  1. Unless she can install it on the second floor it's not going to do here a damn bit of good. If she puts in in her apartment, it's just going to get the same crappy signal her computer is getting now.
  2. Trees kill wifi. If you can't get above the trees, don't bother. It might work today, but in a few months when the leaves start getting filled out you're going to have issues. Also trees get taller. What works today, might not in a couple years. I've done 12 mile wifi shots, but they were on towers, really tall towers.
  3. The LAN turtle works. It just depends on which chipset your network adapter has.
  4. Depending on how well it's made, it's going to cut the signal in half for each antenna, could be more. You can use them, but you have to design the array correctly for it to work, it's a shit ton of math to get everything right, then you will need the right test equipment to make sure it's right. As an example, the antennas need to be at least a wavelength apart from each other, which for 2.4ghz is 4.92 inches.

  6. Oh. Well if you're using kismet, it will talk directly to your GPS. Don't need gpsd for that. Search for my posts and kismet in the mkv section. I covered this there.

  10. Or, just run Kali as your daily driver. Both my laptops, personal, and work run Kali only. My work one has windows as a vm for those windows only software occasions. Install Kali, set up a new user, log in as that user. You now run it just like a normal Debian laptop.
  11. Here's what one of pfsense's smaller firewalls look like. It's currently serving as the firewall/router for 3 separate networks. 2 are different businesses that share an office space, and a shared public wifi. The offices also have their own wifi, all three wifi's are run off a single ubiquiti uap-pro with 3 vlans. I also have two vpns running from there to my house for access to the public, and my wife's office network. If you've ever played around with pfsense on an old computer, then you know how it works, they use the same software with both.
  12. Correct, because the https sites are looking for that ssl cert that says they're legit. When they don't get it, the browser says screw you and won't load anything.

  15. Set it up with your laptop or desktop first. After that you can connect to the secure wireless you set up before. All the connector app does for android is set up wired tethering and points the browser to the ip address of the pineapple.
  16. Swapping antennas while it's powered up shouldn't hurt it. Leaving an antenna off for extended periods of time will. I wanted to see a pic of the antenna to make sure you weren't using the wrong gender antenna(mk-v). That would be about the same as not connecting one. Having an active ap close by shouldn't hurt it either. There's always an active ap nearby, the device itself. I've seen aps get wiped out by leaky microwaves though.
  17. This may, or may not work, haven't tried yet, since my laptops still use the old naming scheme. sudo ln -s /dev/null /etc/udev/rules.d/80-net-name-slot.rules Might want to make a copy of 80-net-name-slot.rules first, just in case...
  18. They probably just tried it. The compatibility list only lists server components, not desktop components. Not sure how well supported AMD chipsets will be though. Might want to check xen's forums to see what they think.
