  1. My technical first was the C64. It's LOOONG since gone, but here's a pic of someone else's (as if you didnt already know what it looks like :P Had a tape drive and 1 game. Centipede.
  2. Sounds like something I have to try. Cookin' up a hearty batch of Arch n xfce right now :) Hell actually liike slike I might ** get this one to work fully this time around side note: Times I have unsuccessfully took a shot at installing a good arch system(4 times)
  3. Thank you Sparda! Actually after some thought that would be a conundrum. Over anything, the video driver scheme would be hell. For the most part, hypervisors do seem to support hardware on all aspects EXCEPT the video, but then the issue would persist, that unless you have two video cards with one os assigned to each one, with one driver running on top of some passthrough driver for the hypervisor itself, it's next to impossible. Actually on the hot swap scheme I thought that it would be cool for some sort of implementation of the hypervisor itself handling the usb/firewire/etc. to just display a general overlay over the currently displayed vm asking which one the hot swapped hardware should be assigned to but which would require something like a passback driver for each vm to communicate directly with the hypervisor. Oh well, it was a pipe dream of sorts, but this would be a really kick ass alternative to dual booting.
  4. Ok. So I know about esxi, and xen for bare metal hypervisors to SERVE desktops and servers to other computers via the network, but what I am looking for is a bare metal hypervisor that serves multiple desktops on the same machine. Is there something to this effect somewhere? Or is it possible to do this on an existing hypervisor? My reason being, I want multiple desktops with the fastest available speed that can be switched between back and fourth as if it were virtualbox sitting on top of linux with the cube enabled or the wall enabled. Now I could go this route if nothing else exists, utilizing a minimalistic linux w/just virtualbox but I would like to get the fastest multiple desktop/one box system available. As always any help is appreciated.
  5. Thanks operat0r! But I think I am good.. Still can't get Chrome to build, but I think it's only a matter of time, and I am not THAT tech/programming inclined. Only thing I really have as an issue, is that it locks up here and there if left on. I think it has to do with jank drivers running for the sound card, but not sure. Oh well, no biggie
  6. Well I am personally into the hard house mixed with trance, and industrial techno-rock/metal ie. like Nine Inch Nails (btw, seems Trent is coming out with an album soon. Everyone on that site is confused cause they don't know if it's NIN as a regular album, a 'ghosts' album(mostly instrumental/no lyrics), or what Trent said before the last NIN tour was over which was that the next thing that comes out is going to be "something not nine inch nails" I find myself to be getting into a lot of hip hop these days too. Really helps me keep focus. Also a few that might help you out (but im sure you have heard before if your into hip hop/tech-rap) is the black eyed peas, some old school digital underground, that new york song that just came out with alicia keys and what's his name :P just to name a few. Also a newer chick that I listen to lately is La Roux. She likes to cover a lot of 80's tech/rock and um.. prince.. yeah. but it sounds good when she sings it :P
  7. I think it would be interesting just booting from an iso. maybe instead of deleting everything just make the cli a game that keeps score of your successful commands, and if you mistype, it dislays "Game Over" and restarts your point count or deducts from it and posts online. Hm... sounds like an interesting app.
  8. I like your icons and your conky though.
  9. Well, here's my new found PC-BSD 8 desktop :)
  10. @VaKo - That's something else I always heard about freeBSD vs. openBSD. And I finally got around to learning how to install port apps. and port into port. This does seem easier than ubuntu :X Well that is until something breaks and I am sitting here wondering where a config file is when it's not where I am used to it being but the differences between the BSD and the Linux folder placing isn't too terribly different. @bmwracer0 - I did think about Aqua, but was not sure if Aqua handled the actual code for the windowed apps or if it just rendered the windowing system and Darwin handled the underlying code. I know nothing about Mac...
  11. Wow, it's so suprising that the way I posted this idea from someone else's blog especially for a specific purpose (if you didn't read it the first time, I suggested it would be a great game for a con) that everyone thinks it's dumb. Oh well. I still think it's a great idea. Well here's another one to add to your dumb posts: how about an electric chair that kills someone everytime firefox crashes? At least it has a good purpose.
  12. Horray! Well.... boo for loosing his job(not to him but his previous employer) but yay! to the fact that we now have confirmation that DK is going to go exclusive to hak5 :D
  13. HAH! you talking about the russian thermite guy.. Can't remember his name, I think it was cerzies or something. I remember him giving a talk on how to find "wahhrez" (warez). Hillarious.
  14. This is pretty awesome to think about. Imagine it as a game. Would be fun for a con. Suicide Linux
  15. QUOTE (VaKo @ Thu, 25 Feb 2010 19:21:52 +0000) * 1: Do not install PC-BSD. I lol'd. Yeah. I have always heard a little bad mojo about PC-BSD, but it actually has turned out quite nice. The only problems I have had doesn't even really have anything to do with BSD at all. (kde weather widgets that are broken.. I read up and everybody on KDE4 is having this problem. oh well, it's just a widget) I am suprised at myself though when it comes down to liking the KDE4. I hated it when it first came out, but now. eh, not so bad. I'll tell you one damn thing though, Sauerbraten runs like butter churned w/0w10 oil on this thing! You can definitely tell the TCP/IP stack is superior, and the memory management is awesome. Also the (few) quick installable apps are a breeze. Thinking I have found my other Ubuntu.... The real upside, I think looking at myself now, I am stuck to the cloud for most things anyways, so I think I'll stay and play on this PC-BSD, but I am definitely going to get virutalbox now and learn on me some Free-BSD. Oh! one more thing. Since BSD is sort-of a little bit of OSX, is it possible to run OSX apps? I know that's a little far fetched, but I have seen where a lot of people have asked this question just to not get an answer.
  16. Ok, so a nice little tip to all of you just FYI.. If your going to install ANY distro you are not familiar with to the physical HDD READ UP ON THE INSTALL FIRST!!! So just in case you don't know where this is leading, I have had my eye on BSD for a while, and even downloaded FreeBSD once and tried installing in Virtuabox, however it was a long lengthy process, didn't feel like finding EXACTLY everything to install, so I just said hell with it. Day-Before-Yesterday, I saw PC-BSD 8. Looked bad ass, and since everyone has always ooohe'd and aahhhe'd at how stable and universal BSD is, I figured eh.. Why not. Tried it in VirtualBox, but it seemed too restrictive for the little beast. Was going to use it as a server on a new/used 3.33 Celeron D that I just obtained but it didn't like the fact that it had 512mb, and I'm not seeking to upgrade it anytime in the near future. So that was out. Ok I said, I'll install it along side Windows.. No big deal right? Well, here is where my dillema really started... So the install was superb. Sweet, short, to the point. Really nice to look at. And also really quick and easy... Unfortunately what I DID NOT KNOW about PC-BSD (or any other BSD as I have read), is it does not.. I mean ABSOLUTELY DOES NOT play well along side Windows. But that's not REALLY my problem. Unfortunately it seems, regardless if you select the little button "Use Entire Disk" or not in the partition manager upon install, it takes off ALL the partitions and leaves you with what it put on. Furthermore, something I didn't know before hand, if installing at all on a physical disk, make the partitions out of the BSD installer First, and then select them in the installer interface. So the fortunate thing here is this: Everything that I even really cared about is backed up on a separate hard drive.. No problems there. I was going to BACKUP and then reinstall 7 soon anyways... Ok, well that was a little sooner than expected. And to top it all off, I will say that the smoothness of the OS and the cleanliness of KDE 4 on it is awesome. Configuration is actually easier than Ubuntu for most things (crazy to think... cause BSD has always been the configurators worst nightmare). However now that I have it on here, I really don't feel like redoing the whole install process. Yes I am lazy. But is there anything extra I should know about BSD? I know there are few and far between supporters for BSD, but if any general users of it have any suggestions on software give me a hollar. The major downside to this for me is actually just that I have to mess with it a little to install Chrome on it, but no biggie. Ok. [/rant]
  17. Matt basically got a bump up in his job I believe, and he kinda got tired of doing the Hak5 show, + he wanted to move out and do his own thing. I don't think it had to do with any tension between DK and snubs.
  18. :o OMG! I never thought about it, but maybe you are right! I seriously doubt there will be another ep. of the broken, BUT with Kev being such a Mac maniac, maybe cracking windows boxes would get some of his attention and re-broaden his excitement on that level. Kevin was always Mac fanboy #1 btw. If you ever watched the ep.s he was on when he was on G4 back in the day, Kev was always displaying his mac love. And there was definitely a reason why The Broken was left alone after the small amount of eps. It had to do with of course border line illegality and being such a widely known person now, it wouldn't take much to get some big corp. to sue him on the specific types of things him and what's his name would do on that show. Sure you could say the same about Hak5 any day, but Hak5 is specifically for education, not for malicious intent (yeah I know, but it sounds good anyway). Furthermore, Digg is Kev's baby that he started right before G4 gave him the can, and since it's grown so big, that's all he really has time for. On the other side of the coin, he was also ONE (but not the original) of the founders of Rev3, so every last bit of time that wasn't for Digg went into that, and as of now he's sitting pretty nice I would say but TBH I would have to think he get's bored of Digg (or will sooner or later) after all this time, so maybe this would be a good facet for him to fixate on. It would be a really REALLY kick ass idea to have at least one Hak5 ep. in the style of the (og style) of Diggnation. Unfortunately however, I really don't see Alex getting any of his rox off in that schema though :P Also I want to add... If we took Darren and Kev, stuck them in a shitty apartment with a bunch of bad ass hardware and penetration and mod tools, gave them a shit ton of liquor, and filmed the whole thing over a week's period... That would be the most EPIC Hak5.Broken idea EVER
  19. Oh yeah, there will. Darren explicitly said that in the last hak5 ep. The only thing that is really in the air at this point is how he is going to be able to pump out technolust every week. So maybe one or two weeks, it's behind one week. NP in my book.
  20. Whatever does end up happening, I feel at least us as a community will still be here. Hell probably about half of us forum folk watch the show only from time to time anyways, but regardless of that, I believe there will be a Hak5 for quite a long time. Heck, DK moving to the West Coast only seems to make me think of one thing.. A new Hak5 set @ the rev3 studio! Which may lead to awesomeness.. Also, you know if he moves the show there, then there should always be a co-host, of course I couldn't exactly see Darren talking about Arp spoofing, or EIGRP interception with Andrew Bancroft.. [though hillarity would surely ensue] or linux programming with Kevin Rose, but it would certainly be interesting to say the least, and hell.. Who knows, in the end it could be a good thing :) I really don't think Darren could stand to put the camera down with hak5 honestly. After everything and anything that has happened he has ALWAYS made sure there was a show, regardless of the struggle, and I don't think this is a set back in the least bit. Also, if worse came to worse, maybe rev3's shop can tackle some of the load.
  21. Illustrator isn't too bad, matter of fact, after importing it's just touch up I believe.
  22. Wow dude, you'r pretty bad ass with the freehand. I was never able to come close to that. Now if anyone knows how to use Maya3d....
  23. The main question now for me would be what if they pull the outbound plug on the country's internet (surely there is less than 10 sources out from what you have told me about the amount of data bandwidth) and then just had the major isp's put bandwidth filters on all the incoming connections... Just a thought. But either way, I still think it's really childish what they are doing. Flat chested women need money too ya know...
  24. Yeah, 'top up' cc's are the way to go for a lot of reasons, especially when it comes to anything that looks slightly suspicious or ordering from a new site.
