  1. thunderbird -p firefox -p you could also use a plugin from http://nic-nac-project.de/~kaosmos/profilepassword-en.html It supposedly works, but I personally have not tried it. -Manuel.
  2. And Duelus: Good job and have a great summer!. But realize that you never stop learning in life. -Manuel
  3. Yeah, but you gotta realize that soem training programs as was the one you are talking about were aimed for older people who know very little, next to nothing. I just got my AAS degree and 90% of all of the computer related classes I had to take I knew the content very well. Cisco CCNA networking classes were a bit tough only because I had never directly worked with cisco nbetworking, however because I understood most of the basics of networking, I Aced just about every exam. The thing that I did was ask the instructor if I could simply take the class final exams and if I did well on them, I asked if that could be my grade for the class. Every one of the teachers basically did this for me and I had to do very little in class work because of it. All of that just to get the (important) piece of paper that says I know what I am doing... Rules and regulations make it "preferable" for me to have a degree of some kind. -Manuel
  4. Thanks for sharing, Darren! I can't wait to see the rest of the outtakes that didn't make it to the regular releases. Stuff like this needs to be in the dvd -- it aint funny; its fuckin funny! -Manuel
  5. that's a linux command, so you need a linux boot floppy. There actually used to be a prgoram called auotclave, but it has since been discontinued for some reason or another. Basically that boot disk and the script above format the hard drive.
  6. you might want to look at nagios ( www.nagios.org ) mixed with an apache web server, you could accomplish this (I think). It can be setup to email, sms or whatever you want on hosts -- not completely sure about processes list, but I think its possible. I have not installed this myself, however I have seen it in action and it works great when setup correctly. -Manuel

    Hello!

Even if you were telling the truth, one teacher cannot change all of your grades from other classes, so that is just a stupid excuse. If you want to attempt to hack, ask your technology director, not necessarily the "computer lab" teacher. At least in the U.S., as long as you are under 18 or a student in a school (some things don't actually matter if you are over 18 or not) some rights such as not wanting a picture on a system is not up to you as the student. If the picture was published on a web-site other than school information systems or on some other publication such as a school newspaper, then they should have gotten written permission from your parents/guardians. As a minor, you don't have a direct say in it.
  8. I second that. Its not a matter of what your orientation is, rather how you are as a person.
  9. The pronounciation wasn't my idea -- Rather Darren's -- I borrowed that portion from him.
  10. Here's my stab at it... TECHNOLUST (t?k'nó l?st) An aspiration that often produces a intense or unrestrained gravitational pull towards all technological advances man kind produces.
  11. Just ask any kid who "stumbles" upon the local ring back number or the ANAC every now and then. They love to make the payphones ring, while they sit there and wait for someone to come and answer them. I use these "tools", beige box mostly, to help figure out problems with phone lines where I work. I use the ring back number (not sure what acronym this really is) and the ANAC for line location in the DMARC's and pedestals. There are other tools and boxes that are useful and I use them for legal purposes only, where it is necessary for me to use them. So my hat is off to those who knew what they were doing way back when, and provided the docs online for us to read.

    I'm new...

As a sys admin of a school district, I couldn't agree with this more. Well said armadaender! If students simply ask we will provide an opportunity for them to try whatever they want, given that we can watch and monitor everything they do. In the 6 years I have worked here, only one student actually asked, but he never showed up for the scheduled meetings. The kid was probably shocked that we said yes and wasn't prepared to follow through. -manuel
  13. Don't be. That's a sign of weakness, as I have been told a time or two.... Just don't let it happen again, or we'll have to fire you! (from a canon or something).
  14. Leovilletownsquare.com and Hak.5 and once in a blue moon Apple's discussion forums. I used to be on others, but I had to do something to get back enough time for college. On a side note, I receive numerous email lists: Apple's remote-desktop, macos-x-server, and ac-service-news, CU NY's macenterprise, Microsoft Technet, lockergnome (several different categories), igxglobal, numerous mailings from techtarget.com).
  15. How do you choose your content for the shows, besides from the fourms?
  16. This is me a few years back.

    IE lockout ...

Like it or not, a good web page programmer will design to his/her audience, as TomB suggested. Rather than blocking someone from your site just because they use Internet Explorer, make it an article on the front page explaining why people should use something like firefox or Opera. Not to offend you, but use proper spelling and grammar -- spell check is you friend, if you don't know how to spell very well. I think it is a good point to educate others about the flaws of IE, but to refuse access to your site is the wrong way of doing it. If you ever want anyone to take you serious, rather than deny, you educate. That's just my two American cents worth, but it sounds like the other who posted before me have a common agreement.
  18. That's wonderfull news -- Now if Bill Gates would donate 640k to every person that believes this then we'd all still be poor.
  19. On Windows 2000 (fully updated) doesn't launch windows Calculator, but after approximately 2 minutes, IE crashes. The system becomes exhaustively slow for a few minutes, but eventually recovers. Using Firefox 1.5, I get similar results but Firefox doesn't crash -- it hogs system resources though and finally brought up the page after two minutes where I have a check box, but nothing else happens wehter or not the box is checked. Firefox doesn't crash nor does it launch windows Calculator. Intel Celeron 2.6Ghz, 256MB DDR 2100 RAM. Is this a windows Xp exploit only? -Manuel
  20. Did you not read the posts? Your are certainly entitled to your own opinion, but spoof or not, get over it. I didn't really get the whole point of 8.5 (even after watching PP ep10), but I watch with the concept of entertainment with a twist of educational interest. Yes I undertand it was a spoof of the show, but I don't get the concept of PP either. I guess I'm not a gamer, so I don't pay that close attention to those things. that's my two cents anyway, Manuel
