  1. im not an expert but i believe that one of the creative commons variations does what you want. it requires that all original files you include must be included in any subsequent releases and any creation made from your code must be available under the same license as your own.
  2. hmmmmmmm this may be too advanced or too simple depending on how you look at it. duration: 7 days again language: any challange: make a program that will take any number of images and string them together into an animated gif. the winner will be determined by 1: cross platform, 2: features(selecting time delay and such), and 3: well written and commented code that would allow a complete noob to understand how it works. i thought this would be a good idea(actually kaizens avatar is to blame) since it shouldnt be a complicated endeavor and shouldnt be too time consuming. and the code could be archived somewhere to help noobs in their respective language
  3. http://ocw.mit.edu/OcwWeb/Electrical-Engin...ourse/index.htm how many funny things can you find on that page? i think the best is the fact that its a programming class yet they offer help on extracting files from a zip archive
  4. i declare kaizen the winner lmao. you guys made good txt games but i'd say that kaizen had the more convoluted code.
  5. same here lol. im a nerd on a budget so what i can find for free i take for free lol
  6. c++ or c# c++ because if you ever decide to use a different platform such as linux you will be able to use the same language c# because for windows applications its quickly becoming an industry standard.
  7. forgot to post my list lol. edited first post and here it is again program------substitute bitcomet------ktorrent gateway webcam software-------cheese the kmplayer------vlc winamp-----amarok or xmms2 with various frontends photoshop cs3-----the gimp hydraIRC-------xchat with the gnome irc frontend still need a good vixy.net substitute.
  8. we are getting way off topic. i use wine but it doesnt have full compatibility.. im fine with how things are now.
  9. windows has a lot of programs that linux doesn't. a lot of the people here at least dual boot linux. there is a substitute for pretty much all windows native programs. so what programs do you guys use to substitute the windows native programs you used. i use program------substitute bitcomet------ktorrent gateway webcam software-------cheese the kmplayer------vlc winamp-----amarok or xmms2 with various frontends photoshop cs3-----the gimp hydraIRC-------xchat with the gnome irc frontend thats it so far no wine programs please. just the substitute programs. if you can use the same program in linux that you do windows its not exactly a substitute now is it?
  10. as a windows replacement im using ubuntu. but im a gamer. windows is pretty much a necessity at this point
  11. this came to me when i accidentally hit the windows key on my laptop. did nothing obviously since im using ubuntu studio. but what im wondering is can i bind that key and make it do something i want? id like to have one of them open the terminal. just to simplify things and so i can remove the terminal icon from my toolbar
  12. to be honest ive heard that the vista disc has tools to repair bad partitioning. thing is i havent tried it yet. im very content with vista and what little i need windows ill use xp. which i have only used for music so far.
  13. the ones ive heard about most are red hat, cent os, fedora, and arch. and mint i dual booted ubuntu studio at first. now my vista is screwed up and im not even attempting to fix it lol. the partition works just fine for storage so i just throw my files there. i dont bother with windows anymore. i like ubuntu studio because im into image and audio editing/production. and since ubuntu studio does have video editing software im probably going to get into video production too. there are different flavors of ubuntu and its generally considered the easiest to install. if you want to see what ubuntu is like just burn a copy of the standard ubuntu to a cd. it will let you use it as a live cd before installing. ubuntu studio on the other hand requires a dvd and does not function as a live distro before installation. i will say this. if you want to keep your windows install then be careful while partitioning your drive. i screwed that up accidentally(no errors or anything during the partitioning. theres just some things you shouldnt do) and now i cant boot into windows. all the files are still safe though and the partition functions as a nice place to store unused data such as a hak5 video archive
  14. you could get all complicated and make a irc client that, like xfire, works seamlessly in pc games
  15. that crash and die guy needs to chill out. ive been thinking about making my own live distro. just so i can learn a bit about it.
  16. playing neopets. gonna make a shitload of ingame cash and sell it somewhere lol
  17. after much effort i finally got flickrfs to work for me. now maybe i can automate the process of uploading my screenshots to flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/31491456@N06/3006587019/ ^current desktop. once i get a lil inspiration it will probably change edit: here is mine. inspiration obviously came from the above wallpaper if you want the wallpaper you can get it from the dA page http://jkm199.deviantart.com/art/Ubuntu-Faerie-102839075
  18. i agree that someone should have to work for what they have but at a certain level of wealth an average person doesnt do a damn thing to make the money they get. middle and lower class people work their asses off to make what little they do. not everyone is uneducated either.
  19. ubuntu studio FTMFW!!!! my first linux experience: hal91 my first real linux use: knoppix live cd my first linux install: ubuntu studio which is also my main os now
  20. as the topic title says. what was the first linux distro you had any experience with? personally mine was hal91 http://chris.silmor.de/hal91/ its cause i was a kid(prolly 12 or so. maybe a bit older) and i was impatient so i wanted something i could download and use immediately. and the fact i didnt have my own system to work with was also a huge factor. so i picked a linux distro so small that it fit on a floppy disk. couldnt do much with it since i only knew batch up to that point. but after getting used to it i did have fun with it at school lol
  21. that does help quite a lot lol. right now im just interested in, as you said, cracking the hash out of my computer lol. just a lil fun for now. but ive been wanting to look into pen testing for a while. perhaps this will be a good start :) if nothing else comes from this ill at least make a small guide to setting up a legal pen testing environment for those with a spare machine
  22. hmmm how should i put this without sounding as noobish as i really am. im trying to play a game of "pwn this box" by myself using my old laptop as the box. so to answer your question. neither
  23. sorry for double post. just a quick more important update. the contest is extended until further notice. i need to get in touch with the admin of the bbs before i can actually give the prize. oh and the prize right now is about 428mil. i make about 20mil per day it seems. remember. my entire bank account goes to the winner which could be anywhere from 428mil to 999,999,999 (assuming thats the max) by the end of the contest
