Im still using mkV stock antennas,but they dont look all that intimidating...........I'm looking for something that could theoretically pwn and appartment complex,or maybe an entire subdivision/ neighborhood? And why are the SMA connectors different than a regular Alfa card's. what adapters do i need to hook up your average SMA wifi antenna? could someone show me a link on amazon? I bought these type of adapters so I can use all of my other antennas that I have collected through the years. I haven't received them yet so I don't know how good they are. http://www.ebay.com/itm/271294732453?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 One thing I have noticed is that you don't need to worry so much about the range, its the throughput of the pineapple that I have a problem with. Too many active connections and this thing slows down pretty quick. I guess it also matters on how many infusions you are running at the same time though. I have a Hawking HSB2 amplifier and a Backfire Antenna from radiolabs.com and it's a dynamite combo for other than mobile situations. I've got the backfire mounted to a camera tripod and with extended cords (and a new SMA Male to RP-SMA female adapter for the Mk 5) I can either bring in signals from two blocks away or broadcast that distance. The antenna has to be either 2.4 GHz or dual band 2.4/5 GHz, or you don't want it attached to your Pineapple. I have no reliable way to test it. I do know it's very directional, very much like a yagi, but without a meter, couldn't tell you the actual gain. As long as it's really sma, and not rp-sma, then it will attach directly to the pineapple. No amp is needed, if you use an amp you'll probably go over wifi spec anyway. ki2k Posted November 17, 2013 Share Posted November 17, 2013 Just a couple more thoughts- the 25 dBi Yagi will be EXTREMELY directional, so aim gets that much more important than with lesser-gained antennas (this applies to both TX and RX). And with amplifiers, you have to remember that they don't just make your transmitted signal huge, they also usually amplify received noise as well so can actually work against you. Its worth learning about antenna reciprocity, antenna patterns and polarity, basic RF math (Rule of 3, rule of 10) and things like allowable EIRP as with that 25dBi cannon, you're going already be illegal unless you turn your power down. Now whether anybody really gives a fig is another story, but better to understand what you're doing with both TRUE output power (at the antenna stub) and EFFECTIVE output power (what comes out of antenna, feed cable, and connectors after gain or loss) in case you ever do have to explain yourself. The better you get in this area, the more you'll appreciate the effect that different antennas have on signal. This is one of the more fascinating parts of working with Wi-Fi for a living.
