, put a keylogger ($30 each online and not too difficult to use) on their keyboards and collect their passwords, accounts, etc 😉

Make sure to keep us updated 🙂

They are often people trying to lure hackers in with sob stories who then try to get them to do criminal stuff for them.

Or people who have read a few too many blog posts and become over paranoid.
