  1. Thanks for the advice i'll give it a shot. I wonder if it's a bum driver or something. Thanks again i'll make sure to give it a go.
  2. The only Anti-Virus i've used in the past 3-4 years has been Avast and I love it. I have never had an issue with it and it updates everyday. If I happen to navigate to a site that has some shady stuff on it Avast comes up fast and lets me know that I should abort the connection. Avast is probably one of the better AV's out there in my opinion.
  3. Looks like me and Foo have the same wallpaper lol.
  4. Hi everyone I just installed Backtrack4 pre final on my Dell Inspiron laptop and enjoying it so far. I'm still kinda of new with Linux so after looking on google for help and not finding the answer I assume this would be the next best place. I noticed that there wasn't any GUI application to connect to wireless networks so I decided that the terminal was fine. This is what I run to connect ifconfig wlan0 up iwconfig wlan0 essid "ESSIDHERE" iwconfig wlan0 key <KEY HERE> iwconfig wlan0 key open dhcpcd wlan0 Now what happens is that it will connect to my wireless router with out a problem and I can surf the web, go to google and ping without a problem. But for some reason after a few minutes the connection just seems to drop. I'm not sure why it's doing that, at first I thought it was one of the commands that I was running but after looking at them again it didn't look like they were wrong (I could be wrong though seeing as how I'm still a linux noob). I don't know if this is of any importance but i'm also able to put the wireless card into monitor mode with Airmon-ng and I can pretty much use all those tools but I can't seem to just stay connected to a wireless network. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've been looking on the internet for a few days now and haven't found much help. Thanks again in advance for any help anyone can offer. If anyone needs more info just ask and I'll provide with anything I can. *I posted this on the Backtrack forums but I guess it won't show until a moderator approves it. But since I know there are so many smart people on this forums I hope someone can offer up some advice :)
  5. I was just playing with the pre final on my Dell inspiron 6400 and noticed I can't stay connected for more than 2 minutes on my wireless. Anyone else having this issue?
  6. I'm playing with BT4 pre-final and it's pretty cool. I'm actually running in VirtualBox so I'm not doing any of the wireless stuff but it's got some cool stuff going on.
  7. Yea I usually just do $ ifconfig eth0 up $ dhclient I'm just going to wait until the final is out then I check it again. I've had some issues running it on my laptop as well but I think that's more to do with the hardware of my laptop though.
  8. I have the BT4 VMware and there are a few things that didn't work off the bat... like network connections. But other than that it seems ok.
  9. I was having this issue and a work around I found was just switching it to classic desktop mode and the lag is gone. I just didn't feel like messing with the kernel lol.
  10. I use Demonoid from time to time, it's ok. I usually use other sites like BT junkie if I just want to look for stuff. Torrent sites are all over the place.
  11. I wonder if they have found a way to get out of the jail time already.
  12. This is interesting, I wonder how the legal stuff is going to work out then. I herd they had come up with some kind of new VPN P2P tech that was supposed to make it hyper safe to transfer files around without being caught. This is going to be a very interesting event. I can't wait to see how this unfolds.
  13. Journey is the greatest band to ever grace this earth.
  14. I get the ALL the time. If it's a cute girl I give her my cell and tell her to call me when she gets home and I can try to help. If it's anyone else I pretend I just read from a script.
  15. Ok so today was not really an desktop support issues but it kinda falls in the category of weird IT related crap. http://img230.imageshack.us/i/photosub.jpg/ That was my setup this morning in the George Washington Bus Terminal in Washington Heights NYC. We have an event going on there monday morning and they wanted DSL installed so I was there this morning with that laptop and a netbook walking around the terminal to see how far the Wireless goes...Needless to say I was stopped by 4 Police officers who thought I was a terrorist. They all assumed after I spoke with them that I worked with Verizon (and I don't).
  16. you can get them for the pirate bay but they arent that many seeders
  17. This I don't mind, I actually think this is a good thing because with this you aren't forcing anyone to do anything. But when it comes to actually implementing some kind of organized attack, that where I would stop,
  18. Usually when replacing a CPU best practice is to put a dap of thermal grease or past between the heatsink and the cpu. It helps prevent overheating, and most new heat sinks come with some already applied in most cases.
  19. Really? I'm in NYC and I get great service. I have yet to go off the 3g network. The only time I hear people complain about the receptions and service quality in NY is when they go to Long Island or deep into queens...but who wants to go that far in anyways lol.
  20. Yea I broke down and got one as well. Don't know if it was worth it standing in line on a hot friday afternoon in the middle of 5th Avenue but so far the phone seems pretty cool.
  21. I usually get what I pay for when I pay for Microsoft products. The last thing I paid for was XP and I've never really had any issues with it. I didn't pay for vista and I used it for like a month on my home pc. Windows7 is going to be the next thing that i'll pay for out of pocket and I think it's going to be worth the money. What has always bothered me about apple is that they control what hardware you can use with their OS, which in turn gives them complete control of the pricing. If they had other companies make hardware and the prices were competitive I'd be much more inclined to purchase apple products...aside from the Iphone.
  22. I think it's part of the whole underground hacker thing to want to team up and overthrow some nation or to hack their Gibsons and stuff but I don't think hackers uniting to fight a war that they have nothing to do with is cool. If Iranian hackers wanna do that's cool too. Even if they were to ask for help that's fine as well, but I don't know. If I were Iran and see hackers from other nations getting involved in my countries affairs I would be really angry. And I don't think we want to see Iran angry. Just my 2cents.
  23. I don't think is a good thing to hack a government website of any country. It's their election, and their country. Why do we have the right to interfere.
