    Linux top 5

CentOS, Don't really have a explanation.. But I guess I'm a GNOME fanboy.
  2. I'd recommend you get a VERY firm understanding of C++ before moving onto anything other then WinAPI or STL. DarkGDK is also free, Maybe you should try Google? And VC++ Express is also free.. I'm sure you're going to get heaps of people giving VC++ a bad review etc, But It's has the best compliance & debugging.
  3. Yea that's just a image, Not the answer... I used it for a container. But you'll see a ANSI encoded file at the end with instruction on how to provide proof you completed it. And there shouldn't be any encryption on the files (Other then the encryption used to compress the file(s)) Just so you know I made this in about 10 minutes for fun and decided to post it here, I tried to de-encode it last night and even I couldn't do it due to the fact I didn't right any instructions for myself. I removed the first 4 headers in the file & placed the removed information in the .HEX file, So by added that back to the FRONT of the damaged RAR file should solve the problem. I haven't managed to correct the issue though. That's all the information I'm giving you, No you have to go & debug the issue :D Have fun!
  4. Well what ever application you're using to convert the codec/container to a DVD format should support PAL. What exactly is the problem?
  5. DarkGDK is a Game development kit, It's not a compiler It's more of a API for VC++. I'd recommend Primer Plus 5th edition. (ISBN 0-672-32697-3)
  6. Well most compilers will interrupt either. I'm just presuming though..
  7. I can't tell you, I've kinda given heaps of hints..
  8. It's open source so you could always add to it, Or ask the author. (He's a nice guy)
  9. Hah.. I was going to say that, But I figured I'd get some anti-Microsoft Apple fanboy replying.
  10. That's what DarkGDK is for.. And C++ will always be a king amongst languages. You could go and find a open source game engine which has It's own simple scripting language and use that, But you wouldn't make any direct revenue from it... So you're just looking to make some games here and there for friends or..?? And any programming language out there can make "simple programs" It's like asking what car can drive. You're always going to get fan boys which support python & only python etc etc So just do some research & jump in. I just put up a blog @ http://free-vent.com/blog talking about my experience with C++ so go check it out if you're interested in C++
  11. There's one on here, You can specify 3 times. It's in the code challenge thread. (Search)
  12. I'd stick to C++, C# isn't really going to help your career just because there's a large amount of *nix based OS's used for commercials needs. There's heaps of C++ APIs out there to do about anything you want, And if you're looking for game developement you could always use Dark GDK which seems to be pretty open to new comers etc, Or just go straight to Directx or OpenGL.
  13. Haha.. I'm just laughing right now.. Once you've completed it you'll know. It'll have instructions.
  14. www.amsn-project.net For a WLM/MSN protocol client, And everything else runs on Linux aswell.
  15. Thanks, I've already selected which app I'll use, But continue to post though because I'm sure others need the info!
  16. System Admin: File servers, Mail Exchanges, Hardware/Software issues. Network Admin: DHCP,DNS,BIND,Webservers, etc But there's no real standard, You could be cleaning toilets and have the position of System admin.
  17. It'll say if you've completed it within the file, And instructions also.
  18. Well there's always Wine, I've used it before and got most of my applications to work. Or you could always purchase CrossOver.
  19. Thanks for all your replies, I've downloaded Cobian 8 and currently using it for important data, And loving it! (Although the UI seems a little cluttered but It has a low memory footprint so eeh)
  20. Yup, I've already been holding off my new PC for around 6-8 months now.. Gonna wait until they bring out a new series of the i7 architect. And IMO Windows 7 doesn't look like something I'd enjoy using. Seems like GNOME + KDE x 10 of the annoyance/glitter factor. PS I'm a Vista user so you know I'm not a idiotic biased XP user.
  21. You could just get the audio codecs you require and be done with Windows for good? I'd recommend you don't use Ubuntu. It's a script kiddie OS. But if you only want it for useful-ness and don't want to learn much about Linux then go ahead, I'd recommend CentOS (Without any GUI)
