  1. I'm going through the Dresden series again. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dresden_Files
  2. Microsoft is EOLing windows 7 pro in October of this year. Better get your new computers before then. I don't see them doing another windows xp style extension with the way they've been forcing home versions to 10. We have several clients that are starting to roll out 10 on their domains. So far, no real work stoppage issues. A few have found no driver support for their printers, but really, it's time to replace the laserjet 4 anyway. My gaming pc is running 10, and has been since the beta. I've upgraded all my wife's business computers to 10, but they're not on a domain. Didn't see the point with only 5 computers and they use google for business for email. Only problem I had there was printer drivers. Found I had to completely remove the old drivers then install the new drivers, after that, no issues.
  3. http://superuser.com/questions/433416/why-do-i-get-general-failure-when-pinging-host-name-on-a-win-7-node-on-the-net
  4. I don't think you can anymore. Used to be able to run linux on the ps2 though. The Air Force bought up a crap ton of them to do some kind of beowulf clustering with them. Ahh, I see this is a new exploit. Sorry, no info on that.
  5. Looks like your wired connection doesn't have an ip address.
  6. ssh into it and show us an ifconfig. I'm wondering if it's an interface name issue.
  7. Well, the firmware needs to have drivers for the Ethernet port, then you'd need to change all the scripts so it becomes the gateway port, and not one of the wifi ports.
  8. Your windows doesn't have the right driver, that's why your picture says other devices. Install the proper driver and it will work just fine. http://www.asix.com.tw/download.php?sub=driverdetail&PItemID=97 Should get you in the right place.
  9. Try a different browser, or disable all the extensions of your current browser.
  10. You must have had an account with someone else that uses the same forum system, or you reused a login account. Once you hit I think it's 5 posts you'll be able to edit your profile info. As for testing your home network, and devices; https://www.kali.org/penetration-testing/openvas-vulnerability-scanning/
  11. Those locks are useless anyway. I've lost count on how many laptops I've worked on with that port ripped out of the frame...
  12. It's okay. I still have a -2 from digininja killing my account by accident for a post I reported a while back.
  13. They can't actively be jammed or blocked. You can build a building with a metal exterior with low-e reflective windows and be perfectly within the law. I work in several of them weekly, we have to turn off our phones because they will get hot from continuously looking for a signal.
  14. https://wifiranger.com/shop/product/53-mini-pack Maybe. I've never used this company, so I don't know the reliability of their products. Mobile networks are kind of finicky. What works in one place, may not work in another. Best to contact the company and talk to someone who deals with this stuff on a regular basis. Most of us here work with stationary wifi installations, which would work, but wouldn't be optimal.
  15. Heh, I used one of those solar powered automagic helmets once. Was doing pretty good until I got my arm between the helmet and the arc, shadow went across the cell and they unshaded. Man that was bright! The newer ones have multiple sensors now I guess.
  16. Awesome keyboard for shells, but that's the only time I can use it. Too cluttered for everyday use.
  17. Why? Wardriving isn't illegal. Connecting to unauthorized access points is illegal. Back when wardriving was new, I used an old Toughbook running various flavors of linux. Left it sitting in the passenger seat, threw the Garmin on the dash, and the antenna was velcroed to the oh shit handle in the back passenger seat. So really any of your ideas will work.
  18. Makes an awesome remote kismet drone! Automagically sshes home to the main kismet server, instant remote wireless ids.
  19. Technically, it doesn't matter. With SMA the pin is on the antenna, so if it breaks(how I've no clue) you just have to replace the antenna. RP-SMA was created for when home style access points started using sma style connectors, same with RP-TNC. It keeps Bob from going out and buying a commercial high gain antenna and sticking it on his linksys wrt-54g then cooking his eyeballs. At least that was the idea at the time. Now you can buy carrier grade wireless equipment on Amazon and cook more than just your eyes. As a side note, your eyes are the most sensitive part of your body when it comes to microwave energy. They don't have the same amount of blood vessels as your skin to pull away the heat.
  20. You can try it, but don't get your hopes up. If I were to try it I'd use one of these. They're a little less expensive. Make sure the free wifi is 5ghz though!
  21. It really depends on what the hardware is at McD's or whatever has the open wifi. I used to live about a mile from one, could see it, but couldn't make a connection, even with a high gain [cough]illegal[/cough] powered antenna. Might be able to work a couple houses down, might only work from across the street.
  22. Long range needs to be both sides. You'd need one on each end. They are great devices, but not for this implementation.
  23. Pretty sure there's f.lux for mac as well. I think they started there. Don't forget to disable it if you do photo editing! The slow shift will drive you crazy.
  24. Should be okay then. If she can, try to get it as close to the main access point as possible, but not directly above it. That end of the house anyway.
