  9. ok so this idea just popped in my head but what do you guys think about this? You know you get all these sites that got a bunch of how to's on a certain topic, well i thought why don't we have a how to section, we can put it under projects. This way when a person does something cool or maybe needs help with something then they can post it under the how to section and each post will start off like how to "so and so" and in the post the person will write a step by step guide on how to do what ever he/she did. In other words we can have well written step by step guides to help out in any projects that a user may want to undertake, also if a person were to google how to "whatever" then he would find a link to hak5 and that way we would get more people joining, of course we would need a new admin for the section so that would be decided by the hak5 team. Anyways whats your peoples views on this?
  10. Lol this is very obvious dont see why you made a post about it, but anyways maybe someone else would find this helpfull ;)
  11. Which means if i format the computer then i have to do the whole download again when reinstalling, wouldnt the three be a better option?
  12. Yo Vako i would have sent this message to you personaly but your inbox is full lol anyways, im thinking FreeBSD can help me gain a better understanding of Linux. But now i need to know what version should i get, should i get the latest? And im seeing this at the latest version File:7.0-RELEASE-i386-bootonly.iso File:7.0-RELEASE-i386-disc1.iso File:7.0-RELEASE-i386-disc2.iso File:7.0-RELEASE-i386-disc3.iso File:7.0-RELEASE-i386-docs.iso File:7.0-RELEASE-i386-livefs.iso Should i download all three disks and leave the livefs and bootonly?or should i download vice versa? Oh and if i download just the three disks is there a way to join those iso files to make one big one so i can put it on a dvd?
  13. do you know where i can get an ebook for mcp?maybe ill go write it too,i wanna write as many things before the end of this year :D
  14. Just a thought on my previous post, would this work?because i think its an excellent idea. You create a program that sends all the files that should be sent, all payloads etc. But these files need to be encrypted (to avoid detection) somehow and should to nothing but just hide. Once the computer is switched off and on again this is where it all happens. The program should kill the av before it can startup and enable self protection, such as in the case of Kaspersky, after which all payloads etc are decrypted and run. Sorta like a logic bomb, hows that for an idea?you think it would work?
  15. wow vako looking at your post, its almost exactly what i wrote, but i cant prove that coz well i stated my problem :( as 4 sebrown dont try to rush into too many things at once id suggest you just have fun take it a day at a time. Do some pentesting as a hobby, learn a lil about server management, read a lil mcse and go write it if you want, atleast you know you'll be certified while having fun gaining knowledge, besides that mcse is not as hard as people make it out to be. Like Vako said delve into server 2003 and i think you can get a copy of 2008 from microsoft site, its just a trial. Me being a linux fan i must say that 2008 is really impressive, its got some nice security features. As for linux go into redhat or other server os based in nix. Id also suggest you get a copy of DVL so you can learn more about security. Oh and dont call urslf a noob, because im sure you got more skill then alot of guys that think they leet. I mean seeing that you got knowledge of javascript/php sets you on a good foundation. Nowadays i dont use that word on myself, not because im skilled but its just that i believe the first part to not being a noob, is to stop calling yourself that, and get off your ass and try to make a move in the direction you wanna. Have fun read articles on the net, watch videos and try out what you think would be good to learn. Remember the choice is yours take it step by step... Hope that helped ^_^
  16. i dont know why but i hate vista its as if they tried to hard,i like xp better. But on that, is there any application on linux that uses voice recognition like on vista?
  17. id say if you really gona do it then make some pentester with hak5 writen all over and stick it on a usb make it really tiny :D hahahaha
  18. I was gona comment and say its been posted before coz i remember seeing that site but i wasnt sure of my self
  19. except for the obvious fact that its piracy, why would you wanna download something so big. Maybe you guys have faster connection so it doesnt affect you but with me if i downloaded files like a gb or more it will take me days. I dont see why i should keep my pc on for so long just to download some game that i can go buy. Maybe they give a THREE TIME warning for people like you coz they know you just wont listen the fisrt time. Sorry if im being a little hard on you guys but seriously if you get a warning maybe you should just stop
  20. well other then the whole ATM thing you can still put in passwords when you login to a site and they wont pick up. The method is simple!Just use a onscreen keyboard when putting in passwords or sensitive info. This is good to render a standard keylogger useless too.
  21. argh damnit my internet cut earlier and i sent a LONG post now im just upset and cant type it again so ill just say i second vakos post
  22. The task bar thing i dont know whats happening because mine is full size maybe your option "expand" is not ticked. try this: Right click the task bar a.k.a panel, click properties In properties make sure the expand option is ticked then click ok.If that doesnt work then lol i dont know As for the problem with music and stuff you may want to have a look at Amarok or Rhytmbox i love both of them so i would recomend both and if you need visuals for it then let me know and ill show you how to install it Ok so the next problem is flash. Well i think you have to goto Applications>Add/Remove Once you in there search for flash and Install the following Macromedia flash plugin Gsteamer ffmpeg video plugin Ubuntu Restriced extras (You may need to set Universe and all others in your repository) As for your last problem i dont have a webcam so i dont know how to do it lol sorry about that Anyways hope that helped
  23. Graphics: Compiz, Awn, and some kind of dekslet application i dont know any names but i use Gdesklets Game: Nexuiz, Warsow, Wormux Office: Open Office, Abiword (i like this coz it opens quicker) Browsers: Opera, FF Irc: Xchat Pentesting: well theres tons so you decide on that CD/DVD Burners: Bresero, Gnomebaker, Acid Moive/Audio Players: Vlc, Amarok, Mplayer, Rhythmbox Antivirus/Firewall: Clamav, Firestarter ** As for the whole partitioning thing just ask RogueHart ;)
  24. From what i read, xorg is your only option, theres some other thing starting with an r i forgot the name but people complain about that method, one complaint being that the settings revert back when the computer is restarted.
