  1. Not sure what Acer etc use, but the Intel Wireless toolset that comes with most Dell Latitudes allows you to create an executable that you can distibute / run. Again now sure if Acer has anything like this. Arn't wireless settings held in the registry?

    Punishment?

No, you're an idiot You are correct Grammar+1 to you sir. You're an idiot still stands for the OP
  3. Buy a domain and buy some hosting - stop being cheap... Hak5 even gives you discount codes for GoDaddy and DreamHosts WHAT MORE COULD YOU WANT? If you still being cheap learn how to install and onfigure Apache!
  4. Gotta go with VaKo on this one Reinstall - at the very least an XP Repair or Install over the top (Not my choice - I'd do a clean install)
  5. ...Docking Station? Answer to the next post below. ...Shouldn't have bought such a bunk laptop!
  6. From experience if its clicking then the whole drive is dead, no ammount of software is going to access the disk (I belive the clicking sound is the arm) so this is hardware related. People like OnTrak can recover the data for you, but I belive their service costs run into the $1000's - they will take appart your harddrive in a clean room and rebuild it. On a side note has anyone ever done / tried this themselves?

    Reverse DNS

I havn't configured DNS on the DC, havn't seen the need, Exchange/DC Promo would have done the leg work? I am also thinking that surely Network Solutions (who provide DNS for the Domain) should have RDNS settings?

    Reverse DNS

I hope someone can shed some light on Reverse DNS for me as my head is in a real mess. I am in the middle moving people away from a workgroup / POP email setup to a Domain / Exchange based setup, it's a long slow process so I am currently having to support both setups. (Please note the old setup was not mine) We are using Fasthosts to provide email via POP3, our domain was registered with Network Solutions and a 3rd party hosts our website, BT is our ISP. How the dual systems are working ok and as mentioned one by one I am moving people away from Fasthosts (I will get to the end point sometime this year, when mail will then come in via SMTP and resolve this Reverse DNS mess) The problem I am having is that email my new Exchange users send to AOL / China all get bounced due to Reverse DNS not working (people on the old system can send fine as Reverse DNS resolves to Fasthost) I have read that I can have more than one Reverse DNS PTR record and I belive this could possibly solve the issuse I am having? If not - why not? Second question is how do I track down where this additional PTR needs to go, I have read that Network Solutions do not support Reverse DNS, thirdly does anyone have any other suggestions?
  9. Can all be done via Group Policy... Google it Its Under Computer Configuration / Windows Settings / Security Settings / Account Polices / Password Policy Edit it and reboot
  10. 1. Bland design? It's a laptop, it's a tool, if you want a fasion symbol buy a Mac 2. Indian technical is ok... first few times it's annoying, but after dealing with hundreds of Dell computers you know what to say, lets be honest most of us here are from a technical background, I'm not going to hate on someone reading from a script in India but I know when a motherboard is fucked, I know when a disk is knackered - 90% of the time I lie to Dell just to get off the phone, am I really going to run a 3 hour diag? No, Just tell them you've already run it and it showed no disk problems etc etc 3. NBD Support from Dell wins hands down for me (especially when it comes to servers)
  11. That link is taking ages to load for me, there is a boat load of Password settings in Group Policy e.g. Requirements, Expiry, Reuse etc
  12. I honestly don't care about this half story, we've no idea why the house was raided but it was probally done so on good grounds, who knows what was on those disks only the author can tell. We already know he has illegal firearms...
  13. And your build quality is to the highest standard you say :-P
  14. I want a laptop made of Wood, thats so small it fits into my back pocket, it needs to be ultra light weight, yet have the processing power of 8 cores, it must also have a battery life of 10 hours, it should also have a solar panel attatched to the top of the screen which I can tilt at an ankle to best charge the battery, there should also be some sort of crystal insde the laptop that charges the laptop as I move around (kinetic or something) Once I remove the laptop from my back pocket It should fold out to include a full size QWERTY keyboard, touchpad and also a 17" Widescreen monitor, should have basic WIFI, GPRS etc. I think that covers my basic needs, oh I don't want a branded laptop - becauses its not hip, and I also only have $200 to spend on it. Can you help...?
  15. It has a wank name and the case does nothing to excite me :D
  16. Active@ Password Changer (http://www.password-changer.com/) Is useful when your on a spot, to be honest, If I gave my system to someone to do work on, I would expect them to ask for my password, if they don't then i'd expect them to have reset it. There are reasons why people have passwords, theres a reason why there hashed one way.
  17. WTF is with this Alienware love fest? Never understood it and I don't think I ever will.
  18. Server 2K3 comes with NTBACKUP Under Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Backup Supports Snap Shots (Shadow Volume) Really we need more detail your want to backup just the server? Ok Data is fine, but email? Exchange Server? NTBackup can do all of this, its sounds like you need some commerical software, I personally would not recommend simply copying files.
  19. I belive - Start :-> Shutdown and Pressing the Power button once are the same thing I am not on my laptop at the moment but will have a look at my power options (I assume its XP?)
