Ok i havete say thats a bit of bs statement no offense though. Thats providing false facts, if you use a useless av then obviously it wont pick up the virus, useing a good av that has real time protection will be able to pick up viruses that are being downloaded through p2p services. I know this because i used to use Kaspersky and use p2p services and it picked up the virii that i mistakenly downloaded, it picks it up by about 10 - 30% of a completed download

ok i have to agree with them and admit that i was wrong now that i changed my way of thought.... I cant call myself a hacker but i know this much, dont let people tell you what to do. Every hacker will tell you that they arent governed by so many rule because it holds you back from your full potential. I personaly would rather help someone find a problem and fix it for free but with out them telling me with what to do, then having them pay me but tell me what to do. A true hacker knows that an attitude like "oh i know it all" is just not on. A hacker is a person that would be willing to help you out, but dont be a noob and expect them to spoon feed you thats just not on. Dont call yourself a hacker just for them fame or the feeling of being SOMETHING. Be who you want to be, be passionate about what you do. Dont hack into systems for reasons that arent good because then you not a hacker you a cracker and i personly dont like crackers. Dont steal other peoples ideas and claim it was yours. Try to research and learn something yourself. I know i went totaly off topic but i just thought id change the way i answered you. As for the topic, use what you want use any os you comftable with because somewhere somehow you will find something you can do with it. Somewhere somehow you will find a program that allows you to do what you want. Hi i started using linux 2days ago so i am a total neewbie to linux. Im using ubuntu and made my 3d box but i need help with the bottom of it. How would i get a pic at the bottom instead of it just being green? heres a picture of my box but if you look closely you can see that the bottom is just green and not a picture. How would i leave the bottom and top with nothing at all or get a pic for the bottom?? This is no lie when i tell you i was the exact same like you, but this is what i did: I found something i loved and started asking questions about it, that way i started doing more research about it and had less time for games. I was so into it that i started writing about my findings and wrote articles and stuff. Because i did this, i know that i can pick up any book and read it even though its not the topic i chose. The way i see it is, if you get brain in a pattern its gona wanna do it all the time, thats why you long for the games, just try to break outa the habbit I also found something that i loved and really wanted and made that a goal. When you have a goal in your life it will make you try to work harder. Another thing i guarantee will work is waking up about 5 am or even earlier and start reading through your work. At this time the brain is able to focus/concentrate better then other times of the day. (This doesnt mean you should wake up like 2am and sit whole night studying,this is madness) Just wake up about 5 learn for an hour and go back to sleep I hope i could help ;)

Well i wont lie to you i already know these lessons lol, im not new to this and i do what im doing when repartiotioning and stuff i do it alot, i dont know why this time it got messed up. But anyways thanx for the adive i am seeing that the mp3s are only a few kb in size. i am not sure if this is because the recovery using photorec is not complete. Did anyone use this program before? You cannot enter the folder coz of restrictions, is this the reason why the mp3s are only a few kb? so do i havte wait for the whole process to complete before accesing the folder to see the real size of he mp3?or is it that its just corrupt? the things is that the process is going to take another 22hours. If anyone used this program to recover im sure you know what i mean when i say you cant access the folder. I dont know if the restrictions will be changed once the procedure is complete. The only way i managed to get into the folder was by getting the gksu admin thingy lol sorry i forgot the name of it and im kinda new to linux programs. If anyone used photorec program to recover mp3s please shed some light on the matter.

lol thanx digip i cant get any hiren to work, so i doubt the ubcd would work, i dont have a ubcd. The iso of it was on my trashed hdd haha. So far im running the photorec from ubuntus terminal it picked up 39 mp3s but its all messed up ones so i changed some setting and am trying again. When its done ill let you know the outcome

just a thought doesnt a firewire port give of enough power to supply the hdd?? coz if it does then he can easily cut the cable and join it to an old firewire cable

Ok i got a laptop and thats it! No pc's nothing, i only got a laptop please don't judge me lol... I hope you can understand exactly what happened because i messed around a lot with the partition tables so try to understand and please tell me what can be done from ubuntu. Ok i have one hdd and partitioned it like this: i had xp on c (20Gb) and all my music on d (30Gb) and 2gb raw. Then i wanted to install vista ultimate and ubuntu but keep D in tact. So i formated c and installed vista but i needed more space for ubuntu so i used partition magic and borrowed space from c so now it looked like this: C (17gb) 3gb raw then D 30 gb and 2gb raw But now i wanted more space so i took a gb from d so that joined to the 2Gb. I started up my computer and boot ubuntu and wanted to begin installation, but i only seen the end 3gb, so i went back to vista and checked out partition magic and figured that maybe i should join the raws to make one 6Gb raw, so i shifted the whole d next to the c so the middle 3gb could join the end but instead of doing that it joined the d. Now i discover that my D is not readable. So i try to undo everything but obviously cant, so i decide that the only option is to make everything one partition and format it so i can try to just recover all my music. So i delete all partitions and format it. Now i got one ntfs partition with nothing on. I boot from an external hdd running ubuntu coz i dont want to risk overwriting anything on the other hdd, so now i got two externals. One is the ubuntu and the other is my music one. Now i downloaded testdisk but i need a command that will allow me to recover my lost mp3s on my hdd that is now in another external enclosure

Your pc sounds more then capable of handling a start up and to me 12 minutes is wack. If you using xp then try to get an xp tweaker i forgot what the name of the program was. I had the same issue when i ran xp on a p3 it took forever to boot to the desktop. Disable services that are not needed. Uninstall software that you installed that isnt important. Oh and benchmark your hard drive, for all you know your hdd might be a lil old now and not running like it use to :P... Other then that the only SURE fix i can think of is reinstall the os

well correct me if im wrong but it sounds to me like you just want to try out linux for the first time to see whats it about and to get a good feel of it. I suggest you start of with dsl or in full, damn small linux... its about 50 mb and it will fit on a flash so it can allow you to boot from the flash...alternatily u can even run dsl as a shell in windows

well then i can only think of setting new static ip addresses and setting a whole new work group... obviously it will need restarting of the computers.... again i must state this all i can think of, lol not because there arnt other options but because its like 12:33 and i need to be up early tomorow haha so my brain kinda sleepin alrdy

yeah it seems like a good idea.... i always was fascinated in the running of an os from a usb. Unfortntly i only got a 1gb flash and needed some files from server 2003 to get bartpe to make me the filesystem for xp to go onto my fash....so i was never successful in booting an os from a flash, well except for damn small linux that is.... Wen i got the time im going to try some really mad things with os on flash like a mac on a flash booting on a pc :D

well just a thought, maybe u could scan the lan u on and then see what ports and so forths u can close. Try getting a firewall (obviously freeware, since seeing u not geting paid for this) and maybe an av. mmmm what else can you do?try setting a password on the bios and disable booting from cd so that no1 can crack passwords of the computer by means of live cd's. Create seperate accounts and hide the admin account. oh and use gpedit so that u can set policies of the whole network, but gpedit sometimes takes a while to set up its policies on every computer so youd have to try to force the policies. Set policies such as removal of cmd/task manager. check internet setting on gpedit and well theres alot u can do there so its up to u.... You said u wantd ideas to secure the computers so thats just my ideas...im sure alota ppl will fill in whatever i left out

Y dont u just scan all computer linked to ur router then block the IPs that arnt urs and turn mac filtering on and upgrade to wpa and use a freakin long password so its harder to crack the password and log all events so if u think he still on and checkin stuff out then u can call the cops on his ass.... but i still say u shud unleash the sprinklers on him hahaha
