  1. Thats pretty cool, We only ever made cables once after the first 4 months and I failed pretty hardcore. I only learned a while back when I had to cable that LAB setup I was building. hahahaha that big ass switch doesn't support SDM, let alone IOS. It runs on CATOS. Its a bit of a pain in the behind to use compared to the IOS but seeing as the cisco 4000 only has the supervisor engine 2 its only good for VLANing anyways. I still have most of the stuff I got off your FTP server stored away on my external drive. I did started reading it but got hit with a fair few big assignments. My course was more writing and designing network Topologies than configuring them which is rather annoying. I was gonna do some cisco lab work over the holidays but I got caught up with work and playing around with Server operating systems so that didnt happen. Still have the discovery shit in a folder sitting on my desk. =P By the way I made some new additions to that LAB and spent a fair bit of time re cabling, installing new hardware a week ago. Thanks for the heads up on configuring cable modems, I have only ever did one that belong to a friend of mine. It was a little different to what I was use to but worked it out in the end. Good idea on tools hex especially those cable tidy things, can't believe I forgot about those suckers. lol I used all mine last week...... Thanks again for the advice guys.
  2. reason I asked about the legality is because we have a contract for any A+ work undertaken which basically states we don't guarantee software, hardware (unless we replace the part) and the data on the computer. I know networking is a little different but just figured I would ask to be on the safe side. I was actually pondering over investing cable tester. I just kind of figured I could plug it into my laptop and a switch or something on site and test it with a cable I know that is working. Then again the cable tester will save me a crap load of time. Was also considering using your standard cat5e depending on network cards and devices on site due to cost. Thanks for the tip on making the cables. I will have to do some brushing up on that seeing as Aus and the U.S have different standards for A and B. From memory we are the opposite from you guys. lol I didn this stuff a year ago so its not exactly fresh. I personally hate those configuration C.D's, I find it easier to just use the web gui. Thankfully most of it will be all home related stuff and I wont need to be using a console cable. lol My cisco shit is so rusty, i like forgot everything over the xmas holidays. True true I am not a security professional however my diploma states network security when we did stuff all 0_o wtf? **EDIT** Good point with having a spare USB NIC, I will have to add that to my purchase list. Well if it comes to doing those pain in the ass cable runs through ceilings or walls I wouldn't do that anyways seeing as my work would be an illegal install. Especially in business implementations this is best left to the experts. Thanks for the advice Digip and the info on cabling, never knew some of that. Interesting. oh and hex, that has to be the biggest edit of a post I have ever seen. I will read it after I submit this one. Thanks again guys
  3. I am currently working a few days a week at a small local dekstop/laptop store doing your standard A+ and sales orientated work while I study. Anyways my boss mentioned that he recently has been getting a fair few requests from local home and small businesses for network related work which he previously has never catered for due to the number of staff and not having a networking guy so he offered to swing this work my way which will mainly be done after hours and at a better pay rate (details are still in negotiation). Which leaves me to a few questions seeing as I am use to working at a bench with everything at arms reach and I have had very little real life experience with dealing with networks other than family and friends (previously studied networking for 2 years at Tafe). I am curious as to what tools or software will be useful to take along to sites. At the moment I only have a laptop, usb keys, external hdd, assorted screw drivers and a few spare networking cables. I think I should invest in a RJ45 crimping tool seeing as the one I have is on loan from a class mate. Was also curious as to some legal issues that I may want to be aware of so it doesn't bite me or my boss in the ass down the track. For example I can't legally do data cable installs seeing as I don't currently hold a licensee for it. Any input or life experience on this will be very much appreciated.
  4. hahaha True that we are a bunch of lazy bastards. Maybe we should re coin the phrase to Australia the lazy country. I tend to disagree on the Multiculturalism front however. It does work but only with those who come here are wanting to contribute and check their religious/culture baggage at the door. One thing that annoys the shit out of me is that we are suppose to respect their culture. This is all good and well to some extent providing you respect ours and don't force your bullshit upon us. At the end of the day they are the ones that came here. Thanks for the share psychosis, I must have missed that chasser skit and laughed pretty hard.
  5. Its pretty cheesy but I still enjoy watching it. I love the hacking the gibson with what appears to be an apple classic.
  6. lmfao at "its a fucking tampon, there is nothing manly about it". Ah that clip was so funny because its so true!
  7. I couldn't agree more. For a while now both of the main parties are pretty much identical and it doesn't leave you with a great deal of choice. Especially now days when both parties like to cater for the ultra conservative Christian nutters. Which only really leaves you with the Greens (preference deals with labor), Family first (more Christian nutters), and the Democrats (after the GST I think not). Which leaves you with the sex party or pirate party. I wish the current Government would stop ramming their moral ideologies upon us and get back to the main job at hand and run the bloody country oppose to trying to rule it. lol it always amuses me how when topics like this always turn into the whole this wouldn't happen under the liberal/labor government. Which is utter bullshit each party has tried a similar thing in the past.
  8. Does that include those who voted for other parties that have preference dealings with the labor party? Then again Tony Abbot is a dead set drop kick who is hell bent on us all wearing chastity belts! WTF banning small breats? Well there goes my Asian porn fetish seeing as the vast majority are lacking in that department. I laughed pretty hard at the black listing of female ejaculation and the reasoning behind it. Maybe the EFA can use that Divinyls song I touch myself as an anthem for their no clean feed campaign. BTW did anyone go to the Australia wide protests that were held today? I was planning on going but couldn't get the day off work.

    bye Matt

Thanks for donating your time to the show and producing some informative discussions on Networking and VM's. Your coverage on these subjects helped me out tremendously with my Network studies. All the best for whatever you pursue and do in the future mate.
  10. lol Tell that one to the Australian cricket team. Doesn't Boony hold a record for most drinks consumed on a flight or something. Happy Australia day all, enjoy your public holiday of awesomeness.
  11. Well a guy I went to tafe with works at high school and they received some Win 7 trial dvd that has all the versions from home to Ultimate for both i86 and 64. You install it as a complete reformat and it gives you a month or something as a trial. He also gave me some windows 7 loader which automatically adjusts the registry and what ever else needs to be done so it becomes a genuine Microsoft product. Great thing is I can get all the updates and its completely free of crapware. XD
  12. Correct me if I am wrong but isn't the UAC kind of the same thing as having a Admin and Limited user account. With the idea of utilizing the limited user for basic use and when you wish to install something you use the run as administrator feature. Like what sudo is for linux. Ah yes I have heard about those slot loading dvd drives. I have also seen standard ones that require a lot of messing around just to take out. That said alot of the current dell product have the Hard drive and cd rom drive accessible on the side of the laptop which slides out nice and easy. Totally agree with ya HEX on dell or lenovo. Most corporate environments/educational institutions I have been to generally use Dell optiplex as the desktop work horse and the Lenovo or thinkpad for their roaming users (have seen dell laptops too). I will say from a home user prospective the dell has a nice featureful and easy to use bios, some great diagnostics utilities and if you ever lose the driver cd their website is easy to navigate for locating your stuff. IBM on the other hand can be a bit of a bitch. I had a few ex corporate IBM thinkpads to do a while back and that Trusted platform Module (TPM) gave me the shits as much as locating drivers/enabling the wifi card in bios (never knew you could disable it in there). BTW I am on my mothers compaq presario f500 which I was repairing for 3 hours late last night. Keys stopped working again and it needed an install. Upgraded to Win 7 ultimate.
  13. I have heard pretty much the same thing about the cosmetic difference and that Service Pack 2 for vista corrected most of the previous issue. With that said I much prefer the visual appearance of 7 over vista.
  14. Vista is a resource hog compared to xp and 7. Windows 7 preforms as well if not some what better than windows xp. I would supply a reference but cbf finding the linkage. BTW I work at a laptop store in Aus that is an authorized re-seller of HP products and to be honest I can't even recommend them. I have had x3 Compaq's in the past few years and each one of them have kicked the bucket. Keyboard's often need replacement (and no I am not rough with them) also the pin where the power adapter plugs into often breaks. Granted compaqs are the budget range but I recently switched to a dell inspirion (also budget range) and it has never missed a beat for two years. We also repair other makes and models and we do a fair few Toshiba Satellites, Asus and a fuck load of shitty ACER's. Very rarely do I see a Dell, Sony or IBM thinkpad come into our store for a hardware repair. But this is just my own personal opinion do your research and choose something that suits your needs and budget. I also highly recommend windows 7. If you are moving straight from XP to 7 you will find it a lil annoying to navigate around and customize things at first. Also networking is a little different but google is your friend. p.s: TURN OFF UAC fuck thats annoying! pss: Most new laptops come with a free upgrade to windows 7 home edition or something now days I believe.
  15. lol Well at least the O.P is living up to his/her user name. Surely using google would have yielded a quicker answer to the question. BTW the only difference between the 2 is the NDS lite is made from asbestos and sprayed with lead paint.
  16. +1 for Vako's proxy suggestion, they are great for those huge ass Microsoft updates among other things. Yeap caps do suck immensely but sometimes you need an excuse to go out into the sunlight and not look like a pasty ass twifag. =D Just get yourself a nice high gain antenna, signal booster and mount on your roof. Then jack that sucker into a wireless network card that meets the Back Track Hardware comparability list for both promiscuous mode and packet injection. /problem solved.
  17. ah cool I thought I was gonna have to use something like -i A for all or some sort of wild card like access control lists on cisco gear. Leaving it blank is so much more convenient for a lazy person.. Thanks for the info Psychosis that makes it the second time you have helped me out.,IOU x2 Alcoholic beverages. =D From a system/network admin prospective, how would one detect/mitigate (mitigate without VPNing your ass) ARP poisoning attacks? I know that from command prompt you can arp -a which will display the ARP table and the only notable discrepancy is the MAC address for the gateway. Is this sort of thing detectable on Microsoft ISA, your standard client software firewalls or anything? I also noticed that a few sites use like a mix mode of HTTP and HTTPS. For example Facefart's main page is in HTTP and only kicks on over to HTTPS once a user clicks the sign in button. From the average end user prospect nothing has really changed and even if an educated user noticed that the HTTPS was not shown once signed in to the their online account its a little to late.

    ophcrack

I have no idea how to solve your problem but you should check out Kon-Boott. No need to use rainbow tables and you can enter anything as a valid password. Maybe worth checking out.
  19. I hate to hijack the OP's thread but I have a question of my own in regards to SSL strip on linux. I am yet to download backtrack 4 and was planning on having a fiddle with this as soon as the download is completed. Anyways with the above quoted cli you specify the target ip and the gateway. I was wondering what the command line would be to ARP Spoof all clients on the network instead of a single target address. All so if you do this does this also ARP poison the clients that have joined the network and have just been issued an IP address via DHCP?
  20. +1 to Vako on above comment. I think that comment was more on the taking the piss side of how open source Linux users are a likened to a bunch of communist pigs that are against paying for capitalist Microsoft products.
  21. Only if your dumb enough to protest while standing in front of a moving tank. But I hear that's just the Chinese idea of natural selection, Darwin award anyone? *Que Command & Conquer Generals Chine has been generous voice over*
  22. I aint heard of that vpn provider but you have to ask yourself one thing, do you trust the exit nodes? (sparda mentioned the same thing with the TOR network) Traffic aint encrypted once it hits the vpn server. So if your just web browsing bollocks its fine but if you login to sites over your VPN (even by accident, like you forgot to turn off the VPN) it could be troublesome depending on your situation and use. I personally would rather have my own vpn server that I administrate and over see. However this comes at a cost and can be prohibitive to some. The upside is you can do more on your own Virtual Private server than just host VPN client connections.
  23. I lol'd at gcninja's comment, reminds me of the is your son a hacker thing on youtube. the stupidity of this plan was previously discussed in this thread and if your an Aussie it has been heavily discussed on whingepool, whoops I mean whirlpool. =P Even if this year is an election year I doubt the people opposed to the filter is large enough to do anything about it. The problem is the government accuses that anyone against the filter hates children or wears a pedo bear suit. The techno dyslexic Australian population don't understand that technology wise its a waste of time and money to implement not to mention the actual policy of banned content is rather vague and flimsy at best. Also worth noting that the above dentist and others that were blocked by the content filter were purely accidental. I also heard of a breast cancer charity that ended up in the false positive category. lol the irony is I just set up a home linux server a few weeks back in preparation to bypass my educational institutions content filtering so I can get some hak5 love on during class. Now the government are filtering my ass too.
  24. Blocked sites were posted on wiki leaks. Mind you that list is over a year old and new blocked content has surely been added since. +1 VPN on a over seas VPS. Honestly ubuntu linux or windows is not really a big deal, both are pretty easy to setup client and server wise. However open VPN on nix can be a sod if you have no idea what you are getting yourself into. Torrents are not filtered for now so you need not worry about encrypting torrent traffic unless you are worried about receiving one of those you have been naughty letters from your isp. Which is rare. My ISP started doing this a few months ago and I am yet to receive one.
  25. I am gonna sound like a lazy fat heffa lump here but the last thing I wanna do is play games by moving around looking like a retard. The tech is awesome and looks more promising than the wii's implementation but I rather sit on my ass after being on me feet all day and play with an object that is physically in my hand. With that said I could see how it would be fun for those alcohol fueled gamer parties on the weekend.
