  1. Tada: http://tinyurl.com/6g6c78
  2. Windows key + L to lock. About an extra 1 second effort, is it really worth the hastle of setting up the software for that?
  3. There's been reports of FBI and other 3 lettered agencies setting up honeypots over Tor networks to catch users breaking the law. I'd recommend VPN or even better a SSH tunnel.
  4. I used GIMP & thanks for the (not so) constructive criticism.
  5. I saw.. Perhaps it's my retardation, but I can't see where to post in that section - if you're referring to the Wiki link that is.
  6. I wasn't sure where to post this, So I'll just leave it here..... http://janslow.info/karma_hak5.jpg /James
  7. I just remembered this when I came to read the dailies on the Hak5 forum.. I dreamed last night that my next door neighbor, Matt, Darren, Shannon and someone I don't know all came to my dorm room, danced around in a circle and then waved at me through the window. I think that I need to see a doctor....... Post some of your crazy dreams here, if you can remember them! /out
  8. Check out Sygate Personal Firewall, it's free and effective for managing which apps have inbound/outbound network access. Also the amount of system resources it uses are tiny, un-noticeable. Aside from a SW firewall you should have a HW firewall in your router to plain stop all inbound connections.
  9. First ever was Slax, however that was just out of curiosity to find out 'what linux was'. My first real use of a linux OS was Ubuntu.
  10. Perhaps this is a shot in the dark and a little off the topic but why Apache services on a Win server? Isn't that kind of what IIS is built for? I know there will be 'those' people that will flame me for speaking slightly towards the favor of Microsoft, It's pretty un-fair to say IIS is un-secure or un-reliable if properly configured. Perhaps it's just me but it seems silly to be using 3rd party software when perfectly adequate SW is built into the OS.
  11. It's the strangest thing. I've been using computers seriously for about 4 years now, for the first 3 years I stuck to XP pretty much by the by. I didn't change and didn't want to change OS'es. I used the same computer for about 1.5 years at a time and was very happy with this. However it seems in the last 6-12 months I really can't get happy with an OS. I keep having to change the OS i'm running on my laptop and destop. Right now I have Win XP on my desktop and OS X on my laptop however I have the ultra-urge to swap my laptop to a Linux-based OS. I know that i'll shortly get annoyed with the Linux-based OS and want to change to Windows for programming in VB .net, maybe back to OS X and maybe around to Vista. Does anyone else have this problem? I can't seem to keep happy with one OS for more than a week or so at most!
  12. Yeah, I bet everything works great... except flash... and java... Which means you can't view the Episodes on it, which kind of voids the point of visiting the website, doesn't it?
  13. You get a 9mm beretta while Sgt.Greggs over there gets a 50'cal desert eagle? All modern western police forces use the 9mm as a standard sidearm, Beretta & Glock for the US police and the Sig 226/7 for the British armed police. The idea being a somewhat less-than-lethal weapon as the average human can survive a shot from a 9mm handgun, whereas a shot from a 45 or 50cal would mean certain death. Size doesn't matter if the calibre of the round is the same ;) Besides, in the US you can just buy your own 45 to carry around xD
  14. Computer Sciences are computer sciences, not hacking. It's learning about how computers work, not how to hack them. You should look for an Ethical Hacking course for White Hat Hacking or do a Computing course and learn Hacking in your spare time. You'll never get a legit job as a 'White hat hacker', perhaps as a Security Analyst but only if you're extremely good (and I mean EXTREMELY good) that's going to be difficult when you could easily drift into being a SW dev with much less effort. Being in IT is different for every job, personally I'm working part-time in an IT shop while studying and I work 7 hour days, almost always on my feet talking to people in the store. However I have a friend that works as a Tech and he just sits at a desk on RDC all day- so it depends on the organization. Try to learn some basic languages if you have the spare time, start with VB .net.
  15. Probably a bad idea to go to your sysadmin to tell them that you know their admin login credentials. If you'd read the ever-growing 'Schoolkid locked up for haxxing' threads that keep popping up you'd know this. Just create a batch file in win .. "shutdown -s -f -t 01" and set it to auto-open using task scheduler as Sparda said.
  16. I'm in agreement with Vako on this one, I jumped into Server 2003 way before I even started looking at .nix simply because it's surprising how much of industry uses Win based services & apps on their networks. Most corporate networks are using MS Exchange for their e-mail systems & Win VPN for remote file sharing. To be completely honest, it's my opinion that .nix is great.. for web hosting. @Pentesting .. I tend to read up various websites and I've watched a fair few vids on pen testing but at the end of the day unless, as Vako said you're "the best" it's not going to look good on your resume or help you get a job compared to experience or knowledge on practical topics. amagad suzz0r! rite?
  17. I'm pretty sure it's legal to make one backup, but not to download other copies of the game.
