  1. I herd that model has some weird DRM that doesn't let you move certain files around. I hear it has to do with the software that western digital packs it with. It also worries me that there are two drives in there. I would rather use a raid set up like cooper mentioned.
  2. Hey all, This is the most amazing wallpaper I have ever seen. I need this lol. Can anyone throw up a link? I'm the only linux lover here at my job and this is a good way to stick it to my other windows loving co-workers. I would really appreciate it if someone linked the image. Thanks.
  3. we are using Windows Server 2003. The thing is for some reason our power tripped one of the brakers in my office and it happened to turn the mail server off. So another admin that I work with wanted to find a solution to alert everyone on the network so we aren't bothered with questions while we are trying to fix the issue. I haven't found anything on google that i'm looking for so I know this is a great place to ask for advice. I appreciate the quick responses. Hopefully I can find something, it's not urgent but the sooner the better. I just don't want to be bothered to much when we have a issue with one of our servers or something. Thanks for your help guys. Helpful as always.
  4. something like this happened to me recently. the psu on my gaming machine recently died. It was really scary becuase there was alot of smoke coming out of it. For some reason I was sure that it had blown everything in the machine. But it didn't thankfully. But yea when a psu goes it's really one of the more scary failures out there.
  5. Hey guys, I'm looking for a piece of software that will let me send out a message to everyone on my domain that isn't based on windows messenger. At my company we have is disabled by default due to it's insecurities. If you guys know of any software that does this it would be a great help. I'm looking into this in case our mail servers ever go down, we can let everyone know whats happening. Thanks in advance.
  6. I had this problem A LONG TIME AGO lol. So I don't remember all the steps but I know it's stupid proof because I remember I could do it lol. Go download Super Grub Disk. It's a boot cd that's made to fix problems with grub in a dual boot machine. Try it let me know what you think.
  7. which oddly enough beryl adds to linux... lol
  8. gotta love aero ^_^ It's ok, I prefer Beryl on my Ubuntu Laptop and my Ubuntu desktop at work. But aero is ok too lol.
  9. Well, it's seems VaKo was right, I finally recived my copy of vista in the mail yesterday and it seems to run without a hitch. All my apps and drivers work just fine and even my gaming hasn't slowed down. Below is a pic of it doing it's some what uber slice bread function:
  10. Good to know, thanks VaKo. I was just wondering because I don't want to have to reformat my drive, put vista on and then find out that I can't run it well. I did some of those online tests and they tell me I pass, then they tell me I fail. So i'm like what the hell am I supposed to do now. I guess I'll order my OEM copy of home premium and let vista take over my pc. god help me lol.
  11. Sup guys, just got a question for ya. I know alot of people are talking about how you need a major pc upgrade to run vista with aero turned on. I wanted to know if you guys thought my pc would run it the way it is before I install anything. If anyone has the same sort of setup let me know. And if i need to improve any component feel free to let me know. AMD 64 3000+ 1GB RAM ASUS MOBO (can't remember the model but it's a sli premium) Geforce 7900GT 320GB hard drive I know I can probably up the ram to at least 2GB. but do i really need to. Let me know what ya'll think.
  12. i don't know why anyone would want to make there linux distro look like windows. Your degrading your os. Besides, the only reason i would see someone doing that is because they don't know how to use linux and a windows skin in imperative.
  13. I really don't know, thats why I posted the thread. I think it would be good for me to slap some kind of linux distro on it like debian just so I can learn more. But I also what to put the thing to use. It's really heavy and i'm not going to carry that home for nothing. Carrying crap like that on the subway in NYC isn't fun during rush hour.
  14. You can convince your girlfriend to have a threesome with a shemale midget and a goat while taking golden shower? If not how is she possibly an adequate substitute for porn? Shemale midget? thats a scary thought dude. And thats some gross kinda pr0n you be looking at.
  15. Ok guys, I posted something like this a while ago about different server os's that were out there. Right after I posted that my boss told me that I can take home one of the older Compaq Proliant servers that were being decommissioned. It use to run out intranet, but I don't think i'm really going to be running a intranet at home. What I wanna know is what do you guys suggest? I was thinking mabe smoothwall, but I wanna hear what the community has to say. I'll give some more specs on the machine. They gave me 6 unused 18.3GB drives I'm not sure which, but I was told that it has the highest end P3 processor in there. It has i believe 1GB or RAM. And is currently running Windows Server 2000. I Think i'm going to be putting Debian on there. But any ideas on what I can use this thing for would be great. Thanks in Advance!

  17. It doesn't always have to be porn. It can be anything that you consider sensitive information. Some stuff just needs to be made secure. you never know who might be snooping around your pc while your not home.
  18. I herd to get your CCIE certification you have to take an all day lab and it's supposed to be one hell of a test. I don't know of anyone personally who has that certification. And I know alot of people in the IT business.
  19. Well, when it comes to keeping my personal files on my PC secret, I make sure that the basic stuff is in place. 1) Since my PC is always on even when I'm at work I make sure that have have password protect on. So as soon and my screen saver comes on it will ask for a password when you move the mouse. I think this is good if you have alot of people in your room contently, or you have a family that likes to get into your business. 2) Never keep your really important files on your internal or non-removable Hard Drive. This is a big rule for me. I keep all important personal files on a thumb stick that I carry with me and any other info that I would need I keep on a removable Hard Drive that I keep either in a secret spot or at a friends house who isn't tech savvy cause I wouldn't want him reading it either. Of course you can alway give them the Hard Drive and not the USB cable lol. 3)Like some other people have mentioned, truecrypt is also another great alternative. I have been using it for about a month and it's a really great way to keep your private files hidden. I actually use it at work and have my boss using it on his machine as well. There are also other steps you can take to make sure that your files are kept hidden. I'm going to try what m0u53 said with making the files look like a control panel but that just seems like too much work especially if your like me and need to get to those files every 5 minutes. Unless its pr0n in which you need to get to it like ever 10 minutes lol j/k. But Give this stuff a try and you should be one step closer to being more secure.
  20. well, thats not entirely true, I have a friend that makes just a little more than 70k a year and he's MCSE and CCNA certified. It's all about who you know and how much experience you have. That has been my experience at least.
  21. All wess wanted to do was show us how to make rounded IDE cables. But Darren had to put in some weird PCI card and that is when all hell broke loose. lol. But it's ok darren, you showed that evil server who was boss in the end...kind of.
  22. I like it, If you can make that into a evil looking wallpaper that would be awesome.
