I have a few such as "Secrets of a Super Hacker" and "Steal This Computer Book, What They Don't Want You to Know About the Internet", but they are both very outdated and weren't really that good in the first place. I was hoping that some of you out there in hak5 land might have some suggestions. Pleas provide links to any books or tutorials if possible. Just search amazon and you can find TONS of good techno books !! I have only read one chapter, *and havent had time to read the rest* but I can say it's at least a damn good first chapter. It basically goes into rather decent detail about some wild and large hacks that a few choice hackers have done, and why or why not these hacks are possible today. Supposedly all the hacks are in fact true, from hackers that kevin himself handpicked, interviewed and grilled to ensure that it is as true as possible, except some people names are changed for the obvious reasons. Also this book makes you think about things such as security and possibles vs. impossibles of everything in your own life and even where you work. The first chapter was really interesting to me because it is about stealing money from casinos, and I work in a casino so that made me think about things with work. It also entices you to notice certain aspects at work and you find alot of vulnerabilities in the process *though I have really found none where I work, but then casinos are tougher to steal from now then walmart*. Really good book, and @ $25 from amazon hardbound, it's a steal. oh yeah and obviously if you read my sig/quote then you know how he rolls. I will say this though. ***disclaimer*** I do not condone piracy etc. *** With that said I can tell you that if you may or may not want to find a great wealth of hacking related books and you may or may not want to check alot of them out to see which ones are good without buying a whole bunch of em' then you may or may not want to go to your favorite bay site that is associated with pirates that may or may not really be associated with the kind found in "the pirates of the carribean" and if you possibly do or do not want to search for a torrent file that may or may not be found with the words "hacker" and may or may not be joined with the word "ebook" Just my 2 cents.. oh btw, eviltechie, this is the second post today you said dont read the book, I take it you didnt like it so plz explain. Although it's old and more of a novel than an instruction book it does give some insight into the administrator and law enforcement mind. It's a fascinating (true) story about hacking in the days of modems and KGB spies, written by the (mostly unprepared) sysadmin at Lawrence Berkeley Lab who tracked the hacker. It isn't an instructional-type book, but it is a great read - I can't recommend it enough! (This book also introduced me to the smiley face for the first time, in about '91. ADM1NX Posted January 20, 2009 Share Posted January 20, 2009 The art of deception mostly covers social engineering, which can easily get by any security in place if your target is not properly trained. It uses many business situations as examples because you can lie to anybody over the phone to circumvent any network or physical security. I am looking forward to getting a copy of both of Kevin Mitnicks books. When I saw them at the book store I wanted to grab them and run like hell and find a quiet place to read unfortunately I didn't have the cash to spend that day :( I have read some of "Hacking Exposed" 2nd Edition and liked what I read of it.
