  1. Uhm, they would have to have some sort of software already installed on their phone that automatically lets you know where they are... you can't just bust into someone's phone because it has GPS capabilites. If you're really worried, and you are family, you can go to the carrier and they can tell you the last location of the tower that the phone registered at through its IMEI number but you're really going to need to prove to them who you are etc. before they're going to do this for you.
  2. Hey everyone, This dell that I recently bought is amazing except it has a new broadcom wireless chipset which currenly doesn't have a driver available for it that allows for it to be put in monitor mode, which has thus far ruined my plans of going wardriving with this lappy. I was wondering if anyone had some recommendations for an expresscard (or usb... but expresscard is much prefered) 802.11g card that uses extrenal antennas so I can get a better range and also uses a highly supported chipset such as atheros. Also looking to keep this sub-$50 (before antenna). Thanks~

    May Desktops

O_o why you would choose that theme is something I'll probably never understand. Anyways, I just don't like Windows bashing because I actually like the OS, just not as much as *nix so I don't use it as often, especially on no-gaming-ever type PCs. Also curious as to why you're building things from source most of the time, as Arch intended as a mostly binary OS.

And now the brand new lappy running Arch... Also, @3vmike, there is a huge sense of irony that your WP bashes windows and yet you're running ubuntu...
  6. Can't even fit it on my screen...
  7. It fails every time I try to start capturing packets for me on WinXP SP3. Cool idea though.
  8. You know the drill, let's see em. Anyways, here's my WinXP partition on my desktop, will post the Arch partition and my laptop's screenies later.

    What else does it do?

Sorry to disappoint, but there's no XBMC for this, no custom firmware, no homebrew, or anything like that. The most you can do is you can flash the dvd drive's frimware so that you can play backed-up games.
  10. Took them long enough, it's been a huge security flaw forever, will be nice no longer having to be paranoid about who sticks their drive into my computer.
  11. I wouldn't recommend using the EEE kernel on anything but an EEE as it only has the drivers required to run EEE hardware, nothing else, except it works okay on some other netbooks because they use similar hardware.
  12. I'd install Arch, and then swap out the generic kernel for the EEE kernel. All information about this can be found on the Arch Wiki. With the latest kernels with some EEE patches I've heard you can get some astounding battery life.

    Thermal Paste

Personally, I've never used anything but Arctic Silver 5, and it has never let me down, so I can't say anything about 3 or the other brand, but I know 5 will do the job.
  15. Matroska is a very good container for certain types of video files, an online show like Hak5 is not one of them imho.
  16. You could very easily write a script to take a screenshot and then dump it to an FTP or HTTP server, however this is going to take up a lot of space very quickly if it happens every 30 seconds.
  17. @Deveant: You might wanna look at mkv2vob ^_^ @Soupdog50: That looks like a huge improvement, 720p should be playable on that.
  18. @vector: Has AMD announced a date for the eon? If it's not too far out then I'd just like to wait. @digip: I love AMDs (I'm on my Phenom desktop right now ^-^) but the Turion is noticeably slow compared to a C2D. @3vmike: It has a 8400M GS w/ 128mb.
  19. Well thanks for all of the advice, but I've settled on the Dell Inspiron 1420, since it's on sale now for $707 with a 2.4ghz C2D, which is a really important thing to me, since the processor is the one thing you can't really upgrade it laptops and this one is going to have to last me for a while.
  20. Streaming HD on that little guy... not going to go over super well. I would recommend getting yourself with a micro-atx with a small psu and an efficient C2D for the processor. Would be able to stream HD just fine, do any emulator you'd like, etc. and it wouldn't use that much more power than the EEE... however I'm not sure you'd be able to fit it into a NES case.
  21. I had it stuck in my head for four days straight >_
