Can you normally access the internet on your ubuntu box? It might be something as simple as not having the default gateway set on the linux machine. Open up a terminal and type in route. If it's not there - route add default gw 192.168.1.1 netmask 255.255.255.0. Assuming you're on that subnet.

I've had better overclocking with Intel, but that doesn't mean much. To answer the questions, probably AMD. But Intel chips with Virtualization seem to be more common on notebooks. So this is why I seem to be with Intel more these days...

You're correct, well at least I think you are. But at the same time, you can't ignore feedback. My comments about the presenters are/were not malicious. I should point out that the Snubs comment was my fault as was not meant in a bad way. I now know it's Shannon. I did before it was just my memory, I didn't mean she is unmemorable. Yeah I agree. That's why I said it was like diggnation, these threads are fairly common and I tried to emphasize this with a request which will never happen. The Chris Pirillo comment was meant in respects to what they have done, you say he attracts noobs, but he certainly is fairly popular for what he offers. He's very energetic, and quite outspoken in his views, but still stays within his safety barrier. I don't visit his IRC, I just know who he is, and some of the sites he controls. It wasn't meant in the fact their content was the same, or any real disrespect to Darren. I could have maybe used Kevin Rose, but that would have been a compliment and not fitting.

I still maintain budget is a major factor. If I were to build my Ultimate Gaming Machine 8.1, it would probably be Intel/Nvidia. Although I think the more common price bands are where AMD are aiming for. Like said the Phenom 2 is pretty damn good for the money, but if your budget is larger, the i7 would be the choice of champions. Although I've recently built a couple systems with Intel CPU, with ATI graphics. I was always an Nvidia man, but ATI cards are nice right now. It's interesting you say AMD takes more power, I was lead to believe ATI cards take less power than Nvidia. Maybe I am wrong, but some of the requirements from Nvidia are insane. So building a Intel/Nvidia would probably draw no less power than a AMD based set up if not more. Even if intel CPUs need less juice the Nvidia cards more than make up for it!

Did anyone play Kings of Chaos or Mobster Boss? Did you play any MMORPGs? If so what and what did you like? I played the two above and lost contact with people from both. Linux is great and I love it, but if you want a free solution, being free isn't something you should be taking into consideration. On a side note, as for office. To me it's like photoshop V gimp. Photoshop is better and more features, and I'd choose it over the two. But gimp/open office does enough for the average user.

I had the unfortunate displeasure of working in PC world whilst being a student. Most of the people who use computers on a daily basis are morons, okay that's not nice and not truel but still. I would get questions like "Can my epson printer used recycled paper?" Yet, they would still know Intel, they would be put off by brands like Asus. Intel has good marketing, notebooks which sell far more than desktops reflect this. Acer are one of the brands that sell similar laptops with both AMD and Intel. Even when the AMD is cheaper people would choose Intel. I'd be more interested in people buying the CPU itself, and at what price point. I.E. @ $155 who sells more, AMD or intel etc etc. Depending on what budget you gave me, my answer would be different.

Linux Mint has been getting quite popular, so thought I would have a look. I think it is pretty good, if you've never used linux it should help out quite a lot.
