  1. I would like to add in after VaKo, Yes, Mozilla might listen and tighten up, but Adobe has shown it takes an act of god (or ungod) to make them listen. Just look at the MAC/Linux issues that are still going a-rhy, yet they have only alloted a small handful of their team to fixing stuff for these O.S. because its not the big bucks for them. Honestly I don't have to do anything though about the Adobe issues, because there are a lot of alternatives to using flash, just that nary a web developer goes without using it. *would have to say that my hats off to that small handful of developers that are on the linux/mac front from Adobe because they have fixed a lot of issues, just haven't got down to the polish yet, and if there are any of these people (doubtfully but oh well) that read this, My hats off to you and not just for doing what you have done, but also because the company you work for sucks ass, and yet you tolerate it.. w00t!*
  2. wow... from this I smell a 0day coming on..
  3. Sitting on my cooling pad, at idle, here's the temps I have. More favorable sure, but not what I would call ideal with the help of a cooling pad....
  4. So I have had this idea since getting an arduino that I want to make a pov (point of view) display from a case fan. I have an old 120mm fan that still works but lost it's glitter (blue lights burnt out) a while back. While it\\\'s not going to be too hard to do, I am really baffled as to how to get the connections to work from the moving fan to the arduino. Here is an example of what I want to emulate, but I want it completely programmable and ultimately use it as an actual display. Dunno what for yet. Maybe a server for the scrolling information. I was also thinking about making it a sealed design whereby taking lexan and closing in the fan, taking off the propeller (so the motor doesn't have all that stress on it) and putting a chest strap on it to make any tshirt a pov enabled display :) (this is my ultimate goal here) So I am going to at least keep one peice of the propeller in tact to drill the holes for the leds (easy enough for a holder of sorts) but I need to figure out a kind of skid plate connection to get power to the leds. Any ideas on that are appreciative. was thinking of taking a piece of lexan (really thin) cutting grooves into it in a circular pattern and placing thin layers of wire within it for the connections since that way the + terminals of the leds can just ride in the grooves like a record but I know this isn't all that accurate nor stable. Here\\\'s pix of what I am working with here:
  5. Well that's what I was thinking too. Surely it was not getting that hot, but then speed fan shows the same output (just less of it. No support for my hdd temp sensor or mb temp sensor) This is Nvidia's System Monitor I was running. But that was when gaming (albeit not long either). While surfing/etc. here is the temps right now: And it's colder in here now than it was last night... Heater isn't keeping up. I also found by this website (which I have used before and seems fairly accurate) the actual maximum running temp for this chip is 100c http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/K8/AMD-Athlo...L60DAM22GG.html **BTW, no over clock whatsoever.*** My desktop (albeit a lot more cool-friendly) is pretty compairable to the laptop. AMD 5600+ @ 2.8ghz. Aside from the actual ghz, everything architectually is almost the same between the two (minus hdd/vid crd) and the desktop runs just like yours @ around the same speeds. The only thing I can think of, is being a really cheap performance chip(s) for the vid crd and proc, it's just a hot runner.. But I have never seen these temps before. My desktop won't get that hot (auto shutdown or lockup before even trying to get near these temps) Truely this is a weird one. While I will say that the temp is almost too typical of the video card, not for a comparable proc. But it runs completely stable. even when I was running sauerbraten it kept it's agility and correctness. I mean I never checked the temps before now, so maybe it is just what it is. Feeling wise, it's always been this hot.
  6. another +1 to Deags. Also, you forgot not just led's but blacklights too! ooooh.
  7. this would be really cool (like rootwarz) but the main issue for me, if I were hosting it, is how do you tie the server to your own infrastructure without letting others see key aspects of your own network. I believe seph was right. It really would need it's own line. Also I would have it where you telnet into a machine to start so that way the isp cant tell what your doing, and make sure no one can bounce back out onto the internet (botz man.. bots) If you could finalize those two issues, it would be gravy! I really wish they had some local things like this in hand (like with your local lug) so that way you could learn at a pace. I have 'played' around a lot with metasploit and yersinia, and even did a mitm once (cant remember the name of it but it's one click hack software 4 n00bs..) I would like to know some of the more key tricks -o- teh trade, rather than being a glorified script-kiddie. XpSp1 FTW! ez2hack. XpSp3 = TOUGH Vista =eh.. Win7 = bsodable atm, but as far as I know that's it.
  8. I wholeheartedly agree with digip and SirWolfgang, repaste your proc asap and video card. I redid the whole bit with my nvidia 8600gts (gpu + memory chips) and while it didn't really make that much of a difference with it.. maybe 1 or 2 degrees difference, but it's piece of mind. My wife's (horrible XPS 200!) was overheating bigtime, and I found the paste was baked dry. Honestly I have seen some pretty dusty psus and cpus in my time, but believe it or not it never really posed much of a problem with overheating (though it's not like it hurts to clean it out) Until then, I suggest a box fan/open case fan assembly :P *EDIT* Update.. DAMN! Never realized just how hot my laptop gets when gaming... Guess I got you beat there Deags but.. this is clean and the whole bit + a laptop no doubt (not overclocked either) though it is an older style nvidia w/8200m g graphics. Fresh alt+tab out of Sauerbraten>default settings/detail @1280x800 *btw, it's colder than eskimo p***y in here right about now* (hmm.. still got that geeksquad warranty.. xbox towel treatment anyone?) :X
  9. Well, for me personally I have the same network card, and in ubuntu it's almost always pointed toward the drivers. For some reason, Ubuntu's built in/repository drivers don't usually support the functions of aircrack-ng, so I just got the tarball and built from source. *btw, make sure you do an 'airmon-ng ath0 start' (if i remember correctly anyways) to put the card in promiscuous listening mode, and make sure you don't have anything else running that will interfere with it*
  10. Damn!!! someone beat me to it.. but really I didn't even think about nat/pat setup, I was thinking you have to set your routes properly to jump from network to network (if on a different network) Never used SDM though, so dunno how that works. Saw pix of it though :P btw, make sure you fortify that router a little!!! here's a little bit that would help.. >en >conf t >li c 0 >password (type the password) >logi >li vty 0 ? (type the question mark to see how many virtual terminal lines it has) >li vty 0 x (with x being the last vty line) >password (type the password) >logi >exi you don't really have to worry about line console 0 (li c 0) cause that's your rollover cable port, but it's always ALWAYS a major + to secure your terminal lines. Any other issues, holla @ me
  11. lol @ sparda. This is true. I really don't like IE though. Have not since they re-vamped the interface. I did hear at least it is a little more secure now than it used to be. I think though that Microsoft should pretty much give it up with ie though. Although I know there is nothing wrong with it being there and it's still a lot of peoples choice browser, it really seems to just give Microsoft more greef than it's really worth imho. Ever since XP SP2, I only use ie once per install, and that *was* to download firefox and make it the default. But in this time of aggrivation, just like with free anti-x software (x being virus/adware/etc), there will come another great software from left field and the process will continue, so more of a question to me, is when it's going to happen and what will it be?
  12. I have to admit (but hate it at the same time) that yes, FF is crap, and is getting browner by the minute. I originally came to the conclusion right after ff3.0 was finalized (can't remember the rev.#). It was ok I guess but not too great. Noticed automatically that extensions were crap.. I still use it mainly on my desktop, but I have switched to chrome for everything else. The only reason why Chrome is good for me mainly is because I don't really use extensions, and it's really light and fast. I also have to agree with rouge spear about flash... especially with the advancements we have had recently with wmv and good ole 264, there is just no real need for this proprietary platform for videos alone, and most everything else can use javascript, java (cringing but it at least multithreads and is faster these days), and other common stuff for interactivity in web pages. I tried opera for a time, but it felt to me like going out with a crippled model.. looks nice, but no dice. (cue the tom green references) :X
  13. Ahh.. Half life 2, lost coast eh? that was a pretty good walkthrough (just wish it lasted longer)
  14. Here it is folks! (can't believe I was the first to post on it) Cheers and happy new years! hmm... come to think of it, I never even used the metasploit install on here...
  15. @bobdole369 - Actually I do thank you for not being childish about it (really not saying I thought you would, just that that was what I was waiting for from some random person). And yes, there is nothing healthy about being addicted to anything, much less nicotine, but I feel that this is a better way for me. I do have a goal in mind of ultimately quitting, and it's going to be a device that I will use to quit, but in the beginning I am going to use it just to ween myself off of cigs themselves, and the main thing about it is this, when you had a cig, what did you smoke? full flavor, lights, or ultralights? If you smoked even lights and tried ultra lights what happened? It was more aggrivating than anything because it didn't taste the same, and you felt like you got nothing but air from it, but with these, I can drop my nicotine doses by buying lower dose smoke liquid, but keep the same feel and flavor. Of course I will notice the drop in nicotine regardless, but for me it's about the slow small steps. Once I get to the point where I am at the lowest amount of nicotine, I can get juice that still tastes the same and gives a good throat hit, but with no nicotine. After that, it's just a matter of losing the physical habit, instead of the chemical and physical addiction. Cause for me it's just too aggrivating to deal with all 3 addictions at once. A lot of non smokers as you know, don't realize how powerful it is because of all 3 addictions that surround smoking. And I do applaud you for stopping. I could not imagine how it must feel not to want or even not feel like I need a cig every 2 hours, and that is a wonderful feat. But at the same time we all have different ways of getting to the same goal. For me, I know the e-cigs work... just being that the damn thing itself keeps working (i.e. cheap ass throwaway e-cigs suck). So once you switch to an e-cig it is kind of odd. But you lose the bad breath and smoky smell. At the same time, you also lose some of the other addictive additives that are in cigarettes. Nicotine is just part of the equation. That's why there are a lot of people who try quitting/cutting down by smoking black & milds because the same chemicals aren't there, but the nicotine is, and for some that's just enough to handle. Once that is taken care of then I will knock down the nicotine without losing the taste that I want, and then finally, all I have to do is put down the device itself. And as far as convenience, once you buy a bunch of smoke liquid, you have months worth of a supply at your fingers so it's much more efficient to do. So what I am gaining up to, is even know it's not the best way, it's my way, and in a way that I know will work and be manageable for me, and ultimately will be the end of my smoking/nicotine habit, which for me right now is completely unfathomable. And if at the end I fall off, then at worse I am just smoking fog juice... When you fall off from analog smoking and go back to just 1 you open yourself right back up to the addiction (I have tried quitting at least 12 times that I can recall, all failures) But ultimately I have to say cheers to you brother for quitting your addiction and I hope that someday soon I can say the same thing about myself.
  16. Not going to lie, it's not easy, but the three things I can tell you is 1. Study hard, 2. Don't lose sight of your goals, and 3. NEVER let yourself get discouraged (I find this is the #1 thing that leads to either bad grades and or dropping out. Don't give yourself this option and you will be fine)
  17. Actually I have already tried it once, but it was a really cheap throw away set just to see if you like it. Yes it is not quitting, however, it's a lot better for you (cue the nicotine police). I am lazy. I know I will not quit smoking, however, I can at least switch the addiction to something more healthy. When I used the cheap ones in public it was actually a very positive thing. It got a lot of attention, and more questions of how it works and where others could get them rather than questions of why don't I just quit. There are thousands of carcinogens in just one cigarette, in smoke liquid, there is none (nicotine in itself has never been shown in any tests to be a carcinogen, nor has it been shown to alter the functions of the body any more than a cup of coffee). If you think about it, regular smoking is horrible for your body cause it's basically like standing over an open smoldering fire every 30 minutes to an hour, where as with an e-cig, it's just like being in a room that has a fog machine (exact same concept, and chemicals, only smaller). Well since I know I am not going to quit any time soon, I do know that once I do quit It's not like I will have hurt myself anymore in the long run.
  18. Happy new years everyone!!! This year for me personally is going to be a very big year. I am graduating college, getting a *REAL* job, and getting some certs (finally) What do you have planned for this year? I know of one thing that is sure to be big for me this year, here's a little video I made... Happy Arduino New Years (with blinkys)
  19. you could at least use the guts of it to make something fun
  20. Yes, this is true. I don't believe there is ANY reason not to run a 64bit os at this point, especially because almost all (if not all) apps are ported by this time, and if it's one particular app that is not, then you should just find another app to do the same work anyways.
  21. lolz at "i am a true hacker fan, how dare you sir" so.. um.. I have two points on this quote: a. the question of is she a hacker herself b. we have fans!?!
  22. same here. i'm going to try my best to 'unplug' for the day @shonen - yah, I gave up on giving up smoking quite some time ago. I am however going to give up on analog smoking (see here: http://store.vapor4life.com/
  23. lawl. mine's 1680x1050, and i dont intend on changing it (unless it's 1920x1080!) My new years resolution is to not have one :X

  25. man that article is OOOLLLDDD.. It would not be comparable to today's linux kernel. With how fast the kernel grows and transforms, there is just no side by side comparison with today's 32 and 64bit kernels. Surely though the thought process (or at least mine) should present a difficult conundum, but one that can be explained and finalized on the issue.. 32 bit kernels should be faster because of the amount of code processed at one time (32bits or 1/2 the amount of data per clock) is half that of a 64 bit code. However, that really depends, because theoretically, the only way it WOULD be faster is to take say, in a quad core 64 bit system and make 4 more virtual cores to compensate for the fact that 32 bits would only be using 1/2 the processor, and of course a processor only works at the speed in which it is set at. It is not variable upon single lines of code. But a 64bit processor running 64bit code, may not be able to work as fast, BUT works double the efficiency which in turn could translate to a faster running processor. As far as I can tell though, 64 bit windows platforms perform just a tiny bit faster than a 32 bit windows platform. BLAH! My brain hurts now :X
