  1. do you have a copy of everest home. it will tell you
  2. thats microsofts way of getting back at you for using vmware to run a better OS than vista, using vista
  3. slowness is a major factor of unreliability. I also ran vista (still have it because i have to get a good feel for the OS since many of the new pc's i have been fixing have had windows vista ) many of them were people who got a new HP computer with pretty good specs, 3GB memory, and a good CPU for gaming (then with a crappy videocard that probably the mode it can ever do is run the vista glass crap effect) people will complain that their PC is slow and will ask me to make sure there no viruses or trojans. and it usually turns out that the cause of the slowdown is vista. superfetching can speed up the opening of large programs, but at the cost of application performance and overall system performance and with all the other crap vista runs, the OS feels very sluggish, games are much slower and vista is less fault tolerant (installing beta creative drivers caused vista to bluescreen in both normal mode and safe mode and the last known crap never fixes anything. with xp i have done worst, i have installed beta ones that were designed for another model of a card. all xp did was notice that the driver didn't work and just didn't use it if you want direct x 10 and cant wait for a hacked copy to be released for windows xp (already in the works) then go with vista. DX10 makes things like smoke and fog look smoother in most direct x 10 games most of what direct x 10 does is increase the lighting quality and particle quality in games that use direct x 10 and in many games you cant really notice the difference. http://img259.imageshack.us/img259/5643/10gidzrtz8.gif[/img]
  4. i made some installers which makes it much easier to get it up and running with pandoras jar because they do pretty much all of the work for you. if your having trouble with the main download thread, try the installers
  5. yep GTA San Andreas was fun. especially shooting random people until the army started to go after you might get Red Faction never played it before

    Alexa rank

since there a spyware company, most of their stuff is blocked by any adblocker if you want to find the amunt of traffic, add a hit counter (may seem a little cheesy but it works) or make something cool and submit it to digg.com and get the digg effect
  7. I currently use winavi which works well except for one problem it is only single threaded. on my opteron 170 overclocked, just using 1 core it will convert a 640x480 video at around 300-340 FPS using only 1 core (the company doesn't seem to have any plans for multi core support i tried other converters like super and they only got around 60-80fps and the quality was the same as with winavi does anyone know of any video converters that are as fast as winavi and support formats like .mkv http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/2579/hak55gk4.jpg[/img] I mainly like using the batch converter so i can convert all videos i download into avi format and 320x240 for my pocket pc as the screen is only 320x240 and theres no need for 640x480 content as that just makes the files much larger and waste space. and i also need to convert the dreaded mkv files there like 4 times the file size of others and contain about 5 different sound streams and and lots of other stuff that makes it so i can only fit 10-12 videos on my pocket pc instead of 20-30
  8. if you know someone who uses lots of custom windows boot screens, do this prank on them use a windows ME boot screen it will bring back many happy memories
  9. make sure the extensions are not editing the connection settings some extensions such as down them all and many others will edit the connection settings to fit their needs like downthemall will set the connections to 204 connections and 108 connections per server and and many sites wont work with this so they will act like their loading but never finish loading. others will load for like 5 minutes and others wont load at all with the connections set that high. make sure your extensions are not doing something similar http://img245.imageshack.us/img245/958/connectionjd5.jpg[/img]
  10. about half of my playlist makes up that kind of music
  11. sli needs 2 of the same exact cards to work (your motherboard must also support SLI) the cards have to be the same exact model and be from the same company as most companies clock their cards differently also know that SLI causes a huge bandwidth overhead adding a second videocard usually only gives a 20-30% increase in performance you can get close to that by overclocking thats the main reason why when a new videocard comes out, it is generally faster than 2 older cards in SLI the raw performing power is much less in the newer one, but the overhead of SLI causes a major slowdown and if you play a game that doesn't support SLI, you will loose performance as compared to 1 card
  12. head over to his house, set up a wireless router on the same channel that he is using. then run a benchmarking program like IxChariot it generally causes signal problems for others around you using the same channel

when I was in high school, the teachers would thank students who helped fix problems. like when they blocked e-mail and many other sites that the teachers actually used, I was able to get on many teachers good side by giving them copies of firefox portable that I pre setup to use reliable proxy servers. so it really depends on what you do at the school, if you want to get around anything that some admin setup, make sure your doing it to help people, mainly the teachers. at the high school, everything had to go through a proxy server owned by the DOE and they blocked almost everything that made the internet useful no e-mail because students would use the school computers to check their e-mail (which many of our classes used because it was much easier to e-mail long assignments to the teacher instead of printing them out)
  14. use avi. many codecs can get a 2 hour movie down to 600MB at 640x480 and keep really good quality PS you can get a 120GB hard drive for like $30-40
  15. Just listing pages that I found, that was not listed in the UI of the 192.168.1.1 page for some reason PS verizon dsl is offering upgrades from 3.0Mbits to 7.1Mbits (this increases the monthly fee to 39.95 a month, from the 29.95 for the 3.0 Mbit package) if you have verizon DSL and are willing to deal with a $39.95 a month fee then call verizon for the upgrade 1800-567-6789 PS the 7.1Mbit DSL is mostly available in places where verizon fios is not available to Was messing around in the telnet for the free router that verizon gives you with the DSL service ( Actiontec GT704WG ) As many users of the router may notice, the features listed in the 192.168.1.1 page seems very limited, but a quick search through telnet will show all sorts of goodies. some of the links that may be interesting to the basic user thats not available through the main UI 1, custom_setup_aprate.html ( full link http://192.168.1.1/cgi-bin/webcm?getpage=....tup_aprate.html ) (interesting feature: the ability to control the power level for your wireless) http://img519.imageshack.us/img519/8504/wireless1yr4.jpg[/img] 2, tools_modemtest.html (full link http://192.168.1.1/cgi-bin/webcm?getpage=...._modemtest.html ) http://img519.imageshack.us/img519/8826/rr2ux8.jpg[/img] 3, tools_scan.html (full link http://192.168.1.1/cgi-bin/webcm?getpage=....tools_scan.html ) allows you to do multiple scans at the same time http://img201.imageshack.us/img201/2889/rr3ix0.jpg[/img] 4, custom_setup_ippass.html (full link http://192.168.1.1/cgi-bin/webcm?getpage=....tup_ippass.html ) IP passthrough http://img369.imageshack.us/img369/3471/ff4sq1.jpg[/img] 5, ti.html (full link http://192.168.1.1/cgi-bin/webcm?getpage=../html/ti.html ) this page gives more system info on the router for a list of other pages that may or may not be useful http://img358.imageshack.us/img358/8909/rr5jv1.jpg[/img]

  17. yep. second life is fun sometimes but not really a game since people mostly talk in SL thats my character getting hit by a car http://img412.imageshack.us/img412/28/snapshot065wa0.jpg[/img]
  18. they wont let me get a second one because i already got their free sample before. it was good the coffee mate coupon gives you a full sized bottle and that stuff taste extremely good with tea i like the savingadvice site better for free samples there more up to date as there hundreds of people working on finding them
  19. do you have any other programs that are using t that port? if so then change the port by editing the batch file to do this, head to the Pandora folder then right click on the file named Pandora.bat then after that, click on edit you will see @echo off start javaw -jar pandora.jar 8085 cd "C:PandoraFox" start firefoxPortable http://localhost:8085 change the 8085 to another port of your choice thats not in use

it's nothing to worry about, they almost never check them and since ie is the default browser, exploits that install trojans are very common
  21. ipv6 is going to suck when it becomes a standard. it's already hard enough to remember the ip addresses to my favorite BF2 and jedi academy servers (if they extend the length, it will be hard to remember all 15 ip's
  22. also make sure your service actually offers this speed all the time. some isp's will say 20mbits for the first 2 MB of your download then they push you down to a slow speed (it is kinda like those idiot cellphone store owners you see in the middle of the city yelling out "free cellphones " when i asked them about it (i knew it was not free) they wanted $180 for the phone and said when you agree to the 3 year plan, you get $180 in savings, the plan offered 300 minutes and cost $80 a month complete ripoff, if anyone falls for it there crazy) call your isp and find out if the speed is offered at all times or just offered for a small portion of a download. if you want to make sure the problem is not a software one, then run a linux live cd and run the speed test a service like fios will offer that speed all the time and you will see the full speed from many sites, especially when using the down them all firefox extension (helps with those sites that cap the speeds )
  23. stay away form the cheap sony ones, i got one and it sucks I have gotten free flash drives in the main from different survey sites and those 1GB ones work fine, and transfer at 10MB/s the sony 1GB one that i for for $12 only goes at around 800KB/s according to the everest disk benchmark (usb 2.0 yea right )
  24. while some are jerks, there still useful criminals are less likely to attack or rob you near a police officer
