TonyBlack Posted April 26, 2006 Posted April 26, 2006 Me again, bitching about software... Well I've been using nero for a while, and I realy dislike it...I mean wtf is Nero Scout, Nero Home (don't tell me I don't want to know)...I hate when something is running in the background and messes with my registry... I just want to have simple program for copying and burning data to CD/DVD, know of any? Quote
W4RP3D Posted April 26, 2006 Posted April 26, 2006 google is your friend http://www.cdburnerxp.se/ havent tryed it but looks pretty good Quote
stingwray Posted April 26, 2006 Posted April 26, 2006 never had a problem with normal nero. works well and is quite light compared to a lot of programs. Quote
metatron Posted April 26, 2006 Posted April 26, 2006 Yeah, I like and use Nero on my Windows box. Quote
Sparda Posted April 26, 2006 Posted April 26, 2006 I liked nero 6, it was very in the background so to speak. Nero 7 on the other hand... it's very in your face with "I'm going to help you do this weather you like it or not". Fortunatly having far too much experiance with windows for my own good i removed all the crap that Nero 7 gave me, yet kept nero 7 working. One other strange problem I have with Nero 7 is that it refuses to work at all on my computer unless it tell windows to run it under Windows 2000 emulation... Quote
cooper Posted April 26, 2006 Posted April 26, 2006 Nero 6 has an Express and [other. Forgot the name] version. Basically one was for aunt tilly. The other had more buttons and knobs than you EVER wanted to see. It was a bit of the extremes at both ends, but you were able to do what you wanted to. Quote

sentinel Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 i, too have been getting pissed off with how bloated Nero has become. I've been using DeepBurner these days. it's lean, functional, and can even be 'portable'. Quote
SPARTACVS Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 I have Nero 7, and it tries to look too flashy. "Welcome to Nero! First choose your category. Then, pick a task..."= ANNOYING. Plus, giving people motion sickness from the words moving around the page doesn't make it more user friendly. I use Alcohol 120% more often, because it's nice to use the same program for burning that I use to mount stuff on my hard drive. I also like how the UI is styled simply, and tries to look like the Windows control panel. Consistency is good. Quote
Neod101 Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 ... The other had more buttons and knobs than you EVER wanted to see. How many guys do want to see 'knobs' anyway? And speaking of knobs...(here I go again with my almost entirely off-topic yet still related to something already said stuff) there's a shop somewhere in town here called "Knobs and Knockers". Of course they mean door-knobs and those knocker things you see on doors that people use because they're afraid they'll hurt their knuckles if they actually knock. Quote
rFayjW98ciLoNQLDZmFRKD Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 switch to linux and use x rost Quote
Neod101 Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 I use Sonic Record Now because it came with my PC. It's easy enough to use but it seems to like to corrupt files on the cd... although that's just on one of my friends computers which tends to screw something up no matter what it's doing so it's probably not my computer corrupting it... his PC is utter shite and tends to bring out any possible glitch in any possible game or program. Cheesecake Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 I use k3b on linux its quite good IMHO I have tryed nero OEM on windows that was ok but I like K3B better :) Quote
flamesfan Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 burn4free is a good one been using it for years www.burn4free.com Quote
deadbolt9019 Posted April 30, 2006 Posted April 30, 2006 Alcohol 120% is the best. None of the flashiness of Nero, or the bloated size. No nobs, or animations. Strait up burning. I only do iso burns and large file data disks. As far as I know there is no music disk creation or anything of that sort. I still love Alcohol 120 over alot of programs. *****Link to site****** www.alcohol-soft.com/ *****Link to site****** Quote
Sparda Posted April 30, 2006 Posted April 30, 2006 It's main problem is that under the new DMCA is would be considered illegal (Have I herd correctly?). Quote
Neod101 Posted May 1, 2006 Posted May 1, 2006 And Alcohol 120% costs money... not like that'll stop us though. Quote
armadaender Posted May 1, 2006 Posted May 1, 2006 I havn't heard anything about alcohol 120 being illegal. And if so, how? Many of its functions are available in other burning suites as well so that would mean those are illegal as well. And Alcohol 120% costs money... not like that'll stop us though. True, bittorrent it and find a keygen or crack elsewhere. I would pay for it if I had the funds to do so but on a college student budget, beer money has a higher priority level than paying for seldomly-used software. Quote

Meh... screw it, let the yanks have there shinny new laws, we'll just keep on burning and ripping to our hearts content. Until Mr Blair feels unloved and goes for gold here that is... Quote

Ok, I'm moving to Europe, can't take the american, make everything illegal, mind-set anymore. Quote
VaKo Posted May 1, 2006 Posted May 1, 2006 Europes strange... we already have ISP level data retention and ID cards but also the piratebay.org... Quote
Sparda Posted May 1, 2006 Posted May 1, 2006 I don't know that it would actualy be considered illegal, I havn't studdied the bill in any grate depth. However, software that is capable of aiding piracy is considerd illegal (if I understood it correctly). Quote

However, software that is capable of aiding piracy is considerd illegal (if I understood it correctly). Wait, software that is capable of aiding piracy is considered illegal? In all actuality, that would mean almost every program on the market. Web browsers, chat clients, media players. Everything is capable of aiding piracy. Quote
