  1. Yeah ideally 0, as even 1 bad sector in the wrong place can render the drive unreadable. I recommend getting a copy of Hiren's or the Ultimate Boot CD and running a utility called HDAT2. Choose the mode that scans AND repairs sectors and let it run till it's done. It may take a a few hours or more, so just do it overnight or something. It's revived two coworkers' laptops so far.
  2. I'm still working on this, just been a bitch since the surgery. Something will be out before I exit the military at the end of the summer, guaranteed.

Turn off your computer for a few days.

  5. Use everest or google the s/n on the motherboard itself. There should be some sort of identifying marks on the mobo though, manufacturer, etc.
  6. I use my wrt54g at home with dd-wrt, and VPN through that. Just remember with a VPN that only the traffic inbetween the endpoints is encrypted. Each endpoint itself is still vulnerable so if either your machine or the endpoint machine is compromised the VPN is useless.
  7. The attachments upload directory is not writable. Your attachment or avatar cannot be saved.
  8. I only care about legal contractual stuff, not just randomly trying to pwn a network.
  9. Camera comfort isn't something that's easily undone too. It's almost like.. you have scripted stuff on one plate, and unscripted on the other, and it's very hard to find a way to balance that scale while still enjoying it.
  10. Good grammar will take one far in life. :) Welcome, and just remember that you want to utilize those black hat skills to make legal money whenever possible.
  11. Who all has actual experience doing penetration tests (legally)?
  12. Anyone got a mirror of it?
  13. I was using it for my non-steam games. Basically it does a bit more, like patching your games for ya, and a lot of games have xfire support for launching games from an IM. You're right though, I've neglected it over the last couple of weeks due to the sheer number of things I log into everyday. It's probably not worth the time to run with this, instead focusing on steam. :)
  14. Wanker is my favorite british word.
  15. Interesting question. I did a search on ubuntuforums.org for ya and came up with these links: Older one from 2006, has good info: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=294514 Newer one from 2007, might be just the right tutorial for ya: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=652640
  16. Hacking and modding don't have to have any relation to anything at all. If it's fun and you learn something, and nobody gets hurt, it's a win. Or.. ??? Profit. :)
  17. Cool. I am not advocating wasting our entire administrative resource on the usb hacks of course.
  18. How many of those 7000 actually log in per week/month?
  19. Usually just this one. I pop my head into pcper and arstechnica sometimes, and a few other spots, but only once or twice a month. I became bored with most forums after my IGN/VN days.
