CaveMan
I would tell her what she always told me, Never trust a stranger, always look where you are going, nothing in life is truly free, and if it is too good to be true, it probably is. that is by far the best and most searous so far :P
Sammael
My grandma has a dual boot box she set up before I was born and writes most of her own software. (She worked at Bletchly Park in WWII where they broke the enigma code.)

cooper
If she never touched such a machine before, my advice would be to go to a 'learning to use computers and the internet' course. Over here there's quite a few of them, geared towards the elderly. If that's too much of a burden for her, tell her to stick to writing postcards. ShinmaRyuu
The advice i gave to my grandma to start out with is. Don't be scared to try things, save your files to the external drive, and always ask questions if you need help.
Sparda
Did you mention not asking dumb questions? Although, I guess it's kind of hard to tell what a dumb question is if you don;t understand how computers work. Example of a dumb question: If I visit an american web site will my UK keyboard work? That is definitly a dumb question, but if don't know then... ye, your prety stuck... of course the obviuse thing is to just go and see if it works and then if it dose ask questions. Plus, if some one asked that on this forum they would likly get n00b bashed to death.
