  1. Ah I figured physical separation may have been the best idea, thanks a bundle for clearing that up for me Vako. Looks like its Visio time. XD
  2. Hey Hak5 community, I was recently handed an assignment to design a network for a company and was considering using a virtualization solution much like the one Matt discussed in season 5 episodes 11 for handling all the server operating systems and services required for end users. The company for this assignment needs a couple of publically accessible services such as a web, mail etc and from my understanding these should be placed in a demilitarized zone. I was curious as to if it this is ok (secure/best practice) to run these publically available services off say a Windows 2003 virtual machine configured specifically for IIS, which is situated on the data store alongside the private server VM's running Active Directory etc. I am assuming that if I was to do this I would have to dedicate a physical network card for the virtual IIS enabled machine and allocate a different TCP/IP address to establish the demilitarized zone. To honest I know very little about Virtualization architecture and best practices so my assumption maybe completely wrong. I did do some lurking on google but failed at finding anything that can answer my question for the above. I would greatly appreciate any discussion on the subject or linkage that can point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance.
  3. lol gotta hate the stock standard wifi cards in laptops these days. they suck. BTW if anyone had issues getting the wifi card to work on a dell 1525 working go here Once again props to Bakb0ne he saved me a shit load of headache.
  4. ROFLMFAO @ Keelbugs second patch panel pic. holy shit balls. I would hate to forget where I unplugged a cable from in that setup. Lovin your work setup, you have got some nice toys to muck around with. Barry, real neat setup I like the blue cabinet. XD Your server kicks major ass dude nice amount of removable storage upgrade options. XD
  5. hahaha that so sounds like me, I love wireless and remote desktop.
  6. You have a point but laws are based on ethics. =P
  7. Does that logic still apply for someone such as myself who has a 500mw signal amp, 15dbi omni and 24dbi grid dish antenna? =P Weather its is illegal or not is beside the point, at the end of the day it is unethical and wrong. You can put sugar on shit all you want but it doesn't change the fact its still shit. FYI and yes I am unethical but I don't make any excuses for my actions.
  8. LOL I would go for an off button over a reset switch myself. In any case I thin I just found teh perfect women. XD
  9. Oh yes I do and I share your pain. Networking HP printers never goes accordingly to plan, well from my experiance anyways. A simple 5-10 minute job turns out to be a couple of bloody hours. By the way nice home network.
  10. I really enjoy looking at peoples work place setups, its like being 8 years old again in a candy store mmmmm =3 lol looks like the office's are as messy and lack the work space much like peoples home setups. XD
  11. may I suggest replacing the letter l with the number 1 so the url is www.paypa1.com (thats if you guys don't have better suggestions/it isn't taken already). Securitytube.net did a demo on a script that would search say paypal.com for all the above kind of variations and report back who owns each domain. In some cases the legit web host owner purchases these domain names up to stop such scams while others are phishing sites. Though it was interesting and worth mentioning. By the way when your done post it up, I wouldn't mind taking a look at the finished product.
  12. lmfao Thats not the first story I have heard of where the culprit turns out to be the boss *shakes head*.
  13. On face value its pretty well done and does look legit. The url is pretty slack though and they could have been a little more creative. I remember a myspace phishing site that replaced the m with a r & n so it looked like rnyspace.com. I also noticed a lack of https =P I did show the above to my mother and asked if she would log in, which she replied with yeah why? =0
  14. lol maybe my school should do something like this, two cisco 2500 routers and 2 3600xl switches I believe for a class of 20 students. Fail seeing as the 2500's cant do basic VLAN's properly and the IOS is so old it aint funny.
  15. I am in the same boot as you and am trying to get myself ready for CCNA while I am doing another full time course. I spoke to one of my teachers and a few friends who work in the industry. A lot of places ask for MCSE but these are people who work in HR doing the job postings, from an I.T guy point of view it only proves you have read the books. But in any case its still worth having and looks good with a CCNA. I have also been told that cytrix and sun certification is also handy to have. But I think it all depends on what path you wanna go down. At the end of the day what people really want is experance and a reputation, which is the hardest thing to get.
  16. I just installed ubuntu remix on my asus eee 701 earlier today and this solution was a god send. Saved me a great deal of mucking around. Everything runs perfectly and it is by far the best O.S I have had on the EEE to date. Thanks a heap for this solution mate.
  17. LMFAO fucking tradies *shakes head* that made my day. XD
  18. I agree with lnxr0r the soho route is not a bad idea, from what I have seen most small businesses I have done work for don't really give a toss about firewall installations like smoothwall etc, they are more interested in storage and basic networking solutions. Then again this could be due to me doing most of my work for video/dvd rental outlets. The work is not so steady but when they need a repair they need it right away due to it being a critical component for them to transact, there for you can charge a fair price for your service call. Plus once you have a semi decent reputation established you can design networks and such for new stores that are opening. note: Most stores In Australia use video minder or some franchise produced software for transactions. Setup is a piece of piss and if you know how to setup the rate tables among other shit you can get on going work. I kind of fell into this role a while ago when I was working as a counter clerk and it made for some nice side money. I still do it from time to time while I am doing my full time studies.
  19. great post Vako and I value such advice due to it being from someone in the know and not mentioned at all in educational institutions. thank you very much for the heads up mate.
  20. I concur with digip and not being able to hear the audiance during question time was a touch annoying. All and all its all pretty much common sense but it did contain some really good idea's that made it worth the bandwidth.
  21. Sounds interesting and worth a watch. Thanks for sharing and I shall watch it now. XD
  22. keelbug, nice setup but you really need to invest ina bigger desk, that would so piss me off. I DEMAND WORKSPACE!
  23. lmfao That bigger than my windows program's menu. Well done!
