  1. Well just bought a new dell for the kids - first new purchase that will come with vista preinstalled. All my other computers are either running linux, win2k or winxp. I haven't used vista before so am considering leaving it on there. My questions are: Is vista past its teething phase now? Any links for reading I should do Vista , securing it, what utilities I should be loading and how to set up? Any advice greatfully appreciated from a vista newbie
  2. Just wanting to pick the brains of any1 in the UK who has recently purchased a desktop. Looking to spend about £300 to £400 for a desktop with monitor for kids playroom. They're 10 and 7. It needs to have a nic as I plan on connecting it up to the home network . I ileaning towards a dell at the moment but as I haven't purchased a puter for at least 3 years wanted to see what u guys came up with. Cheers! Oh and happy new year!
  3. I am liking f1 more now that hamilton is around- there is actually more "racing!!" and overtaking and its not as much as a procession as it used to be. From the sounds of the complaints coming from half the drivers thought they shouldn't be racing - they seem to want it to be boring - fact is motor sports are dangerous and if you can't cope with it you should get out. Saying all that the FIA bias for Ferrari is unbelievable!!!!!!!!! Some of the FIA staff are obviously taking backhanders and are at the very least amateurs
  4. Gotta say eclipse is the bees knees
  5. If you're here to learn and not just to be given answers of course you would!
  6. Thanks for the links Valkyries -will follow up and have a read. I am still actually working on this project - looking to develop something comercial from it eventually but for now its just for personal interest.
  7. Would love to apply in the other sign up topic but afraid I can't find it.
  8. Any1 following this course - Just started to myself and it would be good if there were others to bounce ideas off / ask for help /give help etc.
  9. A good approach to this type of course which is covered on a weekly basis(ie:3 lectures and an assignment and reading each week) rather than having a start date for each iteration of the course(have a start date for the first run obviously) is to set up a subforum for each week of the course along with wiki entires and/or web pages so people can jump in and out when they have time. Have a number of regular irc times available to fit various time zones - I know there are other web technologies that could be used but this is a good start. Then people who have done the course or are even just a few weeks ahead can act as mentors/peer helpers as well as any regular course admins.

  11. It would be interesting project to see if this could be done. Somewhere you could pull together and set up classses based on online courses/material.
  12. Yeah , where did Amish go??? Probably still jumping off rooves and stuff.lol
  13. hehe- yeah with little sticker to put on your forehead!!;P How about a regular weekly class irc channel - make it a bit more formal where peeps know they can turn up and there will be others there who are involved- rather than jsut going to the hak5 irc on an ad hoc basis hoping someone is gonna be there?
  14. I don't think the cert matters although an unofficial Hak5 cert for completing the course might be fun? I'll help if theres anything I can do
  15. I'm down for this , have done undergrad programming modules before in pascal but that was a while ago so would love to see have methods have moved on.
  16. Yeah I'd love to do this course but agree if we could implement some sortr of community structure to develop this as an open course with peer involvement that would be great. Again the linux basics course springs to mind as an example of this that could be taken further

  18. Glad to hear the failbus is back in its garage now and no one will be getting on it anymore Darren. Hope to see you knocking back a few becks with Wess on screen occaisionally now.
  19. Wess - nicely said, also thought despite the form of your resignation (and I thought it was quite diplomatic) it was sensible for you to give you side of things in this thread after Darrens post - more likely that this can be put to bed now rather than continue to fester. Hope you two can get it sorted it out between you. Must say I always thought Hak5 was a partnership between you , darren and paul as well. Thats quite often the problem with projects started for fun rather than as a business from day one - nothings written down about ownership and peoples personal relationships have a way of getting entangled in the project ;)
  20. What a complete - ****ole. I agree Vako - lock this thread until DeGrize gets real.
  21. Watch - something else mate - this is a hacking program - even if you are white hat you need to be aware of what is possible !!!!! Oh and of you never heard of dramatic licence with regard to Darren pwning at the coffee shop. Really- typical liberal POV , oh you can't do that its not what its meant for!!!Grow up.
  22. Agreed - and also from a security point of view users need to be aware of what can be done with hardware they're using.
  23. Got to agree with Moonlit and Vako on the moderation issue - it needs sorting now - other mods deleting posts of mods - just about unheard of as far as my experfience goes. To Matt and Chris- couldn't give a toss if you guys end of making a good living out of the show as long as it continues to deliver entertainment - I have my gripes but thats not one of them. Marks out of 10 for 4x01? I'd say 6......at one point a bit more prudent editing would have got rid of some 20 seconds of cockup but on the whole I enjoyed it , well done. Not sure the banter across sets works
  24. Good idea- yes I would avoid London as it will keep costs down - birmingham is good but don't discount either liverpool or manchester as they have better airport links and added attractions in the cities.
  25. Loved it - she was absolutely speechless!!!!!!
