wetelectric
Java programmers are the erotic furries of programming This made me laugh.... a lot. classic.... although no way lisp is that high...and ada should be higher but other than that.... can't disagree
armadaender
Oh wow, that was pretty funny. I agree with you about lisp, but I believe VB should be further to the bottom, and how the hell is cobol even on there? I havn't seen that language used since the late-eighties/early nineties. (Sad part is that I have to take a semester course on it next year for my degree).

(Sad part is that I have to take a semester course on it next year for my degree). Cobol is still used for a lot of bank mainframes. You are right though... It is very old. Then again, so is C. I was talking to a woman who works on bank mainframes last year some time. She said a lot of the programs have copyright notices for 1982 in the comments
cooper
The cobol stuff works just fine. I'm actually being told that there's an increase in demand for Cobol programmers. Financial institutions (which is what my part of the company tends to cater to) need to update their programs every so often to either include new laws and regulations, or simply in order to introduce a new product. Trust me, Cobol isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
Bob
you knwo what comes to mind? "so what do you do peter?" "i update bank software for the 2000 switch" yaya office space! i ahd a friend who was good at python.
tabath
COBOL is the language I'm most at home with - did a couple of years with it in the eighties.

Makes me feel better. If I have to pay around 400 bucks (us) for a cobol class, I better be able to use it in a real world setting or be more desirable to an employer because it was part of my college experience. metatron
I still use COBOL, not very often but it comes in useful from time to time.

PoyBoy
perl programmers usually do feel superor to python programmers. Personally I like python better. (standard bittorrent client is in python. It susck, but no body did it with per, I guess)
metatron
I’m a ASM and C man and know a large about of programmers and if I was honest, we do look down on people that don’t know them.

Question: What does ASM have over C?
metatron
It's quicker, cleaner and all rounds better in a lot of tasks to name a couple of things.
harrison
This is halarious. However, I am a firm believer of using the correct tool for the job. You can't use LISP and ASM for everything, heh. But it's certainly true that LISP coders are rather pompous. Of course, I'm a C nut, and I have (from time to time) talked shit on C++ among other languages, haha so I can't really talk. wetelectric
yup if you do asm +C you can pretty much piss on anyone...
