  1. Mine on here was a name... I don't use it for anything else. I always use crappy passwords for forums, as I tend to visit them from more than one location - often public. I know there are a few good solutions out there, I'm just very lazy. I don't even know what my demonoid account password is, it's the one that was sent to me. I keep meaning to change it.
  2. I don't really have any loyalty, I buy from the cheapest. Some UK stores: http://www.overclockers.co.uk http://www.cablestar.co.uk http://www.ebuyer.com http://www.lambda-tek.com http://www.dabs.com
  3. I think it has changed, but for the worse? I don't know. I have been around since the first season. Though I didn't and still don't have any input into the past community projects. So I don't miss that part, as I never was part of it, I barely even look at these forums. As far as the show, there are things I miss, but then there are some pretty good additions. As far as I'm aware there are some pretty hard core members of the community that felt pretty poorly treated, so I think they generally feel the show has taken some bad turns. My evolvement went no further than sending $10 for stickers and downloading the shows. And I'm still happy to check in from time to time and watch the show. This is just going to become like Diggnation, look at some of the threads on that. Anyway, I'd still call myself a fan but did prefer the first couple seasons. But I do agree with Vako, I was in a very different place in my life, for one I was a student. So dosing around watching Hak5 drinking was the norm, it's not now and that doesn't reflect on the show. What I'm saying is, even though I don't download every show like I used to, that's not really down to the show.
  4. I feel old saying this, even though I'm far from it. What is the fucking point? I've now stopped pirating software, have done for a while. Trials are there for a reason. If you wouldn't pay for it, don't use it. Support the free ones, keep them alive. Or just pay for it, I quite like Kaspersky, and the basic AV isn't expensive, nor is the internet security. This is software I should point out... :(
  5. If I have this right, I can't help but think what an inefficient use of 100mb. It's kind of like a greatest hits album, just host the links. That way people can pick and choose what they need/want. Maybe I'm wrong...
  6. I'm not really active on any. I will go through stages of posting on certain ones. I move around a lot, so can go months and forget about ones I may have joined. So I usually don't join, unless I wanted to say something. In saying that I read quite a few maybe once or twice, get what I need and never go back. I've posted on 3 this past couple weeks.
  7. I may been reading it wrong, but are you saying Matt got gout, and gave birth to a mutated fetus? If not I don't understand what happened...
  8. That's ace. I'll have to get one of them. I've never been one for buying computer related slogan t-shirts. Though I made my own T-shirt for charity, it was meant more as a piss take to geeks, not meant to be funny as such, just a different take. But it had the usual MaCmillan Cancer Support on the back with, cout<<"Hello world, we care too!"<<endl; On the front, we all had to do something and I was the only one interested in computers.
  9. I must admit I do like these. It's strange how after years of using something you like going back to what you had, but at the time you can't wait to upgrade. Kinda like games consoles or even cars. In saying this, get to fuck if you think I'm gonna spend that kind of money. Maybe they do a good service, but I'd rather spend half the cash on a modern keyboard. Sorry I realise this isn't really related. Oh and if you're someone who buys one of these - I know Matt was liking them - send us some cash while you're at it, seeming you like to throw money away. Rip off bastards.
  10. Kind of, liked snaked around from the back of the case. Case would be head on, then with maybe smoke coming from them. Like a smoking gun, I did think about one being ethernet and other being firewire; but i think 1 or 2 rj45 would be better suited. Maybe fire coming from one destroying something, slight horns coming from top of case. Haven't thought too much about colours. Will have a play around at some point.
  11. I may have a go then, I was thinking on the lines of having ethernet cables coming from the back... Well it looks good in my head, if I get some time I'll have a shot.
  12. Some sketches in here, along with some classic Wess action. http://www.hak5.org/switch
  13. Depends on what your budget is, if you're on a tight one LCD would be best. Cheapo plasmas look gash. But there are many LCDs offering 100-120hz. I would go into the store ans see which you like the best, it's your opinion that counts.
  14. I had a T41, great little thing. Had to replace just about everything on it, but still.
  15. My disc is somewhere but couldn't be arsed searching for it, so I borrowed a copy from some chap who calls himself a pirate, and lives on a bay.
  16. I agree with some with what has been said, but I think a GTX 280 is overkill for a 19" monitor. I would at least bring it down to the 260 if you want to stay with Nvidia. I would go for at least the 4GB RAM, don't bother putting in 2, take advantage of DDRII being cheap. The Antec 300 was mentioned, that's a good cheap case, it's very simple but the two fans do a good job of cooling. But are pretty loud on the high settings. I built a system in one of them not too long ago. The P5QL Pro was mentioned, I prefer the P5QL-E for a P43 based board. You went for an Nforce chipset, which has been getting some bad press, but I've ran them in the past and they do a pretty good job. I think the selection you posted is pretty good, just maybe tweak it to get 4GB RAM. The board you mentioned is more thant say the P5QL Pro and the E, so you could maybe switch to one of them and get the 4GB RAM. I'm basing this on the prices over here, I assume they're about the same in relation.
  17. Happy birthday Gramps... Sorry I have no cake.
  18. Old thread but hey... I was looking around Uni's the other day, as I'm thinking about going back. I started Computing for Intelligent Systems back in 2005; there were not enough people so they killed the course off... But like said all that separated me from someone doing Graphics and Animation was maybe 2 modules. My main lecturer was a mathematician, openly admitting he had no interest in computers, and had his last PC for 6 years. The course was also largely based around Java. Anyway, I noticed this as I found it funny actually having hack in the title BSc (Hons) Ethical Hacking & Countermeasures, so I'm sure there are similar courses around the world, this is what the course covers: What you study Stage 1 Computer hardware and networking; computer programming; basic computer hacking ethics. Stage 2 Further study of computers and networks and ethical hacking. Stage 3 Computer networking; Linux Networks; Project Management & Team Working; Ethical Computer Hacking; Professional Development. Stage 4 Network Management; Mobile Phone Technology; Penetration Testing; Forensic Computing; Industrial Group Project. My little advice would be to look at what job you realistically think you would like to do, then visit a few job sites, or companies like oil or something. Just so you can see what they require, then look what course best suits you. Or rather their needs. They usually list something, even if it is just lotus notes
  19. There's rarely anyone in there when I am. But works, and you don't have to buy it.
  20. That's from their site, so not gonna work for everyone.
  21. It must have been costing them a fortune. Like said I use adblock, and I used to download a shit load from them. I best get in there sharpish before thursday.
  22. @someoneE1se cheers, been saving that 8) @voteforbush, that happens to be one of the worst ones to have, because no one is quite sure what error message 0020 means. I've heard people say the motherboard is bent, so you could check that. Others say it's overheating, but I don't think it is as simple as that. Many with 0020 are dead, maybe you can fix it and let us know what you did.
  23. You're meant to have 3 years now. Mind was void before it died. If you hold the sync button and press the eject button 4 times, this will give you a code which can give you the answer to your problem. Or at least point you in the direction. When you say you have the new one, do you mean the ones with 2 heatsinks for the GPU? Did you overheat the console after removing the x clamps? What I have found works; change the clamps to the bolts, cook the thing, then tighten the bolts when it is hot. Don't do it too much though, as you don't want to bend the motherboard. Stand to cool and serve. There is the chance it's proper fucked mind you. If everything fails all you need is a hammer and a packet of condoms, if smacking it doesn’t fix it, fuck it...
