  1. Possible, however the web at procureweb.ac.uk reports 'Does not allow its directory to be listed' so, I'd imagine it's a virtual domain hosted by apple for searching up IPs based on Universities (Its not an actual Uni website). So the apple Uni lookup IP service is running on MS servers.
  2. I was browsing the Apple UK Store earlier today and came across this when attempting to access the University store from outside of my Universities web system. Turns out, Apple is using Microsoft server to host its website? Worrying...
  3. As menitoned above it depends what you count as a 'language', Probably HTML/CSS/VB.. however I personally wouldn't count HTML/CSS as a language but more as a script type... or sth.
  4. lolz lolz lolz lolz lolz The heartache....
  5. He fooled you with desktop icons including Cain, Recycle bin and some .dll's? ..

  7. Hi all, I am looking for a software firewall that is compatible with Windows Vista. My only requirements are that the firewall should be able to monitor applications internet access (In terms of allow/block/query) and it should not be a 'full feature' package (Should be standalone - not include AV/A-Spyware). Ideally the firewall will have low system resource useage. I have looked around google, with few reliable results. I'm looking for personal experiences and recommendations :) Comments or queries are welcome, of course. Thanks
  8. Hi all, thanks for reading this topic. I'm looking for a quick to deploy portable HTTP server that can be stored on a flash drive and does not require any install. I.e. the portable part. I'm aware of the fact that google would yield some results, but I'm looking for personal choices and recommendations to get the best software avaliable for my situation. The use of the application would be to allow for testing of firewall systems and network traffic routing without the need to install the software on each PC I test on. Any comments, queries or of course solutions are most welcomed. Thanks
  9. I watched Swordfish last night, I have to say that while most (if not all) of the Tech is rubbish the acting and storyline is very impressive.
  10. Not entirely sure of the reason, but if you use a boot loader you can manually choose the boot OS. http://www.gnu.org/software/grub/
  11. Blank desktop for my Macbook :)
  12. Visit a website such as http://croggesserver.com for information on how to join a massive Warcraft private server. Basically you download a version of the client and play on a cracked server.

    bandwith

Bandwidth limitations are in place for a number of reasons: You get what you pay for (No over-use) The company can regulate what they use and what customers use Bandwidth costs money, so the more you use, the more you pay
  15. Often the solution to a problem is to solve it by removing the problem itself. If you remove the need to share with Ethernet over mains you remove the problem.
  16. Have you considered ethernet over mains to allow for the connection of a router without the need for moving ethernet cabling? Basically you use your mains electricity as a counduit for ethernet traffic. http://www.lordpercy.com/solwise_homeplug_..._over_mains.htm
  17. I've had the same problem when trying to share a 3G connection between a network via Ad-hoc wireless sharing. Check to ensure the internet host (ad-hoc host) is set to share the interent with the correct network component. Go to Network connections and right click -> Properties on the network component recieving the net connection -on the MCE (In this case my T-mobile 3G modem). Go to the sharing tab and you should have a setup like this: Make sure that the correct component is getting access to the net.

    linux question

Ubuntu is one of the more popular distributions of the Linux kernel, it's official installation guide can be found here. However, as Sparda mentioned the problem may be a faulty component, probably a CD/DVD drive.

    rebooting

Stopped where? Could you give a little more info please? Sounds like you've not correctly burned the Ubuntu ISO to a disk and it's not booting to the disk, then looking for the next avaliable boot drive (your dud HD) and crashing there. Ensure you're using an app like Nero to burn the Ubuntu ISO as an **Image disk**. Make sure you're not just burning the ISO directly onto the disk. It needs to be burned as an ISO (Nero extracts the ISO and then places the files onto the CD).
  20. So put a BIOS password on and disable boot selection, disabling the CD drive as a boot option. However, I doubt that the users we're talking about will be packing live CDs.
  21. Setup a domain with a windows server, restrict access to internet options, control panel options, etc etc. Setup Privoxy on the server and route all internet traffic through the proxy via Internet options. Then you can just view Privoxy logs for web pages visited, when etc. The user also cant change the fact that internet traffic is routed via the proxy as they have no access to IE options (Locked down via domain user controllers). It's complex, but possibly the best method :P

    linux live cd

As mentioned above, Ubuntu or it's brother OS Kubuntu is probably your best bet. If downloading is a problem you can order a CD with the operaitng system on, but that may take a few weeks (They ship them for free!).
  23. Get a backtrack live CD and carry it with you, it's as simple as that ;)
